Macy's P.O.V
I waited until Max left his room to use the restroom. Once he was gone I snuck into his room, an overcast dimmed the early morning sun. I finally made it in, I began to look around. I looked under his bed. Sure enough I saw a pencil sharpener blade stained with old blood. I grabbed it, replacing the silver weapon with a note and climbed back into my own room. I threw the blade out of my window, so my counselor wouldn't find it and accuse me of cutting.
Max's P.O.V
I finished using the restroom and headed back to my own room. I noticed a slip of paper peeking out from underneath my bed. I grabbed it, neatly written in cursive was a short note,
Max,
I don't want you to hurt yourself. And really I am not going to let you, I took the blade. If you ever need to talk to someone or a shoulder to cry on I will always be here. You aren't worthless, I cross my heart and I hope to die.
Love,
Macy,
I dropped to the floor and looked under my bed. Sure enough my blade was gone, I sighed. Maybe this won't be too horrible, I turned the note over. The entire page was filled, I read a few words, it was a short story. It was about two brothers playing in the woods. One brother wandered off, but the other brother was always behind him. They play a game of tag, until they stumble across a small village. The boys go and play in the town, there they become stuck in an eternal game of tag. Then the story repeats the first two lines, but with different characters.
Once there was a boy and a girl. They would always play tag in the forest behind the girl's house.
We can play tag too but you can't be it and leave! I can't bear to know that I could help someone, but I didn't help fast enough.
So, you're it
I smiled down at the note, I shoved it back under my bed and grabbed my painting supplies. I decided to draw, I painted another bird, this time it was blue. It's wings were outstretched and it's beak was large. I put extra detail into each feather. I stepped back admiring my work, it was better than the first bird I drew. I decided to put more detail on it. Once I was done with that I put my paints away. I sat on my bed and looked at the small clock I was given. It read 12:37pm, so it was roughly lunch time. I wandered out of my door, I peeked out into the hall. Macy's door was open and I could hear someone singing faintly down the hall.
"Macy," I said plainly, footsteps came from inside and the door opened. Macy's hair was ruffled up and tangly. Her blue eyes stared up at me
"Max?" she said opening the door, I stepped in looking around making sure nobody saw me. Once inside Macy walked to her bed and laid down pulling the covers over her and she turned to look at me.
"Hey," I said, I leaned on the desk that sat on the opposite side of the room. Macy shifted
"Hi," she mumbled
"Is everything okay," I asked
"Yeah," She paused laughing a little "I literally could not sleep last night,"
"Oh, I'm sorry do you need me to leave," I said
"No you can stay if you want," she replied, I nodded turning around. I noticed a bunch of pencils and blank sheets of lined paper on the desk along with a notebook. I ran my finger on the spine of the notebook avoiding the metal spiral holding the sheets together. I looked back up at Macy, she was sleeping. I grabbed the notebook and a pencil. I looked for something to draw, unfortunately Macy's room wasn't the most interesting. But Macy, she was something interesting. I decided I would draw her, it took my an hour to get her outline just right. I quickly headed back to my room to really work on the drawing.
