031 | Three's a Team

The station was busy with the scare of deviants arising, even though it was the beginning the anticipation of it turning into something quite large was present. Erika and the two detectives entered the glass-windowed office and faced the police captain. She waved sheepishly at the captain as she knew she was in some form of trouble.

"Erika, Hank told me what happened today", he stood up from his office. His face bore a worried look that then transitioned into disappointment. For Jeffrey Fowler was also a good friend of the Daniel family and knew Erika on a family level. No matter how absurd her actions were he would learn to understand, but when harm came into context, that's when the foot comes down.

"I know I promised I wouldn't get in the way, I just wanted to make sure they were okay", she walked to the painted wall beside a large screen displaying important information," then the deviant chose to use me as target practice, but it didn't graze me to the slightest, Connor shot it before it did any damage"

The captain turned his head towards Connor and nodded in thanks of saving the life of a human being. He then grabbed a file folder labeled humanoids, on it and handed it to Erika. The woman looked down at the title and her eyebrows furrowed at its presence.

"Seeing that this investigation is branching out to other areas besides androids, I'm making it a priority, on the same level as the deviant case", Fowler looked at Erika with a stern look he would give everyone, but this one sent a different kind of message.

"Meaning that we have another report?", Hank questioned as he stepped forward with his arms crossed. Connor was able to confirm this allegation with his LED blinking a yellow color. Connor walked up to his partner's side and announced the information he's received.

"The warrant to investigate and question the CEO of Eversen has been confirmed, we will be able to commence an investigation in the evening", Connor turned to the old man and gave him a nod.

"It's a lead, so the three of you better get ready", Fowler looked at the small group and gave a small nod before heading back to his office chair.

"Now wait a goddamn minute, she's coming along?", Hank put his foot down and lashed out at the sudden order. She could get in much more danger if she came, he thought to himself. The old man shook his head as he did not want a child that just came back into his life.

"She'll be with you two and will act as your rookie detective--she's a part of this whole thing and has insight on it", Fowler raised his voice to get the point across to the police lieutenant.

"Is this even legal? She just got out of the hospital last week, and you want her to put her life at risk?", Hank argued st the captain. The elevation of their voices surpassed the thin glass windows as officers that sat at their desks heard the feud. To assess the situation at hand Connor intervened with a statistical statement.

"I would have to go alongside captain Fowler's order, for Erika would be safer if she stayed with us", the android stated as he didn't want Conan to come after her again when he's away.

"Connor? Are you serious, I've been tackled, shot at, and punched during this whole investigation, she could-", Hank was cut off by Connor's surprising words.

"Then I'll risk my own for hers, I'll just come back and assist you at a further point in the investigation", Connor spoke the truth followed by his programming statement. Erika looked at the android with fearful eyes, she didn't want things to come to that, but if it did, what would that mean for them?

"What about us?", she whispered at a frequency that Connor only heard her. Her right hand formed a fist at her "What if" thoughts and took in the final words of the conversation.

"Connor...", Hank looked at his partner for he had formed an attachment to the hunk of bolts,  both Erika and Connor were his kids and the thought of either of them perishing was devastating on its own. But reality kicked in as he remembered Connor's confession a few days prior. The old man gave the android a nod.

"Fine, we need vests this time and more equipment to be prepared", Fowler nodded as he granted permission. With these last words Erika left the windowed office and to Hank's desk. Connor and Hank watched as she stomped out of the room and to the desk chair.

"If something happens to her, Nat will be on our backs", Hank stated before leaving.

"I know that, so make sure nothing happens", Fowler concluded and looked at the other documents spread across his desk. Connor followed and headed the lieutenant's desk. Hank went on to weapon storage for the extra items he mentioned, which left the two alone again.

"Erika, I-", the young woman turned to the android who could make her smile in an instant and brighten up her day with one look, but now she felt sorrow with his presence. The pang grew greater as she kept thinking of losing someone that she has begun to like.

"Don't say that it will be fine, will you even be you if you come back?", this very question relected Connor's fear, if he were to be killed off--his memories of her would have never existed and he would be the piece of machinery that felt nothing with only the drive accomplish this mission.

"Another RK800, will take my place, but that won't happen", Connor sat at the side table and faced Erika," we'll keep eachother safe from harm"

"So what now?", She looked at him with her worry still present in the pupils of her eyes.

"We wait for Hank then we'll be heading for the Eversen business building located in the higher status area of Detroit", Connor replied as he stood up when the sight of Hank appeared in his field of vision. He handed Erika a vest and a for defensive malee objects. He strapped on a vest of his own and handed another to Connor.

"Don't get all sad that your uniform is gonna be hidden, it's for your safety", Hank said and gestured for them to leave. Erika nodded and walked behind the man. Connor followed the lieutenant's order and placed the vest on and followed them out.

"Gosh I think after this we should go to an amusement park or the aquarium", She randomly suggested places to visit.

"Huh, what I want is to stay home and watch tv with Sumo, just take Connor", Hank replied to her dreamy thought. The older man entered the car and warmed up the engine.

"So like a date?", Erika blushed at the thought, she looked at Connor who pushed the seat forward for her to enter the back seat. She nodded his way and entered. The android followed and the vehicle was set into drive and left the parking lot. Erika got lost in thought again and remembered the name Fowler mentioned--Eversen.

Eversen, it sounds...familar.
