Father's realization

Hello everyone. I wanted to apologize for taking this story a year or two for not finishing. I was busy with other fanfics, school, and fanarts. I wanted to be free to make my own schedule, but I can't leave another story hanging, so I decided to finish this story this week.

As a tribute to the upcoming movie, The Little Mermaid, I decided to finish this AU. Coincidentally, the story was based on the original The Little Mermaid movie, and the remake is coming, so this is the best time to finish this. I hope you'll like the rest of this story.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the morning, in Magic Castle, King Galileo, Queen Bernadette, Noel, and Agnes were eating their breakfast in the dining hall. Noel and Agnes felt nervous while eating their breakfast. They couldn't get over the drama between their little half-sister and stepfather yesterday and were afraid to say a word to him. Galileo was a nice stepfather; the two didn't want to go to his bad side.

Soon, Aggie entered the dining room, and sat on her seat where a cold breakfast waited for her.

"Morning, sweetie!" Galileo greeted his youngest daughter in a nice tone, breaking the silence, and startling his wife and stepkids.

"Don't sweetie me, Dad," Aggie said in a monotone voice before eating her eggs.

Knowing that his daughter was still upset since yesterday, Galileo continued to eat his breakfast silently. Same thing with the rest of the family.

After a moment of silence, and swallowing her breakfast, Aggie cleared her throat and announced something important, "Mom, Dad... I think I made my decision that... I should move on from Prince Trollex," her parents and siblings dropped their spoons and forks on their plates while holding the food in their mouths, "I'm the heir of my kingdom, I'm becoming queen, and he's going to be king, and betrothed to someone else. I'll just accept that."

"That... fantastic!" King Galileo gasped in delight, and was the only one who was happy for the news, while Queen Bernadette, Noel, and Agnes were silently sad for Aggie, "See?! I knew you'll come through. Everybody wins!"

Bernadette, Noel, and Agnes murmured in agreement, secretly disagreeing with the king's opinion about this news. All they care about was Aggie's feelings about this decision, and they turned to see her very sad.

"Yeah... everybody wins," Aggie murmured disappointingly before fiddling with her food.

While Galileo was happy about this, the queen and her children proceeded to eat their food quietly. Sad to see the youngest princess feel so miserable.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After breakfast, Galileo skipped down the hallway while reviewing the papers. He was skipping down because he was happy with his daughter's decision without realizing how sad he was.

When the Magic Musical King was looking through the last paper, he leaned on the wall to rest his back, only to find out that a square part of the wall was pushing further. This startled the king as he turned around to see the wall was opening when he accidentally pushed a "button" on the wall. King Galileo never knew about this part of the castle before. Curiously, the king pushed the wall aside to open it widely to get inside.

This is where Galileo discovered Aggie's hideout where she kept a lot of underwater-theme collection. The king looked around. It was a big room with many collections.

"What is this place?" He asked himself.

There, he discovered the jaw of a megalodon, a bunch of seashells, corals, clams, and seaweeds. Then, more Techno Troll materials were kept on shelves. Some of them were found by Aggie herself, and a few objects were given by Trollex. The King of Magic Musical couldn't believe her youngest daughter had a secret hideout all to herself while keeping a lot of her collection from him and her mother.

"Oh, Agatha..." He whispered.

Just then, turning to the corner of his eyes, he noticed a plant in a fishbowl with glowing fish inside. It was a dance plant Trollex gave to Aggie. It was her favorite Techno plant ever. Half of the bowl was filled with water, and the dance plant has water around its half-bottom while having dry air on its head while dancing. It also has sand under it. Galileo slowly grabbed the bowl, and stared at the little plant closer. It was really dancing... it looked so cute. No wonder Aggie took good care of it. Then, the king noticed a small picture on the table beside the bowl. He used his telekinesis to lift the picture, and looked at it. It was his little princess hugging the Techno prince. Galileo saw her daughter's face in this picture. She was smiling... she was happy... happier than usual. Even the prince was happy when he hugged her. Galileo never saw his daughter so happy like this before. She rarely smiled from the heart, and all this happened because she was with Prince Trollex.

As the king left the room while holding the bowl and the picture, while he was inside Aggie's hideout, Galileo realized, for the first time, he was happy to see his daughter smiling in the picture with Prince Trollex, and he wanted Aggie to be happy like this for the rest of her life. But the king then realized he took away the smile on her face when he grounded her from leaving the castle and seeing Prince Trollex again. He felt guilty for punishing his daughter and taking her away from something and someone she loved. The king just wanted what was best for his daughter and the kingdom, but it looked like he ruined everything, and made his daughter's life miserable.

"What am I doing?" He sighed his thought. He went too far of thinking of himself than his own daughter's happiness.

"Dad?"

Aggie's voice was heard when she turned around from another hallway to head to the next one where Galileo was. The Magic Musical King gasped as he quickly closed the wall, and tried to hide the bowl of the dance plant so his daughter won't figure he found her secret room. Galileo quickly hid the bowl behind his bank while holding it, and smiled nervously at his daughter.

Aggie approached her father, and asked, "What are you doing here?"

"Um, I, uh..." Galileo tried to think of an excuse, so he won't let his daughter know he was violating her privacy, "I just fixing up the curtains here," he tilted his head, pointing at the curtained window

Aggie then noticed his hands behind his back, like he was hiding something, "What are you hiding behind your back?"

"What back?" The king grinned sheepishly.

"Come on, Dad. Take out both your hands," the princess demanded.

King Galileo started to sweat. How will hide the bowl while removing his hands behind his back? Then, he had an idea. He used his telekinesis the hold the bowl behind his back while taking out his hands to show his daughter that he was hiding nothing, "See? Nothing here."

But Aggie wasn't buying it as she turned her head to peak behind Galileo's back, but the latter started to move away with the bowl still floating behind his back. Aggie continued to move around to take a look, and Galileo kept hiding the bowl behind his back.

Giving up, Aggie exhaled, and told her father, "Well, all right. I'll... I'll be in the library to study for my coronation."

"Alright, sweetheart, have fun," Galileo still kept the smile on his face, pretending to be happy.

But Aggie didn't respond as she turned away, and walked off without looking back. Galileo saw that expression on his daughter's face. It's an expression of possible hate for him. This was what Galileo feared ever since Aggie was born; in the future, she'll hate him for being too controlling of her.

He needed to fix this. He needed to make things right for his little princess.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When the Magic Musical King went to his office, he put the Techno Dance Plant beside him, and turned on the phone, contacting the Techno King. When the light of the hologram shined from his desk, King Galileo put the dance plant aside, so the Techno King won't see it.

When the hologram was cleared to be viewed, King Ocean answered King Galileo's call.

"Ah! King Galileo. What a pleasant surprise to call me," the Techno King smiled warmly.

"How are you, King Ocean?" King Galileo waved, feeling a little nervous before clearing his throat, "Listen, I wanna congratulate you for your son being the future king once you step down, and I'm sorry about my daughter."

"Well, you know kids today. Stubborn and wanted to be mature. And thank you for the greetings. This wedding and coronation will be perfect!" King Ocean exclaimed excitingly.

King Galileo nodded, trying to be happy about the news, "Yes, yes, yes, I agree on all points. Listen, I've been thinking about my daughter's future. Don't get me wrong, I still wanted my daughter to be queen one day, and someday, she'll find the right Troll to be with her forever," but then, the king sighed sadly, "But... I can't help but feel bad for my daughter is so sad all the time. I want her to be happy when she became queen... and an unhappy princess will never be a good queen."

"And your point is, Your Highness?" The King of Techno asked suspiciously.

"I want to be happy with her life. And the only thing to be happy is..." The King of Magic Musical tried to finish his sentence, but he couldn't bring himself to say the name of the Troll that his daughter loved the most.

King Ocean knew where this was going as he spoke calmly, "King Galileo, I respect your word here, but I can't sell away my son when he's going to be king and married to the girl I chose to become his queen."

"I'm not telling you to sell him. I'm saying is, as kings, we do anything for our kingdom and our people, but as fathers, we'll do anything with them and our children."

"And I am doing that, for the kingdom and my son!"

"Do you really think so?!" Galileo slammed a fist on his desk, making the room silent, Galileo remembered how Ocean treated his son strictly, and he didn't believe the Techno King's treatment was the right thing to make everything better for his son and his kingdom. The Magic Musical King took a deep breath, and exhaled before speaking, "King Ocean, I don't want to argue. I don't want to start a war. We're Trolls. We're kings. We respect each other. But I'm not telling you this as a king, I'm telling you this as a fellow father. It breaks my heart to see my daughter so sad, and I regretted that I never realized it sooner. If I continued my expectations for my daughter, even taking her away from the love of her life, she'll hate me forever, she'll never talk to me, and she'll never see me as her father anymore. I know this isn't the same for you, but do you think your son will ever love you, forgive you, and talk to you again if you'll go through this?" When the King of Magic Musical asked a question like that, King Ocean wanted to snap back, but he didn't have the words for how he would respond. Remembering Trollex being so rebellious was one proof of what King Galileo meant, "King Ocean, I don't want to sound selfish if we choose our children's happiness to avoid getting hated by them. I'm saying that I don't want my daughter to suffer and be miserable for the rest of her life, and I know you're trying to do the same for your son and your kingdom, but you should also think about what your son wants. And maybe whatever your son wanted might be good for the kingdom too. Do you really want your son to suffer for the rest of his life, feeling unhappy? And how would you feel about that if you only care for your kingdom more than your own son?"

Those were other questions that King Ocean couldn't bring himself to answer. They were hard questions for a king to answer. It was a tough decision for a king to choose which was more important; his kingdom or his children.

Since the Techno King still couldn't find the right answer, King Galileo sighed before telling him, "Look, you got 2 weeks to think about it. I'm not forcing you to do what is right, but I want you to realize that whatever you expect for your son will affect him for the rest of his life, and whatever your decision is, it'll be final. Think about it," the magic Musical King then turned off his hologram, ending the call.

At the other end of the line, King Ocean had his own communication device that could contact other Troll leaders with a giant pearl that show a screen. When the line ended, the screen in the pearl disappeared. King Ocean was now alone in his office with his thoughts. The king tried to recall what King Galileo had told him. He was a little mad at the Magic Musical King for meddling in his kingly duty, but there was something in his words that hit him. Something being a king and a father. As a king, he had to do everything for his kingdom, and as a father, he has to think for his children too. He has two things to think of, and he tried to take care of both things. But after a fight with his son, and seeing him so distraught about all of his rules and arrangements for his future, it seemed like King Ocean wanted to make things better for the kingdom than his son, but he didn't want to believe that.

But what if it's true?

What if the signs were right in front of him all along and he just ignored them?

He ignored his own son's complaints and desires.

What if King Galileo was right?

Does he... love his kingdom more than his own son?

Does his own pride get the best of him to fulfill his duties as a father?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Later at night, Prince Trollex couldn't sleep. He never stopped thinking about Aggie. He never even stopped thinking about his force wedding or his coronation. He headed out of his room, and went to the throne room, where he would stand there, and watched the night of the ocean through one of the large windows of the castle.

This month was the worst month of his life. His secret was exposed, and he might never see Aggie again, he and his father hated each other now... there was no escaping. There was no chance of changing this. His life will go to misery. He'll marry his best friend with whom he didn't have feelings, he'll be king, and spend most of his time doing his royal duties, and worst of all... he'll never see Aggie again. She'll be queen, and she'll be busy with her own royal duties too. She might even find someone new and will forget all about their love.

Trollex couldn't bring himself to accept the possible truth and his future life. He would be forever miserable. He'll never be happy. Never.

Just then, Bliss Marina quietly entered the throne room and noticed Trollex by the window. He looked so upset and sad to her, and... already miserable. Looked like her childhood friend needed someone to talk to. After all, Trollex was all alone before she came in.

Bliss Marina swam towards Trollex, and she was right beside him, "Hey, are you okay?"

"How did you find me?" Trollex asked.

"I know you. When you're sad, your bedroom isn't the only place you'll be," Bliss Marina smiled before asking, "Is everything okay?"

The Techno Prince sighed, "You heard the news, right?"

Bliss Marina chuckled. Of course, she heard the news. Almost everyone did, "You're really crazy,"

"I know. I'm crazily in love with a land Troll."

"That's so sweet. And I have never seen you this happy before."

"I was always happy."

"Yes, but not this kind of happy," The female Techno troll admitted before realizing her betrothed won't be happy like this anymore, "Well, tomorrow's the day your father is going to announce our betrothal."

"Yeah. You know him. He likes making good announcements... to him, at least," Trollex rolled her eyes before looking away from Bliss Marina, not wanting to let her see his anger for his father.

The female Techno Troll sighed sadly. He felt bad for her friend. His father wanted to continue this wedding, and there was nothing Trollex could do to stop him. But Bliss wanted her friend to be happy, even if it would not be with her. She placed a hand on his shoulder, and said, "Look, I know what you've been going through, but if there is a Troll out there that made you so happy, and it's not me, you know I'm here to support you."

"You do?"

"Whatever makes you happy, and whoever you choose to be with, I'll support you along the way. You're my best friend, and I want my best friend to be happy."

Trollex formed a smile on his face. There was no hard feeling for Bliss Marina if he didn't love her. She knew they don't have romantic feelings for each other. They has just been friends since childhood, and even Bliss herself didn't want to marry his friend. It was the king's idea. Bliss only wanted to see his friend very happy. Trollex wrapped his arms around Bliss for a hug, "Thank you, Bliss. You really are my best friend."

Bliss hugged him back.

But the two weren't alone all this time. Outside the throne room, King Ocean hid behind the door, and eavesdropped on the whole conversation between his son and Bliss Marina. He heard about his son hating his plans, and Bliss wanted Trollex to be happy with someone else. Guess both of them hated this betrothal. He forced both young Trolls to marry each other against their will, and it was unfair to them, especially Trollex.

Ocean saw the looks on his son's face when Bliss mentioned about the news. He was happy to admit he was in love with Princess Aggie, and Bliss Marina was seen to be happy for him too. She was so supportive. Like Bliss said, Trollex was never seen this happy before, not even King Ocean had seen his son this happy, and... it made him happy too... to see his heir happy, even blushing.

"He's so happy."

The king smiled and even giggled a little when he saw his son blush when he thought of Aggie during the conversation. King Ocean turned around to think about his actions and plans for his son and the kingdom. He compared his duties between being a king and a father. Now that he heard Trollex and Bliss' conversation, King Ocean realized something that it was the biggest mistake of his life as both father and king.

He quickly and quietly swam off, deciding to get out of LED Castle to think peacefully. The castle wasn't a good place to think privately with the castle guards and staff around.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When the king was out for a midnight swim, still thinking about things, he noticed a cavern with a small opening behind a giant stone ahead. Curiously, and without telling the guards, King Ocean swam ahead, and pushed the boulder aside to have a big opening. There, King Ocean, and entered gasped to see the inside of the cavern.

It was like a room full of lots and lots of collections. And these aren't just collections, they were objects that Techno Reef didn't have... they must come from land, and from other kingdoms in the Troll Kingdom. Only one Troll was interested in land objects..., and that is his son, Prince Trollex. King Ocean knew his son likes to hunt for objects from land, and now the cavern was full of them. He saw clothes, musical instruments, and other objects that came from different kingdoms on land.

Just then, he saw a small object on a rock that shined under the light of the moon. It was under the moon's spotlight out of all the things in the cavern. King Ocean came closer to see this object, and it was just a little golden box. When he opened the box, seven small colored Troll figurines of seven main tribes spun around with gentle music playing from it. King Ocean gasped and admired the little music box, having figurines of seven main Troll tribes dancing together.

There, he sat on the rock to think silently while staring at the music box... about his strict rules and pressure on his son. He ignored all Trollex's complaints for a while because he thought the kid was just being rebellious like any grown child would, but now, the king saw his son was so unhappy, and he couldn't take any more of the plans he didn't like. Then, he was in love with the Magic Musical Princess, whom he thought to be a bad influence, but... he was wrong. She was the key to Trollex's bright future and pure happiness, and a reminder that all Trollex should live together in harmony... and he took it away from both of them. He thought his plans would help his son and his kingdom to be better... but he was so wrong. It didn't make things better. If Trollex would never be happy with his planned future, being an unhappy king, unhappily married to his queen whom he never loved from the beginning, and he would never see the love of his life ever again, then Trollex won't be able to do his duties as king, and the whole kingdom would fall apart. If Trollex would be affected by this miserable future, then the kingdom will become miserable as well. And not just the kingdom the king thought of, but also his son. Trollex will live in misery forever, and might die unhappy. If he sees his son like that, the king might regret this decision for the rest of his life... both their lives, and their families will never be happy. Trollex will not become himself anymore. King Ocean even affected Aggie as well. Though she wasn't his responsibility, the king knew it was his fault for taking his son away from her, and she was as sad as Trollex. If Aggie would be miserable as well, then her duties as queen and her kingdom will be affected as well. Both kingdoms will fall apart, and both Trollex and Aggie will be miserable and die sadly forever.

King Ocean never had thought this through. His conversation with King Galileo wasn't all for nothing. It was all true.

"King Galileo was right," the Techno King said in his mind with guilt and regret, "What have I done?"

He needed to fix this. He has to fix this whole mess before it's too late.

This chapter took a lot of me. It took a while, especially since this chapter was focused on two fathers realizing their mistakes of controlling their children to do what they like. I hope you like this chapter so far. A new chapter will be coming tomorrow. I promise!
