Panic and Pandemonium

People are becoming ridiculous. And we still have water.

Shops sell out of five litre bottles of water incredibly quickly because of people stocking up. Now there are limits on how many each customer can buy (yet they still sell out just as fast), buy before this there was a case if a man refusing to give a woman even a single bottle when he bought all that was left. Some shops have even started putting the bottles in trolleys for their customers.

Police now control access to the springs because people were getting aggressive and pushy. Now it's twenty five litres per person at a time. You leave any extra bottles at the entrance of the road by the policemen. This system works so much better. The area is no longer bogged up with people taking hundreds of litres at a time. Sure, they collect for their families for the next while, but it still means that others have to wait unfairly long.

There is a six week waiting period to get a JoJo tank (a large cylindrical tank for collecting rain water). This is good, but incredibly long. I guess they must be making a lot of money. Similarly, 25 litre bottles are in shirt supply and the price has increased by at least a third. That is when you compare a good quality one to one of poorer quality.

Panic to some extent is good. People need to realise how serious the situation is and prepare for day zero. But to this degree is bad and destructive.

On a happier note: farmers have donated their water to the city. Day zero has been pushed back to May from mid-April. We may be able to avoid it after all, but only if people save water and if we get some rain soon.
