Chapter 15
(so like writers block is a meme -3-)
Jimmy frowned when he saw a stack of smoke coming from down the street. He figured that it must've been from a factory or a bonfire of some sort. His mind began to race, however, when he noticed that the giant puff of smoke was getting closer and bigger. Jimmy gasped when they rounded the corner. His favorite diner was completely destroyed. Its windows were shattered, and everything was burnt to a crisp. A few small flames still circled the building like a wreath. Fire trucks and cop cars surrounded the area. Gavin pulled into a nearby parking lot.
"What the heck?! What happened?!" Jimmy gasped. The Brit looked just as shocked.
"I don't know... it looks like some sort of accident. Maybe a grease fire."
Needless to say, Jimmy was bummed. This was one of his favorite places to eat, and now it was gone. The two panicked when a police officer walked up to their truck, knocking on the driver side window. He began to jitter in his seat, pulling his hat over his eyes. For once, he wasn't in the mood for fight, instead opting to hide. Drawing a shaky breath, Gavin rolled down the window.
"G-good afternoon, officer."
"Good afternoon. I'm going to need you to relocate your vehicle. This area isn't safe."
The older man agreed, the officer walked away. The criminals both let out a quiet huff, sitting back in their seats. They quickly drove away, rolling up and locking all the windows.
"That was crazy! I thought for sure he would recognize us!" Jimmy exclaimed.
"I know! We're lucky that he didn't. ... anyways, I'm sorry that we couldn't go to the cafe. Is there somewhere else you want to go instead?"
"... can we go to the park?"
"Sure. The one near the woods?"
"Yeah!"
Gavin nodded, and Jimmy leaned up against the door. This park was on the north side of town, and was one of his favorites. It was near his childhood home, so he had a lot of memories there, fond or otherwise. Those memories began to flood back as soon as they arrived. He didn't even notice that Gavin had already left the car, and was standing in the grass beside him. The older man opened the door for him, the smell of cigarette smoke and spaghetti clouding his senses.
"Are you getting out anytime soon, Casket?" he asked, frowning a bit. Jimmy broke out of his trance, letting out a little giggle.
"You're so impatient! ... meet me on the swing set."
"That sounds pretty gay." Gavin scoffed. He rolled his eyes.
"I don't even-... just go!"
Jimmy watched as the man walked away, smiling. He wasn't exactly sure what being gay was, but Gavin said it pretty often, so he just trusted that it was a good thing. Jimmy quickly joined his friend on the playground. Much to his surprise, Gavin was already swinging gently.
"I'm so glad that we're the only ones here. I don't need anyone else seeing me like this." the Brit sighed. Jimmy wondered what his friend meant by this. The older man was just so confusing sometimes.
"Seeing you like what?"
"... it's nothing, Jimbo. Go play."
He decided not to argue.
"Fine. You'd better still be here when I come back though." Jimmy huffed. He walked away from the swings, making his way towards the other side of the wood chips. He was about to crawl up when he swore he saw something out the corner of his eye. It was dark, and looked almost exactly like the shadow figure that he saw the night before. Jimmy turned, gasping when he realized just how close he was to the dark trees. Quiet whispers filled his ears. It was almost as though the woods were calling him, beckoning him. It had been almost a decade since he had gone there. Taking one last glance at his friend, Jimmy gave in, following the path. He frowned when he heard someone call his name.
"Jimmy? Jimmy, are you out here?"
He turned, his eyes growing huge when he saw a small kid about 20 feet in front of him. His heart skipped a beat when he realized that he recognized this boy.
"... Gregory?"
His brother didn't seem to notice him, instead beginning to run farther into the woods. Jimmy quickly began to follow him, and after realizing how quick Gregory was going, he began to run himself. He stopped when another voice pierced his brain. The voice of a woman. Jimmy whipped around. His blood ran cold, and the hairs on the back of his neck stood up straight. There was no one there. Not only that, but he was lost. Really lost. Jimmy let out a whimper, beginning to fidget with his hoodie strings. He was really screwed now.
