the start
After roaming the large campus for what seemed like forever and asking three different people for directions, you finally find your first class with just two minutes to spare. Biology 1301 with Professor Hange.
You walk into the classroom and a whole bunch of eyes shift to look at you. It was dreadfully quiet with mostly everyone waiting around on their cell phones. They all go back to what they were doing when the realize you're not the teacher and you go on your way.
All the seats were taken except for one toward the back near a window and you try to walk fast to grab it before any one else does. You couldn't have asked for a better spot.
You grab the seat and place your bag down successfully. You look at the time on your phone that now read 9:59am. Class was to start in one minute and there was still no professor in sight.
You began counting down the seconds in your head while looking out the window. The campus was beautiful you couldn't deny that.
It was big and surrounded by greenery. There were trees everywhere and the university was new so the buildings were clean and shiny. There wasn't a single piece of trash on the ground and all the bushes and hedges were trimmed nicely.
You see a pretty blonde boy reading under a tree in the shade but before you can even focus on his face, you hear a scream causing you jump and snap your head toward the front of the class again.
A lady with a brown hair and glasses stood on top of the teacher's desk with her hands up in the air. She let out a scream and began to do a little dance. There's way this is our professor. Right?
"GOOOOOOOODMORNING EVERYONE! WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME TO BIOLOGY 1301!" She yells and spreads her arms dramatically. There's an awkward silence which came from half of students too stunned to speak and the other half trying to stifle their laughter.
She hops down from the desk and slams her hands together. "I'm Professor Hange and I'm so so so so SOOOO excited to be able to teach this class!"
Clearly.
As class goes on and Professor Hange begins going over the syllabus and course content, you find yourself zoning out and looking out the window again.
The boy reading under the tree was gone but a couple on a nearby bench caught your attention instead. They were practically having sex right there in the open. You scrunch up your nose in disgust and try not to laugh.
What was the point of having the grounds so orderly if students were fucking right out in the open?
Suddenly, you hear the sound of a bag opening or atleast attempting to be open. You turn your head to your left, away from the window, and see the girl sitting next to you struggling to open up a bag of candy.
The girl had big brown eyes and had her equally as brown hair in a messy ponytail. She wore a pretty blouse that had white flowers and blue jeans. The more she struggled to open it, the more noise it made.
Once she realized how much noise she was making, she quickly looked up to make sure no one was watching her which is when her eyes meet yours.
Midst eye contact, the bag finally snaps open and she smiles. "Yes!" She whispers, pumping a fist into the air. She immediately proceeds to shove one of the candies in her mouth. She notices you still staring and says, "Oh sorry. Want one?" She shoves the bag toward you.
You read the bag and your mouth waters. She was eating sour warheads. "Sure." You shrug and grab one of the sour spheres from the bag and plop it into your mouth.
You instantly scrunch up your face and shiver. "Oh my god." You say shaking your head. You hadn't had one of these since you were a kid and seriously underestimated the kick that came with them.
"Super sour right?!" She grins. She grabs three more and throws them into her mouth and begins to suck on them.
Your mouth drops open. Three?! You could barely handle one of them. She swirls the candies in her mouth causing her cheeks to swell up like a chipmunk. She looks at you and smiles sheepishly. You laugh and poke at her cheek feeling one of the candies behind the thin skin.
"Mm SahSah." She tries to say but her mouth is too full. You frown. "Huh?" She shakes her head and spits the four balls of sour candy into her hand.
"Sorry. I said I'm Sasha." She shoves the candy back in her mouth and wipes her now wet hand on her jeans before extending it to you to shake.
You laugh and use your jacket sleeve to shake her hand. "I'm y/n." You smile at eachother and the both of you face your attention back at your professor. Professor Hange seemed to still be talking about something that with the amount of passion and the huge smile on her face, you would think she was talking about something incredible.
Sasha slams her head on the table and groans. "This is so boring!" She quietly groans to herself.
You nod in agreement. She turns her head not lifting it up to squint at you. "What school did you go to? I've never seen you here before." You feel a tingle in your spine.
"I'm not from here. I just moved here to come to this university and get away from my hometown." You say without making eye contact. Suddenly, Hange's lecture was much more interesting.
She snaps back up and grabs your arm. "Omg! So you need a tour guide?! I lived here my whole life so I know where everything is! Even the best restaurants!" She began yelling out of excitement and someone in front of you turns around and shushes her. She sticks her tongue out at them and looks back at you.
"If you don't mind." You chuckle. "I don't want you to go out of your way or anything." She grins and grabs another candy from the bag. "It's no big deal, seriously. It'll give me something to look forward after this."
The rest of the class you and Sasha share candy and exchange stories. She was extremely easy going and naturally hilarious. You also leaned that she never leaves the house without a snack.
After "quietly" talking for an hour, you come to learn Sasha is a sophomore in college now. She grew up in the area and came to Paradis university straight after high school.
Before you know it, class is over and it hits you that neither you nor Sasha heard a single word Professor Hange said.
As your shoving stuff back into your bag, the brunette grabs your hand. "You should come with me to the cafeteria! I'm meeting Connie there since our next class isn't until later."
You hesitate. "Who's connie?" You ask as you continue to put away your belongings before zipping your bag up.
"Duh, only like the best person ever and my favorite person in the whole world! You'll love him come on!" She says as if you were supposed to already know that.
Before you can even answer shes dragging you out the room and down the hallway.
People are so nice here, you think to yourself. You really hope it stays that way.
With the speed Sasha was going, the two of you arrived at the cafeteria within two minutes. Impressive considering it was all the way on the other side of campus. You even told her midway that she should join the school's track team.
"I'm soooo hungry!" She repeated over and over on the way there. You assumed that's the reason she was sprinting to the cafeteria.
Sasha searches the large cafeteria and once she finally see who you assume is her friend Connie, she drags you once again. "YERRRRRRR" She yells as the two of you approach the table.
The boy stands up from his seat and looks up at the ceiling, closes his eyes and cups his hands over his mouth like a megaphone. "YERRRRRRRR." He yells back.
Oh god there's two of them.
She pulls a chair out for you and basically throws you into it to sit causing you to almost fall. "Whoops. Sorry!" She says as she rushes to get money from her bag. "Brb!" She says already five feet away.
She stops mid run and you could've swore you heard a sound of a tire skidding on the road. "Oh! By the way! Connie, y/n. Y/n, connie!" She yells while pointing at the two of you and then takes off running again.
Connie laughs and leans back into his chair. With his feet up on the table, he sticks out his hand to you. "What's up, dude?"
You shake his hand and he clutches it firmly when impact is made. Your dad once told you that was an intimation tactic people liked to use.
"How do you know Sasha?" He asks sticking a toothpick in his mouth and digging the tiny wooden stick between his teeth. Guess that means he already ate.
You laugh sheepishly. "Truth be told, we just met right now in biology actually. She's so funny."
Connie smiles. "She's only that funny because she hangs out with me so much. It rubs off on her. She's known for stealing my jokes." You couldn't tell him he was serious or not the way he said it so casually.
It was adorable how you could literally tell how much love the two had for each other in just a short amount knowing them. It was by the way they both lit up while talking about each other.
You can't really tell if it's romantic love or platonic. Either way, they gave off major soulmate energy.
"So, you think you're funny, huh?" You challenge. He looks at you and acts appalled. He sits up straight, hand to his chest and over his heart. "I'll have you know I won class clown in high school."
You do a just as dramatic gasp and slap your hand over your mouth. "No way. Can I have your autograph?"
He uncrumples a dirty napkin that was left from his meal and digs in his pocket for his one and only pen. He scribbles his name and slides the napkin to you. "That's worth a lot of money, you're welcome." He winks. You laugh as you attempt to read his scribbled signature.
Your first impression of Connie was that he was the kind of guy who didn't take much seriously. His clothes were baggy and faded like he either own the clothes for a while or thrifted it. He wore a beanie over his head and his eyes were glossy and red.
Even though his outfit was more laid back with a hoodie and sweats, he managed to combine the pieces with other pieces to make it look like he actually put in effort. Aside from that, his laid back personally only made him cooler.
It was no wonder the two were so close. They were like each other but different fonts. The opposite sex version of eachother.
You were so into your conversation with Connie that it startled you when Sasha slammed her food down on the table and instantly began shoving her face. "God, I was starving." You could've swore you heard her voice crack.
She looks up at you with a mouth full of food. You giggle at how she looks like a chipmunk all over again.
Her face contorts and she frowns. "Aren't you gonna eat?" She points at the table space in front of you. "Oh shit, yeah, um...." You mutter while looking around. You had no idea where to even go. The cafeteria was massive.
Sasha gasps. "Oh my god, I'm the worst! I was supposed to show you everything!" She genuinely looked sad.
"Whoa, you're good. Enjoy your food!" You say holding your hands out and standing up. "I'll just figure it out. I have to learn one way or another."
"I would show you but I'm full as fuck." Connie says while yawning. Sasha throws a fry at him. Then of course, asks for it back afterwards. They start food fighting and decide to leave now that they're distracted.
It wasn't hard to find where the food due to the long line that you found your self standing in it for a good minute. Man, the food must be really goood here.
You stare up at the menu with a finger to your mouth in total concentration. You wanted to make sure you got something you'd like for your first time to start off on a good experience.
"The club sandwich is bomb." You hear a boy say next to you. You snap back into reality and look up confused. A tall, handsome boy with light brown almost blondish hair, stood beside you and you found your self staring at him too long.
"Wait, what?" You ask once you catch yourself. He laughs and points to the menu overhead. "The club sandwich? It's really good, you should try it. If you don't like it, you can punch me."
You smirk. "Wow, you are that confident about it, huh? Be scared 'cause I punch pretty hard."
He looks you up and down and smiles a gorgeous smile. "I believe it. But yes, I'm confident." He winks. Your heart does an embarrassing flutter and you force yourself to look away.
"Okay, I'll trust you this one time." You hope that he catches that you were implying you hope there would be more than one time. Luckily, he catches it and he smirks. "You won't regret it. Not this time, not ever. My word is good." You couldn't deny his confidence was so attractive.
After the two of you order, you begin to walk slowly to your table hoping he would follow. And to your surprise, he does.
"Wait." He laughs and stops you. "You know Connie and Sasha, too?" You chuckle awkwardly because you had no idea if what he was about to say was going to be good or bad.
He looks at you, smiles and shakes his head. "Of course you do." You raise an eyebrow. "What does that mean?" He begins walking and you follow behind him. "Connie and Sasha are my bestfriends. They're really good judges of character so if they're cool with you, I just know you must be cool too." You're so glad he's a couple steps ahead of you so he doesn't catch your cheesing. Almost like he read your mind, he turns his head around to you while still walking and says, "Glad I wasn't the only one who thought so." Shit.
"Jean boy!" The two soulmates exclaimed in perfect unison at the same time. Jean smiles real big and plops down in your seat. "Hey!" Sasha slaps his head. "That's y/n's seat! Get up!"
Jean frowns in confusion. "Yeah dude, don't be a dick." Connie smirks. Jean looks up at you and gets up. "Shit, my bad." He pulls out the chair for you to sit down.
He shoots a look at Sasha and says, "I didn't know we were giving our seats away."
She rolls her eyes and sucks some sauce off her thumb. You just now realized she got another plate of wings. "Turns out I like her more than you, so." She shrugs.
Connie laughs. You try not to laugh as you sit down in the seat. Jean sits at the seat near Connie and throws a fry at his head.
Connie stands up quickly and stands in full defense mode. "You don't wanna go with me. I just beat the fuck out of Sasha at a food war! Right, Sasha?" He points right at her face, his pointer finger just a few inches from the space in between her doe eyes.
She nods but was too busy practically licking her plate to actually listen to what she was agreeing to.
Jean sighs and turns his to you. "So, these are the people you're starting your first college years with? You're in for a hell of a ride." He says with a sly smile and you try not to wonder what he means by that.
As if he reads your mind, he explains. "Connie and Sasha are hilarious, right? Believe or not, everyone knows them. They're hilarious to everyone. They get invited to all this cool shit. I have so many good memories that I got to experience because of those two. And that was in high school. We're in college now. That means bigger, better experiences. It's gonna be fun." He assures you as he takes a sip of his drink and admires his two bestfriends for a moment.
You couldn't quite explain what you were feeling. Anxious, nervous, excited, scared. But you just knew it was definitely, definitely be a good ass year.
But truly, the way you feel when you're around them is so lightweight and easy. You'd hope they're in your life than for more than one year.
You know you just met them but Jean's right. Everyone likes them and enjoys having them around all the time for a reason. They're personalities are addicting. And Jean, well, come on. Need I say more?
"I'm excited." You say, not fully realizing how big your smile was. Jeans chugs the rest of his drink. "Oh, you should be." He sets the cup down and looks right at you. "If you ever need me though, just know I got you." He winks.
"Oh, so it's gonna be that kind of year?" You ask genuinely curious.
And once again. It was like he read your mind. "Year? Hope you stick around longer than that, kid." He says easily as he finishes the rest of his food.
You stare at the clock on your phone. Your next class started at 1:30 whereas Connie and Sasha's class was at 2. Jean's started at 2:45. The time now read 1pm so you decided it was time to say bye to everyone and try your best to make it around campus on your own.
"Okay, I should probably head to class already." You say throwing away your trash and collecting your belongings. You really did not want to leave them but it was unfortunately, back to reality.
Sasha pouts. "Ugh, I almost forgot we still have another class." She slams her head against the cafeteria table like she did earlier in class. Connie pats the back of her head. "Atleast it's the last one for today. Man, I love college." Jean nods in agreement.
Sasha's head snaps up, "I forgot I'm your tour guide! Do you need me to walk you to class?" She asks. You consider it for a moment but then shake your head. "No, it's fine. I need to figure everything out on my own, I'll learn it faster that way." She lets you go after asking if you were sure three more times after that.
You assured her you were fine but she grabs your arm before you walk away. "Wait! Give me your number!" She struggles to try to quickly take her phone out of her bag and drops several things on the floor.
She hands you the phone and says, "I'll make a group chat so you can have Connie's and Jean's numbers too." You smile and put your number into her phone. She had a cute clear case that had real, dried sunflowers in it on her phone. You hand it back to her and she smiles her big, goofy smile. "Yay!" She says hugging her phone.
You wave goodbye and make your exit out the cafeteria. As the three watch you walk away, Jean is the last one to look away. He gets elbowed by Sasha in the rib. "Aye!" He yells rubbing his side.
Sasha smirks. "What do you think about y/n?"
"She's cool." He replies throwing his trash away. Connie grins a shark like smile. "Pretty too, huh?" Jean nods shyly in agreement.
Connie decides to tease a little more. "Who is prettier? Her or Mikasa?" This earns a gasp from Sasha. Jean responds by blushing a little. He decides to change the subject and switch the topic on someone else. "'Heard Nic is gonna be at the party, Sash."
Now it was her turn to turn red. "Wait? How do you know? Did he say that? Or did you hear it from someone else? Who is he going with?" She begins to implode him with questions.

Your next class was English with Professor Ackerman. You made it successfully to your class and you sat toward a window this time again. You loved the view outside from this room.
Yes, the view from Building Maria had a nice view of trees and the open hills. But the view from Building Sina was something else. Out the window, you saw a gorgeous lake with a fountain in the center. The water looked so blue and all you could think about was jumping in. There was perfectly planted flower beds by the lake and you assumed it is where the gardening club met up at.
You hear a deep, clear of the throat and you return your attention back to the front of the class. There stood your professor.
He was a bit short but his looks made up for it. His bone structure was unreal. He had beautiful dark, black hair and his eyes had bags underneath them. He looked like the type to never smile which made you sad considering how good looking he was. And you turned out to be right because he did not smile at all, not even once. Not even when introducing himself.
As he begins explaining the syllabus, you laugh at the massive difference between him and Professor Hange. Hange had an entire presentation powerpoint that included videos and gifs, some really bad memes, different colors, emojis and even music.
And then there was Ackerman who just passed out copies of the syllabus and read out loud from the laminated copy in his hand. You figured he probably wasn't as tech savvy as Hange was.
You look around you to see if there is any potential in making friends in this class since you were on a roll. But there was no friendly, food-loving brunette struggling to open a bag of candy. No goofy boy who looked like he was high all the time and rocking a buzz cut looking for the perfect opportunity to crack a joke. And there especially was no dreamy Jean.
You smile at the thought of your new friends. You sneak a peek at your phone and notice they had already began talking in the group chat and you skim through the messages and read that they want to "meet under the big tree." You wonder if they're referring to the tree the blonde boy was reading under earlier that morning since it seemed like it was the biggest tree on campus.
The excitement builds up inside you when you begin to imagine the adventures in store for you and all the people you're going to meet. You're so happy you decided to go to school far from home and away from everything. Then you would've never met these incredible people. You hope all their friends are just as cool as they are.
When Professor Ackerman dismisses the class, you unlock your phone and read the group chat. Sasha and Connie weren't out of class yet and much less Jean considering his class started even later. You tell yourself that by the time you even walk back to Building Maria, they'll be out already. You would just take your time walking and enjoy the scenery.
Before you all leave, you have to sign your names on a piece of paper on Ackerman's desk marking your attendance. You wait in line and once it's your turn, you bend over slightly to sign your name. You are standing fairly close to your professor and he is even better looking up close.
When you stood back up straight, you caught a whiff of how he smells and it's a mix of green tea and some type of clean smell that reminds you of a doctor's office.
He looks you in the eye and says, "Thank you. Enjoy the rest of the day." And then waves the person behind you forward. "You too, professor." You say back while sending him a smile.
He stares at you for a second and then looks away quick, turning his attention to the person now signing his name as you walk out the classroom.
As you walk down the hallways, you see all types of different groups of people. You saw about five different couples and six little groups of friends huddled together talking or looking at their phones.
You found it a little odd how everyone already seemed to know each other so well. It occurs to you that probably not many people who live here moved away for college and that the majority stayed here. You're not surprised honestly. The school was beautiful and everyone here was so nice. Well, so far.
You check your phone to look at the time once you see the massive tree with an assortment of burnt orange and green just a few feet away.
Connie and Sasha will be getting out soon so you decide to just wait for them there. You set your bag down and sit down under the shade with your back against the tree. You close your eyes and let the cool, autumn air blow through your hair and listen to the sound it makes as it rustles the leaves above you.
You stay like that for a while and don't even realize 20 minutes pass by and you're startled when you hear a loud "Oiiiiii!" close by. Your eyes snap open and you turn to face the noise. A fast-moving duo runs toward you with alarming speed. You can't help but laugh.
Connie plops down on the floor, tosses a baseball at you, and lays his head on your lap. "I stole that for you." He says as he adjusts his head to fit comfortably on your lap.
"Just what I needed." You reply. Sasha lays her body down on the floor and rests face down, using her folded arms as pillows. "Finally school is over!" She mumbles her face mushed into the grass.
Connie smirks and looks up at you. "Now for the day to officially begin."
