009 | Imperfections

On their drive to the coroner's office the sky turned gray and it began to pour. The rain splattered itself on the windshield of Hank's car as they drove. The mood in the air became tense as they neared their location. Hank kept mumbling about things and Connor's LED blinked yellow at this behavior, taking note of a question to ask Hank at a later time.

Upon arriving the building appeared to be depressed with all of the bodies of death occupying it's innards. A roar of thunder rumbled through the air as the two exited the vehicle and made their way to the entrance. The front door was even darker than the exterior, being of dark mahogany it gave off an eerie feel.

"It's a fucking haunted house", Hank honestly stated," -never liked going here"

"You've been at this establishment before Hank?", Connor questioned

"Well yeah, being a detective you need to review all the evidence", Hank shook at the thought of blood," and don't go tasting any evidence while we're here"

"Got it", Connor nodded in return

"DPD! Anyone there", Hank knocked on the door. For a moment there was no reply. Hank knocked a second time and nothing. He readied himself for the third knock, then the door opened up to reveal a middle-aged man.

"Can I help you?", the man asked timidly.

"DPD, we're here to view a body related to a case", Hank looked down at the man," The one involving androids"

"Oh yes", the stepped back to allow the two detectives to enter.

The interior was of an old structure, predating the apartment building earlier in the day. The floorboards creaked with each step the three made. Pictures of coffins were on display in a single neat row lining both sides of the hallway. At the end was a metal wall meant to be a sanitary barrier from the outside.  Connor took in the surroundings as they walked. The coroner opened the door with a slight shuffle of his hands and they entered the death room. The smell of chemicals and death filled the nostrils of those unimmune to the grotesque odor. Connor blinked, unphased by the smell and followed the coroner to a drawer labeled C.E.

Conan Earnest; the man found dead at the crime scene.

The coroner neared the bag and unzipped the seams. Prepared for the worst Hank casually walked behind Connor. As the body was exposed Hank looked at the body, trying to recognize the person. Connor walked to the other side and ran a scan of the body. Confused by the result Connor scanned again. Bruises were evident and bodily trauma was there, but what threw him off was the identification.

Christian Everett.

Occupation: Coroner

Mismatch.

Connor turned around to get a look at the coroner. His face was obstructed by a face mask as he neared the body, his eyes ready for any outcome. Hank remained silent as he examined the body at a human pace. On the other hand, Connor started to question the acclaimed coroner.

"Sir, we never got your name", Connor started.

"It's Jameson Graves detective", he said without looking up from his chart.

"I see, Mr. Graves what was the description of the victim?", a question Connor hoped that would sway the man.

"He was a young man that easily bruised", the man looked up from his chart at faced Connor," a man that got involved with the wrong crowd"

Connor scanned the man, but with the mask on, he was unable to. He started to circle Mr. Graves and examined his clothing, posture, and even hair to get a reading. He then started his next approach, to mention information based on their findings.

"This man was found in a crime scene with an unconscious young woman", Connor paced around and around," she appeared to be drugged and parts of her resembled...an android"

The man shuffled in his place, he seemed to want to vocalize his opinion, so Connor asked him to.

"Do you like androids, Mr. Graves?", he asked," or are they inferior to humans?"

The man started to express a twitch in his right eye. Connor noted the reaction and continued.

"Well, what is your answer, sir?" Connor stopped in front of him.

"They are trash that litter the ground", he spat," a place were we bury loved ones and hated ones, not some inorganic piece of junk"

Connor scanned the man and internally smirked as his LED blinked.

"False statement,,

Mr. Graves looked at Connor with anger, then backed away to a desk. Connor exposed part of his scheme and now he just needed to notify Hank. He made his way to his partner, but the coroner slid in between the two.

"So, Mr. Graves are you new? Mr. Everett hire you?", the unsuspecting Hank asked the imposter.

"Yes, a couple weeks ago", he answered with his back turned to Connor. Connor scanned the man's limbs and saw a familiar result. Now with all the information, he needed Connor inched towards the man and grabbed him by the shoulder. Hank cursed at the sudden movement and fell back. The man maneuvered in a way to free himself from Connor's grasp and threw punches. Each one made contact with Connor's torso, forcing him to cough up some blue blood. Connor touched his mouth to confirm that he damaged and looked up at the man. He responded by wiping away the fluid with his sleeve and attacked the man with nearby utensils. The man's clothing was ripped and his mask removed from his body. Connor shocking ran a scan and confirmed the victim turned suspect--Conan Earnest.

He noticed that he too was part android and tried not to damage any parts of him. Connor punched the man in an effort to tire him out, but Conan refused to fall down. He threw punch after kick at Connor. Now damaged to the slightest Connor backed away as he ran a diagnostic. Conan saw an opportunity and ran out into the hallway and passed Connor, but instead of heading out the door he found himself being grabbed.

"You know a bluff when you see one?", Connor sarcastically asked. Hank's demeanor seemed to rub off on him. He threw the man to the floor and managed to handcuff him.

Hank now on his feet called back up and headed for the car.

"Connor, keep a hold of that freak", Hank yelled out.

"Of course", Connor kept a firm grip on Conan's forearms as they walked out.

"He-heh", Conan laughed hysterically," she'll just die and I can make more of her"

Connor's head snapped at the remark. His blood began to steam at the words aimed towards Erika. Eventually, he calmed down and pushed Conan against the car. He turned the man around and stared with his eyes locked on the suspect. Sirens blared through the night air as the back up arrived. The night now lit with red and blue, Connor asked the man a final question.

"Why did you do this", Connor pushed the man once more to get a reply.

"To correct the imperfections", he laughed as an officer came by to take him away.

Connor headed for the car and waited in his seat. Hank stood right outside the driver's door and let out a small hmph. He witnessed the whole thing and couldn't help but form a smirk.

"Erika, you'll get justice soon enough", He said as he got in the car and drive off to the station.
