6: Driving to Hers
(POV: you just skipped the recap on Netflix.)
"That's not all," he smirked at his phone. "I know where he's keeping Kara."
A bit of concern filled every other person in the room.
"How... would you know that," Kurt asked, his eyes closed and head tilted.
"Are you feeling okay," Caitlin half-jokingly added, placing her fingers against his forehead.
"No, guys," Barry pushed her fingers aside, " I'm fine. And you heard me correctly: I know where Kara is."
They all leaned in with morbid curiosity.
"Well," Kurt gestured impatiently.
Barry picked his phone back up, zooming in on the screen. "It looks like she is in a barn on the outskirts of town."
"That's a GPS tracker," Kurt astutely pointed star the phone. "You're tracking your wife. Should any of us be worried about our privacy?"
Kurt began rubbing his neck, feeling for a microchip. Although Blaine didn't believe that Barry would do such a thing, he too touched his neck in a brief moment of anxiety.
"No, no," Barry waved at the air, "it's not like that. When we got married, Cisco took it upon himself to fix us up with any communication device he could. One of his more brilliant ones was a panic alert in our wedding bands. When one of us rubs our ring in a certain way, at alerts the other that we are in danger, with coordinates to our location."
"That's Cisco," Caitlin smiled.
"Yeah, that's cute and all," Kurt sped along the process, "but now that you have her location, how are you going to get her? I mean, it's not like you can just run there."
"Yeah, but Caitlin said that I'd be all good by tomorrow, right Caitlin," Barry turned to her. His distress was visible, yet the glimmer in his eye showed her the hope that he still had.
Caitlin nodded back at him.
Blaine shook his head. "But we don't know if she's going to be okay tomorrow."
The room fell silent as every eye dropped to the floor.
"She– she's gonna be fine," Barry said, maybe trying to convince himself more than anybody else. "She's Supergirl. She's gonna be fine."
"I hate to be the bad guy," Kurt was the first to look up, "but if that were true, wouldn't she be out by now."
"What if the guy is dampening her powers," Barry suggested. "What if she's already out and she needs us to come to her. What if..." he faded. "What if..."
"Guys," Caitlin drew their attention. "I have a really bad idea."
======
"Cisco, listen to me," Kara scooted closer to him, the cold concrete floor scraping against her legs. "They're not real."
Once again, she was trying desperately to bring him back to reality, but that wish kept becoming unattainable. Every time she heard his cries it seemed like she was further away from him.
This was out of her control.
Now, it wasn't like she was some sort of control freak, but her grip on what she can control seemed to be slipping more and more every day. Whether she was being pushed down by Cat Grant or some criminal, there was no doubt in her mind that she was losing.
With Barry, all of that kind of disappeared.
She could relax around him, and let all of the stress around keeping control just melt away.
But she wasn't with Barry right now; she was trapped in a dungeon, watching Cisco getting tortured, after being getting kidnapped by who-knows-what.
All she could do at the time was pray to Rao that Cisco's ring had worked. She remembered not too long ago the tech in her ring that, hopefully her captor did not notice. He couldn't disable that feature, right?
Kara tugged on her chains once again. She had never felt so powerless.
======
"Okay, you'll need these as well," Caitlin handed Blaine and Kurt spare communicators.
"Once again, I have to point out what a terrible idea this is," Barry shouted from the med bay. "Caitlin, you just said that I'm improving faster than you predicted, I can do it by myself."
This was true. It had only been a couple of hours since Caitlin introduced her bad idea, and Barry was already able to sit up on his own and and lose his IV. This wasn't exactly the major improvements that he needed in order to rescue his wife, but these were improvements.
Caitlin's bad idea involved recruiting Blaine and Kurt to go to the barn and do whatever they needed to rescue Kara. it wasn't like Barry could be well enough to just zip over there and pick her up. Caitlin was almost about to go by herself, until she remembered that Blaine was apart of Team Clock. She equipped them with a small arsenal of weaponry, only hoping that they could figure out how to use them, although she gave a small how-to while introducing each of Cisco's weapons.
Plus they found Kara, she might have been the next clue to finding Cisco.
"Calm down, Barry," she called back, "you'll be behind the monitors with me this time."
"I think he's just jealous that I get to be a superhero today," Kurt whispered at Caitlin.
"I could hear that," Barry spoke back in a normal volume.
"I didn't hear you retort," Kurt smirked and looked into Barry's room.
"Boys, that's enough," Caitlin spoke in an authoritative manner. "I don't want to hear another word out of your mouths. Except you, Blaine, of course. Everyone knows that you are a national treasure, and hearing your voice in any fashion is a blessing."
Blaine held his chest, "Thank you Caitlin. And may I add that your intellect only highlights your beauty."
"I haven't told Barry this, but Cisco keeps his twizzlers in that cabinet," she pointed to the cabinet int the corner of the room.
"Which cabinet," Barry leaned forward trying to see them.
"Oh," Blaine winced, "thank you, but I come from a Red Vines family."
"That's fine," Caitlin slightly glared at him. "Anyway, this is important. If Dr. Psycho is there, you get out. Understand?"
"Then why do we have weapons," Kurt made a fair point.
"Just in case," Caitlin nodded once at him. "You guys don't have super powers, so if you get caught before freeing Supergirl, you're kind of screwed."
"Oh, Caitlin," Kurt spoke, "how comforting of you to say."
"I know it's not the most calming thing to think about, and you guys can back out at any point, but we just need to get Kara back."
They all went silent for a heartbeat.
Her absence wasn't only hurting Barry. Even though their relationship had started off rocky, Caitlin too was beginning to at least miss her being around. Kara makes Barry happy, and now that Caitlin has accepted that, she disappears. This was unfair for a plethora of reasons and if spite was going to be the thing to get her back, Caitlin would see to it.
"We'll do our best," Kurt put his hand on her shoulder.
"We'll bring Marl– Kara home," Blaine tapped her other shoulder.
"Okay," cleared her throat, getting out of her own head. "Mission Rescue Supergirl And Stop Dr. Psycho?"
"I liked Operation Night Bird," Blaine mumbled.
"Go team," Kurt punched a fist into the air.
With that sentiment, the two left for their car.
"Stay safe," Caitlin called down the hall as they left. A wave in return.
She sighed after them. She never liked letting men race towards danger for her. She already lost Ronnie and had come into too many close calls with Barry. She feared for what might happen to these men. After all, they had no powers. Stocking them up with guns and ammo and such did help put her mind at ease some, even if those fears weren't completely gone.
"A little help over here?"
Barry was calling from the med bay, as he dangled his legs off of the side of the bed.
"Barry, what are you doing," she rolled her eyes.
"I'm gonna help," he said, matter-of-factly. "You said I could be behind the monitors this time, and I don't plan to kill Klaine because I was too lazy to help out."
Caitlin begrudgingly helped lower him down into a wheelchair. "Klaine," she asked out of pure curiosity.
"Yeah," Barry grunted as he adjusted himself into the seat, "their ship name."
"Their... ship name," she tried to hide from showing her smile.
"You know, like mashing together two names into the one– and I am just now realizing that you were not wondering what it meant," he sighed.
"No," she laughed. "I just forgot how gay you were in high school!"
"First off," he held up a finger, "being gay is not a bad thing."
"I didn't say it was," she started pushing his chair through the cortex, stopping at the control desk. "It's just not who you are anymore."
"Okay, but you were implying it as a derogatory term. It's demeaning," he looked her straight in her eyes. He wasn't joking about this topic.
"I was not," she held her hands in surrender.
"It kind of sounded like you were," Blaine spoke through the comms.
Caitlin and Barry both looked down to see a water bottle filled with cold brew coffee on top of the button used to speak through the comms. Caitlin gave an awkward smile.
"Don't listen to him," Kurt rolled his eyes. "We're just hazing you."
Caitlin looked at Barry for reassurance. He tilted his hand back and forth in a "so-so" manner.
"Okay," she sighed, before moving her water bottle.
"Have you two not left yet," Barry held down the comm button again.
"Of course we've left, we're passing Jitters already," Kurt responded.
Subconsciously, Barry was aware that he was faster than anyone else, but running on his own internal clock left him impatient. Growing fidgety, he would often bounce his knee, or adjust himself when seated. He found himself performing the latter at the time.
Not only was he impatiently waiting for the two to get there, but for every second he was waiting, another passed without having Kara rescued.
"Remember how often we would hang out at the Lima Bean," Barry offered to keep himself preoccupied.
"No no," Kurt corrected. "We hung out at the Lima Bean. You would appear there when convenient, just to torture us. I swear you lived there."
"Okay, but you have to admit that we all had an absurd amount of money for high schoolers with no jobs, right," Barry though aloud.
"I suppose so," Blaine agreed, "but we–"
He was cut off by more of Sebastian's thinking.
"I mean didn't one of your friends propose to Berry with a real engagement ring? I understand that he opened a credit card account, but that's still such a financial burden, especially for someone who's still in high school."
"Well, yes," Kurt tried explaining, "but they were in love, and Finn would do anything for her."
"I guess so," Barry shook himself out of it, "but still..." he faded out.
It didn't take long, even in speedster time, for Blaine and Kurt to arrive at the barn where Kara's tracker was blinking.
"We're here," Blaine announced, the sound of his keys clanking out of the ignition rang through the intercom speakers.
"Wow, great job," Caitlin furrowed her eyebrows, halfway impressed with the time they had made.
"Yeah, Blaine thinks that the ETA is challenging him," Kurt scoffed, giving his husband a gentle shove.
"Alright, well, Kara should just be in that barn then," Caitlin squinted at the screen.
"Roger," Blaine Gabe a serious look. "Operation Night Bird is ago."
He looked at Kurt and nodded as some signal that was not planned beforehand. He then began crouching down, avoiding the doors at they approached the barn. Sneaking around did not seem to be Blaine's specialty. Meanwhile Kurt walked like a normal person, rolling his eyes at the other's antics.
"Opening the doors," Blaine whispered into the comm, "in three, two, one."
He and Kurt opened the two gigantic barn doors in unison.
"This is too easy," Barry thought aloud, gaining the attention of Caitlin. "Like seriously, too easy. It should be harder than this. This guy has to be smarter than this."
"Hey guys," Kurt spoke. "There's nothing here."
"And by 'nothing,' you mean," Barry fished for the answer. "Can't you look around."
The two men stood in front of the open barn doors, even venturing in a couple steps. There really was nothing. The interior of the barn was lined with concrete, very little light flooding the inside by a thin window aligned with the roof. There was nowhere to look around; it was empty.
"I'm really sorry Barry," Blaine said as the air was sucked out of his chest, "there isn't anything."
He couldn't breathe. Barry's heart fell into his stomach and his eyes strained to avoid his tear ducts from opening. She was his everything. This was their only lead on her. She had to be there.
He desperately clicked the mouse on the desk in front of him, pulling up her locater. The dot blinked in front of him, taunting him.
"She's there," he said to Caitlin with his eyes glued on that dot. She heard the crack in his voice.
If she wasn't there, they wouldn't just be doubting her status of living, they would be doubting Cisco's credibility. Cisco's tracker would have disappeared if she had.
"What should we do now," Kurt asked, trying to sound more upbeat, and failing.
Upon hearing Kurt's comm., Barry shot up.
"Did you hear that," he said with the channel open.
"Hear what," Kurt responded.
"No," Blaine also responded, leaning in for an explanation.
Caitlin looked at Barry. "Actually, I did," her face hardened with curiosity.
"Guys," he instructed, "hold down your talk buttons."
They did as ordered.
"Hello," Kara's voice shouted through the speakers. "Blaine, Kurt," she tried to get their attention, "I'm right here! We're right here!"
"Oh my god," Caitlin listened. That sounds like Kara."
She looked over at Barry but all that was in his place was an empty wheelchair. Knowingly she looked upward.
The Flash suit was gone too.
(A/N: I know I'm late, that's why I made this chapter longer.)
