Chapter 18

Jimmy could feel his body shudder as the shadow appeared next to him, taking the form of his mom once more. The woman moved forward, wrapping her blood soaked arm around his waist. The surprisingly cool liquid soaked through his shirt as she stared at him, a small smile on her lips. The metallic scent was intoxicating.

"Look at me, sweetheart." she whispered.

"N-no."

"Oh come on, Jimmy. It's so rude not to look someone in the eyes when they're talking to you... I thought I taught you better than this!"

"I'm not going to look at you."

He heard his 'mom' let out a frustrated huff.

"... fine, but I'll make you look at me in one way or another."

Jimmy was actually quite proud of himself for resisting the creature. Lately he had really been making an effort to ignore the voices, and he thought he was doing pretty good. He decided to focus on the warmness of his brother's hand, as the woman's touch was extremely cold.

"My radar says that it's here. Does anyone see it?" Gregory asked.

"I do."

"What is it doing?"

"It's trying to get me to look at it."

Gregory nodded, tightening his grip on his hand just a bit.

"Alright. Let's keep walking and see what it does."

Just as his twin had ordered, the group pressed onwards. The creature remained next to him for a while before suddenly disappearing. The chill he had subsided, and he couldn't help but smile. The walk dragged on for what seemed like hours after this, and the moodiest of the group soon grew irritated.

"My head feels like it's going to explode... just how long have we been walking?" Gavin grumbled. Johnny glanced down at his watch. His eyes grew huge.

"We've been out here for an hour already! The entity must be messing with our perception of time."

Gavin just let out a frustrated huff, whispering something about needing a cigarette. Jimmy frowned when his stomach growled. He realized that he hadn't had anything to eat since at least the day before. Now that he was aware of it, the hunger gnawed at him. Taking a glance around, Jimmy noticed that the trees seemed to be closing in on them. It made him feel weird. He couldn't help but shiver, and not because he was cold. He could hear Johnny muttering to himself as they walked. The Brit sounded pretty upset, and it distracted Jimmy from his hunger. He had only ever seen Johnny genuinely angry once, and it was not pretty. Glancing over his shoulder, he made accidental eye contact with the man. Johnny gave him a small polite smile. Jimmy quickly looked away. After what seemed like an eternity, he saw a light. It made his heart sing.

"Guys, look! I see the sun!" Jimmy gasped. Gavin clapped his hands and nodded.

"Right, so why aren't we going faster? I want to get the hell out of here."

"You can walk ahead of us if you want, Gavin." Gregory told him. The older man nodded, carefully shuffling past Jimmy. He walked about 20 feet ahead of the group, quickly lighting a cigarette. Gavin took a deep breath, letting out a satisfied sigh. Jimmy decided to disregard it for now, instead focusing on the increasingly large patch of sun. He frowned when they arrived in the open area. Before them was Gregory and Johnny's old house, standing tall. The one that had burned down no more than a month before hand. The air around them felt cool, and the leaves on the trees hadn't yet bloomed. The paranormal investigators looked almost as shocked as Jimmy felt. Gavin didn't seem to have much of a reaction to it, if any. Johnny glanced at Gregory.

"... is this what I think it is, Sir?"

"Yes, Johnny... I think we've gone back in time..."

Gavin's look of disinterest quickly disappeared.

"We've what?!"

"I think we've gone back in time! Look at the trees, and look at the house!"

Johnny was about to say something when they heard a familiar voice, and from around the corner of the house walked Gregory. He looked sickly, tired. The four ducked back into the depths of the forest, watching. His twin sat on one of the chairs in the back, holding his head. He was whimpering, and muttering to himself. Jimmy instantly felt bad, knowing he was the one who was causing it.

"How are you-... why are there two of you?" Gavin questioned, glancing down at Gregory.

"I have no clue."

The group just sat for a while, staring. Jimmy was shocked when another boy appeared. It was him, but he seemed different. Feral. In all honesty, he was petrified. He had no clue what was going to happen next, but he was not looking forward to it.
