Chapter 19

Sam
I stand there and watch my father make out with his receptionist.
Of all women did it have to be the receptionist?
I'm not too shocked. Like I said, it's believable. I always had this gut feeling about this.
I put on a calm expression and take a seat. After a few minutes, they finally notice that they're not alone.

″Can't you knock?″ the useless woman asks.

She had better not anger me further because I'd simply forget that she's a female. She and I have never been on good terms. She just hated me and I didn't know why. I do now.
I patiently wait for my father to say something. He looks uncomfortable.

″Stephanie″, he says to her, ″why don't you wait outside?″

″Seriously? Because of him? He should be the one to wait outside″, she says.

Jim uses his eyes to plead with her. Yes, I called him Jim. Sue me. He ceased to be my father a long time ago and today only confirmed it.
The bat finally leaves, not without giving me a dirty look. I just ignore her.

You see, Jim and I have had a rather cold relationship. My mom is the only reason we tolerate each other. At least, she's the reason I tolerate him.

When I was a kid he loaded me with money like there was no tomorrow but he never did the little things fathers did like play baseball. His reason was always, 'he was busy'. He always forgot my birthday, didn't care how I was doing in school and he even missed my graduation. That did it. Whenever I voiced my complaints, he'd throw an envelope of money at me.

People call me a momma's boy because I spend lots of time with her. As far as I'm concerned, she's the only parent I have. Jim just believes that money is everything.

Right now, I'm waiting for him to do the usual: throw a bag of money at me. Once he does that, I'll have a reason to show him the bad side of me.

″Son.″

″Jim.″

″You won't tell your mom, will you?″

He hasn't mentioned money yet. He might actually have a brain in there.

″Maybe,″ I say, ″she shouldn't really deceive herself into thinking she's married to you.″

″Fine. How much do you want? ″ he asks.

That's it.

″What do you take me for Jim?! You're cheating on my mother and you think you can bring me into being fine with it?! You're disgusting. Next thing I'll hear is that you want that witch to move in.″

″She will,″ he says with fear?

″What did you say?″

″She and my children are moving in soon.″

I put on a calm face. ″Really. How old is the eldest child?″

″He's 16.″

″Wow. Congratulations Jimmy″, I say as I give him a round of applause.

″Sam, you're scaring me.″

″Why are you scared now? You weren't scared when you were cheating on my mother. I just have one question for you, why did you do this?″

He sighs. ″You were never enough Sam. I wanted children, not a child. Your mom couldn't give me that.″

″Ok. Bye then.″

I slam the door as I hear his voice, ″Sam wait. ″

I drive to Amara's place.

″Hey Sam″, she says, opening the door.

I ignore her and lock myself in one of the rooms then I begin to punch the wall.

I was never enough?

Some of the things I've done were to make that douche proud but I was never enough.

I finally open the door to a confused Amara after punching my knuckles sore.

I finally understand how Alexis must have felt when her father rejected her.
