Chapter 24

Gavin let out a quiet yawn as he slowly opened his eyes, blinking the blurriness away. He was about to stand when he noticed the extra weight on his torso. He looked down, blushing a bit at what he saw. There, cuddled into his chest, was his serial killer of a best friend. Jimmy was sound asleep. Gavin was about to wake the man up when he noticed a deep throbbing pain coming from his shoulder. He soon remembered what happened the night before, frowning. Gavin felt disgusted with himself. He couldn't believe he lost control of his powers like that, especially in front of his brother. Gavin took a quick glance around the room, glad to see that everything was still in order. Just then, Jimmy began to stir. The little weirdo eventually peered up at him, his eyes big.

"... hi."

"Hey."

"How do you feel?" the killer asked.

"My shoulder is a bit sore, but I'm ok. Are you good?"

"Yeah, why?"

"You seemed pretty upset yesterday. I just wanted to make sure you were alright." Gavin muttered. Jimmy giggled.

"Aww, you were worried about me? That's cute."

Gavin rolled his eyes.

"Whatever, twink. Get off of me so I can have a smoke."

Jimmy surprisingly did as he was told, rolling onto the floor. He stood, stretching before shuffling to his room. Gavin quickly changed into a fresh set of clothes before grabbing a pack of cigarettes from his dresser. Opening his door, he jumped when he came chest to face with the younger man.

"I wanna come outside with you." he told him.

"Ok. ... go change into some clean clothes and then meet me out front, alright?"

Jimmy quickly scampered away. Gavin slipped on a pair of sandals, scratching at his stubble as he exited the house. The sun was high in the sky, and there was a light breeze. It honestly felt great compared to the static, humid climate of the forest. He leaned against the hood of his truck, allowing himself to relax just a tiny bit. Gavin was well aware that the resident lunatic could appear at any moment and scare the hell out of him. He had done it before. After a few minutes, Jimmy popped out from the other side of the car just as he had predicted.

"Boo!"

Gavin tried not to smile.

"Oh shit you really scared me, Casket."

"Really?! Oh man, you're such a baby!"

Gavin just huffed, regretting encouraging him at all. Jimmy grinned, leaving him alone to poke at an ant hill on the edge of the lawn. He screeched one when of them crawled onto his arm. Gavin always thought it was funny how his friend acted so childish sometimes. He watched him mess around for a while before extinguishing his cigarette. He glanced at his phone. It was already 1pm. Gavin wondered just how late he went to bed the night before.

"... do you remember what time I came home last night?" Gavin questioned. Jimmy thought for a moment.

"I don't know, but it was pretty late. Why?"

"Because it's already 1 and we haven't even had lunch yet... or breakfast. I don't know about you, but I'm hungry!"

Jimmy sat silently for a second before jumping up, wiping the dirt from his hands onto his jeans.

"I'm hungry too! We should go out to eat since we didn't get to last time."

Gavin nodded.

"Alright. Wait right here."

He went inside, grabbing his gun and tucking it into his waistband before switching out his sandals for boots. They were better for running if anything went wrong. He also grabbed a pair of non prescription glasses and a beanie for Jimmy to help hide his identity. Gavin could see right through it, but that was because he saw him everyday. The two got in the truck. Jimmy let out an excited squeal, kicking his feet wildly.

"I want chicken tendies I want chicken tendies!" he screeched. Gavin resisted the urge to slam his head into the steering wheel. They soon arrived at the restaurant. It was pretty casual, which Gavin liked. This meant the prices weren't ridiculously high. He loved saving money. He turned to the smaller man.

"Casket if you don't be quiet I'm going to get you fish instead. There won't be any breading or anything, just straight fish."

Jimmy gasped.

"I hate fish!"

"Then quiet down!" he growled. The killer pouted and folded his arms. After a minute of pure silence Jimmy stretched, lying halfway across Gavin as he did.

"... can I get a soda? Pleaseeee?"

"Yes, but only one. You know I don't like you having too much sugar."

The American smiled.

"Ok! Are you gonna get one too?"

"No. I'm gonna get something stronger. Much stronger. ... do you know how to drive?" Gavin asked. He could practically see the gears turning in Jimmy's head.

"The gas pedal makes you go, and the brakes make you stop."

Gavin just nodded. That answer was good enough for him.
