Chapter 5
Ghost stood at the kitchen counter, stirring his drink. He let out a quiet yawn, having just got up no more than 10 minutes ago.
"Good morning, Sir." He heard Johnny greet, walking to the cabinet next to him. He grabbed a box of cereal and a bowl.
"Hey."
"Did you sleep well?"
"... not really."
Johnny turned to him, frowning.
"And why is that?" he asked. Ghost thought about it for a moment. He had never been the heaviest sleeper.
"I'm not sure. I'm sure whatever it is will go away eventually."
"... if you say so. But just remember that you can tell me anything, alright?"
"Of course, Johnny. Don't worry, I'm not keeping anything from you." Ghost sighed, giving him a small smile. He took a sip of his tea, cringing. It was still way too hot. He sighed, setting it down on the table. Ghost sat down, adjusting his hoodie. The Brit sat down across from him, taking a bite of his food. Ghost looked around. The apartment was small, but kind of cozy. It worked well as a temporary home.
"So... how have you been?" Johnny asked.
"I'm fine, I suppose. I guess that I'm just trying to sort everything out in my head. Having over 10 years of missing memories come back all at once isn't exactly easy, you know?"
"I wish I could understand what you're going through." The older man muttered, looking down at his coffee. Ghost's eyes softened, giving him a small smile. He reached forward, taking Johnny's hand into his two smaller ones. The Brit looked up at him, clearly frustrated.
"We-... we can't understand everything all the time, Johnny. Sometimes we just need to go with the flow."
"... wow. I'm impressed with you, Sir."
"What? Why?" Ghost questioned. Johnny smiled.
"You're acting so mature. It's... interesting."
Ghost blushed a bit, letting go of the Brit. He tried his best to not appear flustered. Johnny was just so embarrassing sometimes.
"S-Shut up." he muttered. The older man just laughed, taking another sip of his tea. Ghost just looked away, beginning to think. His mind was so quiet. It was kind of nice to not have Jimmy screaming in the back of his head all the time. Despite this, and all the trouble that he had caused, Ghost actually kind of missed having his brother around. He knew that Jimmy probably missed him too. They had been together everyday for pretty much their entire lives up until about a week ago. He found himself hanging around Johnny more often. Especially since they now shared a room... and a bed. But that was because they both refused to let each other sleep on the couch.
"So... have you been having anymore nightmares?"
"Well yeah, but I've actually been having less than usual! Besides, if I'm being honest... sleeping next to you is kind of comforting." Ghost told him, blushing a bit.
"I'm glad you find my presence so relaxing."
"D-Don't say it like that! You make it sound super weird!"
Johnny just smiled. Ghost sighed, looking away. He finished his cup of tea, frowning when he heard his cellphone ringing from their bedroom. He stood up, quickly making his way to the back of the apartment. Ghost answered. It was Jimmy.
"Hello?"
"Heyyyy Gregory! Gavin said I could talk to you through this little box, so I decided to try it out!"
"Well I'm glad that you've got it all figured out. Hey... what are you doing today?" Ghost asked. He heard the killer pull away from the phone to ask Gavin. He returned moments later.
"Nothing. Why?"
"Johnny and I don't really have anything to do today either, so I was wondering if you wanted to hang out."
He heard Jimmy let out an excited squeak, and in the background he heard Gavin yell for him to shut up. Ghost tried not to laugh.
"That would be awesome! When, when?!"
"How about 1:00? You can have lunch at home or here. Whatever you want to do."
"Ok! I-I'll see you then!" Jimmy giggled. The call finished, and Ghost put his phone down. He couldn't help but feel excited. Ghost shuffled back out to the kitchen, peeking around the corner. Johnny soon noticed him.
"What are you doing over there?"
"... staring at you."
"Why?"
"Because I may or may not have scheduled something for 1:00 today... with Jimmy. Without checking with you."
Johnny nodded slowly.
"Alright... is he coming over here?" The Brit questioned.
"Yep. I think Gavin is coming too. Is that ok?"
"... that's fine, Sir. As long as he behaves."
Ghost sighed, looking away. He knew that Johnny hadn't actually spent any time with his brother since their dad's funeral when they were teenagers. Needless to say, it didn't go well. Ghost just hoped that everything would go well today. For everyone.
