Max's P.O.V
I waited until the whole orphanage fell silent. I dragged a blade across my arm as my scaries laughed tauntingly
"What the hell were you thinking," one of them asked
"She would never even consider a stupid worthless waste of space like you," the other scolded, blood rolled down my arm in thin red lines
"I didn't know what I was thinking," I whispered creating another red line, parallel to the other three that marked my scarred wrist.
"Just die already," the second one said again, I pulled my hoodie sleeve down covering my wounds. I opened my window, I used my shirt sleeve to wipe my tears. I lifted myself up onto the roof and I saw Macy laying on the roof, sobbing. I crawled over to her removing her hands that covered her face.
"What's wrong," I asked, but all I got for a response was her wrapping her arms around me. I sighed and laid back I moved Macy so she was laying against me, she grabbed my bad arm. I winced, Macy looked up at me, she pulled my sleeve back, my arm was smeared with blood,
"Oh Max what is this," she asked, I bent my head ashamed
"Um it's nothing," I replied pulling my arm away.
"See she doesn't like a cutter," one of the scaries whispered, I let a tear slip and turned my head looking at the sky, lightning flashed across the grey clouds above. Thunder rolled quietly, I took a deep breath and leaned back. I closed my eyes and held onto Macy. It wasn't long before a few drops of water hit the roof, and Macy's breath became shallow and steady. I moved out from underneath her, Macy's eyes shot open,
"Oh I-I'm sorry," I said
"No it's fine," Macy replied, "follow me,"
"Okay," Macy slipped through her window, I followed, I climbed into Macy's room and looked around. She was digging around in a small laundry basket.
"Sit," she instructed, I did as was told and sat on Macy's bed. I waited, Macy walked up to me holding a plastic water bottle and a old T-shirt. "Arm," I pulled my sleeve up, the blood had dried and stained my hoodie. Macy quietly went to work, cleaning my arm. Macy's small hands were gently wiping the blood away. Once she was done she threw away the supplies. I sighed, feeling rather calm.
"Macy," I said
"Yes," she replied
"Thank you," I took off my hoodie and set it aside, I frowned at the crimson stain that was visible on the arm of the fabric.
"Max why did you do it," Macy asked, I was a little surprised by the question. I looked down, debating on if I wanted to answer the question
"I am worthless," I muttered, Macy sat next to me. She put a hand on my back
"Max I promise you," she paused "You aren't worthless,"
"Yes I am," I replied
"Max you aren't worthless no matter what," I looked up at Macy, she was leaning her head on my shoulder. My scaries were staring at me through the window, once I saw them they disappeared
"Promise," I said
"Cross my heart and I hope to die," she replied rubbing my back. I leaned into Macy a little, I felt so at ease. I closed my eyes for a little.
