Chapter 1

A cold draft blew through the small dormitory room's window. It was a dreary day, but it was only the early morning. Fog covered the grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and rain drizzled here and there.

The dormitory room was dark, but the day was just about to begin.

TRIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLL

A shrill alarm clock screeched to let everyone know, 'It's the start of a brand new day! WAKE UP!!!'

Ava Finch groaned, and slammed her fist on top of the alarm clock.

"Bloody hell, you've got to get that thing checked out." A muffled voice said. In the four poster bed next to Ava's, a bundle under the covers shifted.

Ava smiled, and replied, "Hey, without it, we wouldn't be awake. Don't tell me you wake up early naturally."

A female figure emerged from the pile of blankets and stared at Ava with hazel eyes. A mop of white blonde hair sat on her head. A wry smile graced her face. "Ah, shut up." She leaped out of bed all confidently, but tripped over a Monopoly game piece.

Ava laughed, and got out of bed. Her shorts lifted as she stretched and yawned, raising above her waist. She padded out of the room, and into the girls washroom.

Ava was greeted by the hushed stares of 20 girls. They stopped their conversing as soon as Ava entered the room. Ava gave a tight lipped smile, and waved. The other girls just blinked at her, and started conversing again.

Ava sighed, and entered into the nearest shower. She turned on the water, and yelped as icy cold droplets fell on top of her shoulders. She heard a couple girls snigger at her reaction. Ava washed herself up, and spent a good 5 minutes just standing in the blazing hot water.

Not wanting to be late, Ava got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around her body. She jogged back to the dormitory room, and began dressing for her day. She heard her best friend, Cassidy, come in.

"Jesus Cass, you could have at least told me you were coming in!" Ava pressed her cardigan against her body. Cassidy chuckled.

"It's no big deal. You act like I've never seen you naked  before." Cassidy narrowly dodged a hardcover book thrown in her direction. "Chill out, I'm talking about when we get ready for Quidditch!"

"How'd you get ready so fast?" Ava asked as she strapped on her shoes and tied her tie. She hastily threw on her robe, buttoning up the top button.

Cassidy shrugged. "Must have been the caffeine." Ava turned around and gaped.

"Caffeine? You went to breakfast without me?" Ava asked, gathering her supplies and beginning to make her way to the common room.

"You took so long in the washroom, I wasn't sure if you died or not! A girls gotta eat." Cassidy's replied, as they stepped down the last step of the stairwell leading to the female dormitories.

Before them was the Ravenclaw common room. A high domed ceiling, which was decorated with 90's glow-in-the-dark stars and stickers, covered their heads. The room was littered with scrolls and quills, robes and ties, books and desks. Plenty of 90's memorabilia littered the airy room, such as Furbies (which were enchanted to scare people), a copy of the Candyland bored game, old CDs and DVDs, and much more. At the back of the room, was a statue of Rowena Ravenclaw herself, watching over all her students, with a disinterested, somewhat disappointed look. Students paced around, calling for assignments, fellow students, and books.

"Ah, Monday mornings." Cassidy remarked, inhaling the fresh air. Ava smiled and rolled her eyes.

"It's Tuesday." Ava strided through the bustling common room. She expertly weaved her way through the crowd, and managed to get to the door in one piece.

Ava exited the common room and sighed in relief. Cassidy was right on her tail, and made a disbelieving noise.

"How in all bloody hell did I end up with a sock?!" She shrugged and threw the sock down on the floor.

"I gotta go, I'm gonna be late for Muggle Studies. I'll see you around Cass!" Ava waved in Cassidy's direction, and began her jog down the tower steps.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Ava settled in her seat right as Professor Rowan began taking attendance.

She took out her Hogwarts issued laptop, only supposed to be used during Muggle Studies (but who  ever followed that rule). The classroom was decorated with posters of muggle influencers, a chart with typical muggle sayings (Ava wasn't surprised to hear that pure bloods had never heard of "yeet."), and many other products of muggle culture. She looked to her side and recognized the male sitting next to her immediately.

"Carlisle!" She punched the male next to her in the shoulder and smiled widely.

He laughed softly and punched her shoulder back. "What's up Finch?"

Carlisle had dark, black hair and light green eyes. His skin was pale, but freckles were dotted everywhere. He towered over Ava, but that didn't stop him from being her best friend.

As a Slytherin, Carlisle was one of the nice ones. Yes, he was ambitious, but ambitious in a good way. He planned on becoming a Muggle Ambassador, a gateway between the wizard and muggle world. Of course, he was a pureblood, but he didn't brag about it.

"Finch?" Professor Rowan called, exasperatingly sighing.

"Oh Rowan, do you think your star student would ever miss class?" Ava batted her eyelashes and lay her head in her hands.

Professor Rowan gave a sarcastic smile, but Ava knew that deep, deep, deep down, professor Rowan at least cared a tiny bit about her.

"Gaunt?" Ava could feel the shudder run through the class as Carlisle raised his hand.

"Here." Carlisle wasn't proud of his heritage, but he definitely never made a show of hiding it. Ava knew that, like her, he was an outcast, and she believed outcasts should always stay together.

"Well class, today we will be learning about muggle makeup, how it is applied, and it's properties." Ava gasped and nudged Carlisle.

"I can teach you a smokey eye!" Ava jumped up and down in her seat, while professor Rowan brought out all the products, including foundation, primer, and best of all ( in Ava's opinion), eyeshadow.

As professor Rowan was handing out the necessary supplies, the door to the classroom burst open, and in sauntered all of Ava's problems.

"Am I interrupting, professor?" A pompous voice interrupted from the doorway.

Professor Rowan sighed. "No, Oliver, you aren't," He placed the last eyeshadow palette on the last pair of desks, and gestured to Oliver's seat behind Ava and Carlisle. "but if you wouldn't mind taking a seat, we could finally begin this class."

Oliver followed professor's gaze to the desk, and smirked. "It'd be my pleasure!" He began to make his way over to his seat.

Oliver Williams was a 6'1, intelligent, devastatingly handsome, and roguishly charming Gryffindor. A half blood, Ava and Oliver had always competed against each other at their time at Hogwarts. He could charm his way into any heart, wether male or female. He had curly, blond hair and light brown eyes. His skin was tan, but that was the product of spending most of his time outside.

And he was the cause of every single one of Ava's problems.

He would always encourage the stares instead of asking people to stop. Of course, everybody would listen to him since he was the most popular student from Gryffindor.

As he sat down in his seat took out his laptop, he swung his feet up on the back of Ava's chair, and sighed contentedly.

"Today's going to be a long day." Carlisle scoffed, as he ran a hand threw his hair and glared at Oliver, while Ava groaned and buried her head in her arms.

It was going to be a long day.
