Movie Sets and Dance Duets
May 2018
You were beyond excited. For the past four months you anticipated this day with great joy. As the Atlanta skyline illuminated a light yellow through the windows of your car you just couldn't help but smile at the thought of being in your first film. Of course the majority of the details of the film were unknown to you. You had no idea who would be playing the male lead in the film only that filming was being done in Atlanta so he could be available for possible re-shoots of a different film he is a part of. You drove to set, smiling brightly as you flashed your badge to the security officer. As you pulled into a parking spot, you grabbed your bag and made your way to craft services to grab some coffee and a quick bite to eat.
After grabbing the quick bite you made your way to your trailer. Opening the metal door with your name on it you were immediately greeted with cozy tiny home esque atmosphere. Considering that you had all the necessities, a sofa, desk space and television, a small kitchen, AC, a bed, and a bathroom you really couldn't complain. Sitting on the small dining area table was a vase with beautiful arrangement of pink peonies and peach tulips tucked in with simple greenery. Attached to the flowers was a super sweet note from the director:
(Y/N),
Welcome to the wonderful Pas de Deux family I can't wait to see everything you and your character do.
See ya on the first day of shooting,
Brooklyn De veaux
You smiled, mentally thanking your wonderful director before deciding to explore the set and perhaps find the dance studio and maybe costumes so that way you could check out the selection of dance shoes
When you eventually found the rehearsal studio space you noticed that all the point shoes were also kept in cubbies, much like they were when you grew up dancing at the San Francisco Ballet school. Walking over you noticed the names of all the dancers before finding a cubby with your name on it. Curious you peaked in to see what was inside and you were excited to find about 30 pairs of Freed of London pointe shoes. Glancing over, you received a small nod signalling that you could snag a pair or two to break in.
Tom's POV
Arriving on set was really a feeling that would never get old for me. While filming didn't begin till next week, rehearsals for dance routines begin tomorrow. I walked over to my trailer to put down my bag before deciding to explore set and perhaps formally meet some of my costars. I had yet to even learn the name of the young woman playing my on screen partner for the movie but all I did know is she came down from New York today and that this film would be her first time on the big screen. Setting my bag down I turned to walk out the trailer door saying a quick bye to Harrison before stepping out into the humid Atlanta air.
Eventually I had managed to walk almost all of the set without running into my film and dance partner. Finally I thought to explore the rehearsal studio. I must have entered through a side or back door because the hall of studio rooms was the first thing I saw. I wandered down the long pale blue hall before hearing what appeared to be an interesting piano medley of music from Avenue Q, I peaked my head in the small window and noticed a dancer practicing jumps and leaps across the floor. I hadn't realized how long I had been staring until the music had stopped. Seeing that she had gone to get some water I took it as my opportunity to go in and speak with her.
"Those were some great sissonnes you had back there."
"Thanks, but I think that my last two were a little shaky. Oh I'm.."
"(Y/N)!" I say cutting her off when she finally turned around, "I didn't realize that you were in this film."
"Tom, wow I didn't know what I took this job that you would be in the movie. Here, let me do my cool down really quick and then we can talk some more."
"Oh, yeah of course."
(Y/N) finished her cool down, she took off her pointe shoes and slipped on a pair of dusty rose nike trainers. I handed her her water bottle and the pair of us walked out of the studio back to my trailer where we hung out and caught up with Harrison. She told us about the winter opera and spring Shakespeare show she participated in and how she was so excited that she was beginning her senior year at Tisch in the fall. Mostly though, she spoke about how excited she was about the young girl she helped train was offered to study at SAB and how she was just so happy that this young lady was going to be able to share her talent with the likes of Peter Martins. The evening continued on and as it began to get late I offered to walk (Y/N) back to her trailer.
Taking her hand in mine, the two of us made our way through the hot Atlanta night fighting of mosquitos back to her trailer. Walking up the steps I leaned in to kiss her goodnight.
"Tom, please I can't keep doing this."
"What? I don't understand."
"This Tom. I can't keep doing this. One minute you kiss me and then you don't speak to me for three months and then when you do see me, it's all, 'you're great to hang out with.' I can't keep pretending that you don't drive me crazy and that every time I see your face I just want to kiss you and hold your hand, but if every time you even get close with me you stop talking to me and act like nothing ever happened then I don't want that. Just because I may wear my heart on my sleeve Tom, doesn't mean it's yours to break. Goodnight Thomas see you in the morning," she closed the door without another word and I was left there on the steps of her trailer with my heart tearing at the seams.
