014 | Nightmares

Erika awoke in her room screaming her lungs out. Her mother rushed to her side from the small table by the window. She took in her surroundings to see that she was still in the hospital, but Conan wasn't in sight. Relieved, Erika let out a sigh as it was just a nightmare. Although, she felt a chill trickle down her spine since the encounter felt very realistic.

"Mom...when can I go home?", Erika asked her mother as she took the elder woman's hands in her own.

"A couple more days, maybe tomorrow", Natalie replied," why the rush?"

Erika shook her head. She wanted to tell her mother why, but she couldn't--she needed an excuse. An internal fighting took place within her as tears stained her cheeks.

"I just miss Rizzo so much", she cried at the false statement.

"Oh sweety, he misses you too, but you need rest", Natalie put a hand to her daughter's cheek, cupping it with motherly care," but I'll ask the doctor"

"Thanks, mom", Natalie bent down and kissed Erika on the forehead before leaving the room.

Alone once more, Erika got lost in her thoughts. Images of her nightmare repeated themselves in her mind. Conan--he was alive. He was here and talked to her. Erika's vision became blurry as the images progressed--Connor was yelling and Hank was punching someone. She was confused at this since it all felt real. Erika opened her eyes to see the doctor enter her room, but her mother wasn't with him. Now nervous he looked at the doctor who had his back facing her. She took in a gulp to suppress her fear and moved her hand to the nearest object to defend herself. To her disbelief as the figure turned around, it's cold blue eyes pierced her in the gut. Conan. His voice was different as he spoke and he carried himself in a professional manner.

"Hmmm, babe, guess what I got", her mind went blank as she felt herself falling, Conan's voice echoed throughout the void," I got more parts to help with your arm"

She felt a familiar warmth that now was alien to her touch. An arm grabbed her as she felt stable to sit up. The man caressed her cheek in a loving way and kissed her right arm. She felt a safe, but it was a false feeling. Her eyes met his and for a moment the blue became a calm wave that crashed against the shore.

"I love you, every bit of you-", Conan kissed her on the cheek. As he parted from her face her pupils began to constrict as his face displayed a joker-esque smile. Terror filled her eyes once more as he pulled out a syringe with a glowing fluid--blue blood.

It was the life source for her limbs and without it, she would perish. A firm grip took a hold of her arm and pulled her forward so that her back was exposed. Numerous marking of needles that once entered her body were visible. The sharp end of the syringe made contact with her delicate skin and the fluid entered her body. For it was the only way to make the blood compatible with her own. It was injected by her spinal cord that encased a device that helped interchange the two fluids. The connection allowed her to move her limbs as the spinal chord held the nerves of the body. Her body adapted to the change as she was no longer human, just an abomination made for his pleasure.

"All done, now let's improve these babies shall we", Conan gestured to her legs--her human ones. She shook her head as it was something she didn't want. But for him, it meant perfection as this obsession grew with each visit he made with women that coincidentally had the same name. He would boast on how they felt, how they satisfied him in front of Erika, she hated to hear these words, it made her resent him. But after each boastful moment passed, he would always fall back to her when she showed signs of anger to appease her, but it was too late. The man she once fell for was a monster. She retaliated all his attempts and when she could no longer stand it, she packed a small bag with all she had and planned to escape. She would find refuge at a place located nearby the shores of Detroit for it was a place she could be free--for if she went home he would be able to find her once more. She attempted to leave with two captive deviants that she befriended, but the plan failed. He got what he wanted and used her for his own purposes. Her body went limp as she no longer felt alive.

"Erika"

A voice called. It was smooth and direct. It gave her life for it was the complete opposite of the cold breath of the man she once loved.

"Erika, wake up", the voice shook her core and she abruptly opened her eyes. Her hazel orbs met chocolate once more as her tense body calmed down.

Another nightmare.

The detective android was holding her shoulders to awaken her. She wanted to feel safe again, so her arms made its way around the android's torso and pulled him into a hug. She cried tears composed of sadness and happiness. She hated most androids but for this particular one, she didn't.

Surprised at the action Connor's arms hovered above her back, but instinctively brought them close. He held her near his artificial heart to take all of the sorrow away from her. The two fit in each other's arms like the two halves of a puzzle.

Hank stood at the entrance of room H450. His whole body felt relieved that they made it on time. Natalie soon joined him and smiled at the two embracing each other, unaware of what just occurred. She looked up at Hank and grabbed his attention by whispering some words to him. In response, he smiled and nodded in acceptance of her request.

Connor held her for the longest time. His hand naturally went to her head and brushed her hair. She looked up at him with dried tears and asked a silent question. He nodded and held her in his arms once more.

"No more nightmares", Connor spoke in a monotone voice--an answer to her question. With this reply, she knew she safe.
