Max's P.O.V

I awaken to the sound of rain splashing against my window. I get up and walk towards my window, forgetting about the new paint there I accidentally smudge a flower I painted. I frowned, trying to rub off the semi wet color from my hand. Much to my dismay, the paint just smears over my hand. I open my window with one hand and stick my hand out in the pouring rain. I begin again to rub the paint off. But I'm still unsuccessful.

Macy's P.O.V

I woke up to the sound of rain hitting my window. I sit up and stretch, I wonder what Max is doing? The covers shift around me as I look around my room. I glance over at Nellie's old bed, and I see a small girl sleeping quite peacefully on it. I hear a soft knock on the door, I quickly walked across the boarded ground and opened the door. Max stood in front of me, I quickly slid out of my room quietly closing the door behind me.

"Is everything alright?" Max asked

"Well yeah it's just there is a girl sleeping on Nellie's old bed," I explained "I think she is new,"

"Oh, so you haven't seen her before?"

"Nope," I replied, I opened my door and let Max inside. He looked at the sleeping girl, on his way to my bed. The girl on my bed had light gray hair and she looked quite small. Which let me to believe that she was really young. The girl shifted and began getting up. She propped herself up with one hand. I hurried over to Max, he buried his face into my hair and wrapped his arms around me. The little girl looked over at us, she rubbed her eyes

"Good morning, I'm Aliza," the girl spoke with a sweet tone. Aliza had large aqua blue eyes, "I'm 5 years old,"

"Hi Aliza, I'm Macy and this is Max we are both 15 years old," I said lifting a hand up to Max's head. Aliza came over to me and sat next to me. Max leaned his head to the side so he could see Aliza.

"Hi Aliza," Max said nervously, he was hugging me tighter now that she had come close. Aliza swung her legs around and looked at the ground,

"Macy I am hungry," Aliza held her stomach "last night the only thing I was able to eat was some crackers,"

"Oh yes follow me I'll take you to the cafeteria," I said, Max stood up with me and we all walked out of my room. Aliza held onto the hem of Max and I's shirts while Max walked right next to me. It seemed like Max was getting a little more brave. We walked out of the housing area and made it to the cafeteria. To my surprise there weren't many people there yet. "Alright Aliza so we have to go stand in line," I said, "you need to eat today," I added looking at Max.

"I'm not hungry," he whined

"I don't care you need to eat, you didn't eat all day yesterday,"

"So?"

"So, you need to eat,"

"Fine," Max said in defeat, and Aliza giggled. Max shifted and cracked a smile down at Aliza. As we were going to sit down to eat our food, Rachel walked up to us. She had blanket in her right hand. She bent down and handed the blanket to Aliza.

"We found it in the yard," she said, Aliza quickly grabbed the blanket and held it up to her face. "Hey sorry we meant to tell you yesterday night but you weren't here," Rachel said looking up at me, I smiled nervously.

"Yeah sorry," I laughed a little

"No you're fine, when we dropped Aliza off at your room we only saw you walking around in the grass, so you're not in trouble," Rachel began to walk away

"Thank you," Aliza said, she wrapped the blanket around herself and began to eat the cereal she was given. Max and I ate as well

"So it is going to be a little harder to go do stuff now," I whispered to Max

"Yeah, unless we can find a way to get around Aliza,"

"Hey Macy I'm all done," Aliza said

"Oh wow that was fast!" I explained, I helped Aliza get cleaned up and we all headed to the commons area.
