Chapter 20
Jimmy watched as Gavin's eyes began to glow, and his brows furrowed. He had a look of intense focus on his face. After a few moments the tree in the front yard burst into a spectacular explosion of bright green flames. Their past selves ran out to investigate, just as they thought.
"Go. Quick." Gavin ordered. The three nodded, quickly running towards the house. Jimmy grabbed a paperclip from his pocket, easily picking the lock to the gate. The moody Brit had taught him that trick a couple weeks ago. They were able to get into the house without being spotted.
"I'm going to go down to the basement. I'll meet you back here in a bit." Johnny whispered. The twins nodded. Gregory led him upstairs and into their old room. He explored a bit while his brother began to fill his bag with various items. Jimmy frowned when he saw a small piece of paper on the nightstand. Upon closer inspection, he could see that it was picture of them when they were little. They looked so innocent. It made him feel a bit sad. Looking around, he tucked the photo in his pocket.
"How much time do we have?" Jimmy asked. Gregory glanced down at his phone.
"We have 5 minutes. Did you grab anything?"
"... no. There isn't really anything that I want, I mostly just came with to make sure you guys didn't get hurt."
His brother chuckled at this, shaking his head and smiling.
"And what're you protecting us from?"
"Myself. Didn't you see what I looked like? I looked scary as hell!"
"Well yeah, but he's busy bugging the other me right now. Besides, I'm sure if he did bother us you could easily make him go away."
Jimmy frowned a bit.
"What makes you think that?"
"Because you know your own weaknesses."
"True... but I'm not the same person I was, you know. I haven't killed anyone in a while now, so I might be rusty."
"... a while? How long is a while?" Gregory questioned. Jimmy blushed a bit, shuffling his feet nervously.
"About a week, maybe a little longer. That's a long time for me."
"Oh? Why?"
"Because I told you I'd try to cut back, remember? I-I want to make you happy... so Gavin's been helping me to not lose my mind." he explained. His twin nodded, and was about to say something when they heard what sounded like loud crackling from outside. Jimmy stared out the window. The fire had grown beyond the tree now, and was now engulfing the fence and other plants nearby.
"Oh my god... Gavin's losing control, isn't he?"
Jimmy was horrified.
"We have to go! Gavin's gonna burn the whole house down!"
Gregory nodded, grabbing one last thing before running downstairs. Johnny was standing in the living room with a large bag slung over his shoulder. The group ran out the front door and towards the woods. The air was incredibly hot, to the point that it made his skin feel like it was burning. Jimmy gasped when he came face to face with himself, stopping him dead in his tracks. He had a curious look in his eyes, but a sadistic grin on his face.
"Well hey there!"
"J-Just leave me alone."
The killer giggled.
"I just wanna talk! You know, I would've thought that you were Ghost if your eyes weren't pretty like mine. You look so fragile, like a little doll!"
"I don't look like a doll, you jerk!"
"You so do! Man... how far in the future are you from?"
"A month."
His past self looked surprised. Gregory and Johnny stopped, and were waiting for him at the gate.
"Jimmy come on!" Gregory yelled. He nodded, roughly pushing past himself. Jimmy sprinted to where his friends were, and they soon met Gavin in the woods. The area around the Brit was on fire now as well. He had a far away look in his blazing green eyes. They got as close as they could without literally melting the flesh from their bones.
"Gavin you can stop! It's ok!" Johnny called. The man didn't seem to hear him. It was almost like he was in a power induced trance. Jimmy couldn't help but feel panicked by this. He had only ever seen Gavin like this once, and that was when someone broke into their house. That also happened to be the day he got his first serious burn, which was located on his upper arm. He only knew of one way to snap his housemate out of it, and that was to stab him. Knowing they only had minutes before the house would be engulfed in flames, he tore a branch from a nearby tree. Jimmy took a deep breath. He already knew he would regret this decision.
