DAY FOUR

The next morning, I was at my locker, and Luke came up behind me, scaring me. I turned around to see it was him after I had jumped, scared.

"Luke!" I exclaimed, hitting him once. He just laughed at how scared I was. I glared at him, but he just kept laughing.

"I'm sorry," he laughed again, "I just can't help it. You jumped so high.. You were so scared."

"Shut up," I bit my lip, turning back to my locker. Luke walked towards his locker after saying, "I'll see you in first period."

I got the books I needed out of my locker and shut it before walking to my homeroom class. I sat in my assigned seat and soon, the teacher began taking roll call. I noticed that Caylen was missing.

I saw her right outside of the room, talking to Luke. She was smiling from ear to ear when he was talking to her. Her smile faded, and she nodded. She walked into the room and sat down. It was a good thing her name was at the end of the list, or she would've been marked as absent, or late.

"Here!" She called out when our teacher said her name. I turned back to her because she sat right behind me.

"What were you talking to Luke about? You seemed happy, then really sad.." I wanted to know if I could help her.

"Don't worry about it. I'll be fine. You just, don't worry about me. Go on with your day normally. I won't need any help," she sighed. I shrugged, agreeing, and turned around.

The announcements came on, and after they were finished, we walked out of the classroom with our books.

I made my way towards the Home Economics room, and when I got there, Luke was already there. He wasn't sitting in the seat he sat in yesterday, though. He sat in the seat he had sat in two days ago, right beside my normal one.

"So I see that you've decided not to sit in my normal seat today?" I asked him, sitting down where I usually do.

"Yeah, but don't be surprised if you come in tomorrow, and I'm sitting in that seat again," he pointed to the desk I was sitting at.

"Ugh, fine.." I sighed, "so what were you talking to Caylen about in the hall? She seemed to be pretty happy, then sad."

"It's obvious that she likes me," he shrugged, "she was probably smiling because she was talking to me. I'm surprised you didn't know that."

"No, I know that she likes you, but.. Why did she frown? Did you say something that hurt her? I don't want you to hurt my best friend."

"No, I didn't say anything that hurt her, I don't think. I only said something about my girlfriend, and that's it," he looked towards the chalkboard to see if anything had been written.

He had a girlfriend? I didn't know that. He hasn't said one thing about her when he's around me. She could be from a different school.

"What's her name?" I asked, wanting to know a little more. Lately, he had been open towards me and had told me a lot about himself. With this subject, well, he seemed to push it off.

"Why do you need to know her name? Plus, I shouldn't have even told anyone. She wants our relationship to be a secret," he snapped and turned his head towards Mrs. Miller's desk, then to his lap.

"Oh. Sorry," I apologized. I didn't like the way he snapped at me whenever I asked for her name. It's a simple question. He could've just told me they wanted to keep it secret..

Maybe that's why he was looking at the stuff about marriage in his Home Ec book? Had they been dating long enough for him to want to marry her? He hasn't said more about her other than today.

Why was I even thinking about this? It's not my business. We're talking about his girlfriend here, and that's none of my business to know her name or whether he wants to marry her or not. But for some reason, I really wanted to find out.

Mrs. Miller took roll call, and I wasn't paying attention. She said my name once, and I wasn't listening. Luke nudged me, and when she called my name again, I yelled out, "here!"

I really wasn't thinking right. Why was Luke having a girlfriend bothering me so much? It shouldn't!

Mrs. Miller began the lesson for the day. Today was the day that we got the good thing, the thing to help us in our 'marriage'. I wasn't sure what that was going to be. I just hoped Luke wouldn't be snappy the rest of the period.

Luke picked out a paper from Mrs. Miller's basket and laid it on my desk. I looked over at him staring off into space. I opened the paper, rolling my eyes. The one word on the little piece of paper was "raise". I showed him, and he nodded.

"So, Luke, how are we going to use the money from my raise?" I asked him. His head snapped towards me, "your raise?" Well, there goes my wish for him not being snappy for the rest of the period..

"Yeah, I mean, it could be your raise, but it doesn't matter," I shrugged. He looked down at the word on the piece of paper.

"I don't know. We could use it to put more aside in, like, emergency funds. We could also use it to.. maybe help pay off our 'house'. I don't know. It doesn't matter to me."

"I think they're both good ideas. We could write multiple ones down. Who knows how good the raise is? We could use it for both?" I suggested.

"Yeah, we could," he nodded, beginning to write.

The whole time I was writing, I thought about Luke saying he had a girlfriend. Maybe I was just thinking about it because I was worried that Caylen would be really sad if it's true. Yeah, I'll go with that.

But that wasn't the case.
