"No!" Mrs. McClain exclaims as the Galaxy Garrison officer grabs her arm and starts to pull her out of the medium sized office.

"I'm not giving up on my son!" She yells at Commander Iveringson. Iveringson holds up his hand the the officer stops pulling her out of the room.

"For all we know, Mrs. McClain, Lance is dead." His monotonous voice states. He's seen these cases before.

"HE IS NOT DEAD!" She fumes.

"There is a very large chance that he is." His voice is way too calm for the situation.

"My Lance is not dead," Mrs. McClain starts to well up. "Please, Commander, he's my baby boy! All I want is confirmation... I-I-if he really is dead, I need to know.... but somewhere in my heart I know he's alive and needs to be rescued he must be so scared-"

She rambles on, and the tears start pouring. Iveringson didn't care. Lance wasn't his problem now. He points to the door and the officer behind Mrs. McClain starts dragging her out again.

"Please, Commander!" She yells at him desperately, willing to do anything to get her Lance back.

"We've done all we can do." Iveringson repeats the same phrase in the same voice that he's said to a million other parents who don't understand that with space exploration comes sacrifice.

Mrs. McClain is taken out the room against her will. If she hadn't been forced out, she would have stayed until she got an answer. She wasn't giving up that easily. She'd never until she found Lance.

The officer closes the door.

Iveringson looks around his office. The room is neatly organized, files put into bins on a large shelf alphabetically. To him, each person at the Garrison is just a file. Lance's file is on the desk, unorganized and looked through. He didn't care. The kid's dead. He and the rest of the missing cadets were just files waiting to be replaced.

He swipes Lance's file into the trash and prepares for his next meeting.

The door opens softly.

"Hello, Mrs. Garrett."
