Chapter 34

Johnny looked around while he waited for Ghost to come down to help him with the groceries. Something felt different, strange. He was a bit worried. Whenever something felt strange in their world it usually meant bad things were going down. He had just started to really get anxious when Ghost came outside, waving. He was still in his pajamas.

"Hey! How was the store?"

"It was fine, a bit crowded. I see you've been busy." Johnny chuckled. Ghost grinned.

"Very. I just finished my movie."

"Wonderful. Here, I have a few bags for you."

He moved out of the way, opening the door to the van for him. The man adjusted his hoodie before scooping the bags into his arms with a tiny huff. Johnny did the same, locking the car when he was done. He opened the door for Ghost, allowing him to go upstairs ahead of him. As soon as he got into the apartment a familiar smell filled his lungs.

"... was Gavin here?" Johnny questioned, his eyes narrowing. Ghost stopped for a moment before nodding, setting the food down on the dining room table.

"Yeah, he was. How'd you know?"

"It smells like cigarettes and I know you don't smoke. So why'd he come over?"

"He just needed my help with something. It's no big deal."

"I see. I trust you're not lying to me."

Ghost scoffed and rolled his eyes.

"I'm not lying! I know you get all worried, but I promise that I would tell you if it was important."

Johnny nodded, knowing his friend was right. He had struggled with anxiety since he was young, but it had definitely gotten much worse since their house was destroyed by a literal vortex from another dimension.

"You're right Sir. I'm sorry." Johnny sighed. He smiled when Ghost gently rubbed his back in a comforting way, giving him a couple pats.

"It's fine, dork. Let's put everything away and then we can order some of that Thai food you like, ok?"

"Alright."

The two went to the kitchen, sorting everything. Johnny felt bad for doubting Ghost, but he really just couldn't help it. After years of possession issues, he found it kind of hard to trust his partner. He always felt like he had to be ready for anything. Ghost seemed to notice that he was in his head and stopped, facing him directly.

"What're you thinking about that's got you making that sour face?"

"It's nothing."

"If I'm not allowed to lie to you then you aren't allowed to lie to me. Just tell me what's wrong, Johnny."

He stared at Ghost for a moment before quickly giving in.

"I guess I'm not used to you being fully in control, that's all. I don't 100% believe that Jimmy would just randomly decide to stay out of your head now after all this time." Johnny muttered. He could hear the guilt in his own voice.

"But things are different now. I remember everything and I've talked to him about it multiple times. Besides, he has no reason to possess me when he's happy living with Gavin."

"I suppose that's true. I just worry about you, that's all. What if he snaps and decides to come back? I don't know if either of us could handle that. I know I sure as hell couldn't."

Ghost's eyes softened, and despite not being a super lovey person pulled him into a very gentle hug. Johnny hugged him back, blushing for a moment at the unusual tenderness of it. They held it for a bit before pulling away.

"It'll be ok. From now on it's me and only me, alright?"

Johnny nodded.

"Just you? Perfect." he quietly purred, letting out a small chuckle before taking Ghost's hand into his own. The smaller man very quickly went back to his easily flustered self, the tenderness dissipating.

"God, you're so sappy! Have you been drinking again?"

Johnny scoffed, shaking his head.

"No, I'm just thankful that I have you. I admire you a lot."

"You admire me?"

"I do."

Ghost's chest puffed with a nerdy sort of pride and he stood up straight, brushing his hair from his eyes.

"As you should! I'm pretty admirable and very badass." he told him with a very matter-of-fact tone. Johnny rolled his eyes.

"Of course. Now, are we gonna order that food or what? All that shopping made me hungry."

Ghost nodded, sitting on the couch with his laptop. Johnny took off his shoes and vest before joining him. He eventually allowed himself to relax, leaning against the younger man just a bit while they looked at the menu. He trusted that Gavin didn't do anything too bad. Ghost definitely would've let him know if he did. Even though he was feeling relatively calm now he was still curious as to what his brother wanted. It wasn't often that his fellow Brit asked for help. It must've been something pretty serious. He decided he would grill Gavin about it later whether he liked it or not. Johnny wanted answers.
