Mission Failed

"Agent Redfox, do you copy?"

There was white noise as the operator waited for a response.

"Yeah, I hear you..." Gajeel finally replied, his voice slightly muffled.

"How are things going in Vladknor's Mansion?"

"Security cameras are down... I've successfully entered the building without setting off any alarms. I'm nearing the target of the operation now..." He reported into his mic.

Suddenly, an alarm went off.

"Agent Redfox, what's happening?!"

"Shit... they're onto me. Redfox out until further notice!"

Gajeel switched off his microphone in order to focus on the task before him.

Currently, he was running down the long, velvet carpet of the Vladknor Mansion.

He should've known their security would've been tight.

It was never good to be too comfortable in your surroundings.

Gajeel could hear the sound of the guards behind him.

He turned a corner, turning back to the crowd and pulling out a small tranquilizer gun.

"Damn it, how could I make such a rookie mistake?!"

He began to fire, his aim fairly accurate.

One by one, the guards fell numb, soon falling to the ground.

With the guards out of the way, Gajeel continued to pursue his target.

He had to finish the mission.

It'd been a simple theft.

All he'd been asked to do was steal a couple million dollars.

Gajeel had done far more complex missions almost perfectly.

How had he screwed up so majorly?

"He's after the safe!" A voice yelled.

A thundering sound of footsteps followed.

More guards?!

Gajeel picked up speed, turning corners like a swerving car.

Then he stopped.

Before him was the room which held Vladknor's safe.

Hastily, he began pulling at the handle, only to see it wouldn't budge.

Gajeel looked to the side to see a passcode lock system.

He was so close.

"Hurry! Over here!"

Shit, they were on his tail.

Gajeel noticed a pillar on the wall, which led to a trapdoor in the ceiling.

It was doable.

He couldn't risk getting caught.

He'd have to ditch the mission.

Gajeel began climbing quickly, his shoes doing their best to grip on.

He reached the trapdoor, pushing it open.

"There he is! He's getting away!" Gajeel heard from below him.

He pushed himself up, landing on the roof of the mansion.

Gajeel ran across the cement, jumping walls where the roof raised and lowered.

He reached the edge of the mansion, climbing down the ladder attached to the side of the building.

Security was filing out of the house now, but Gajeel booked it.

He ran as fast as he could, until he reached his car.

Gajeel climbed in, starting up the vehicle and beginning to drive.

With his escape secure, he turned back on his microphone.

"Agent Redfox to Operator! Do you copy, Operator?"

"That's a copy, Agent Redfox. What's your status?"

"I'm currently fleeing the property. Too much unexpected security... I've failed to retrieve my target."

"I see... The boss will want to speak upon your return. Operator, signing off!"

Gajeel sighed.

"That's a copy..." He mumbled to himself.

He'd really screwed up this time.
