Chapter 19

--Sabre's POV--

He sat up, glancing around and keeping his breath as quiet as possible so he could listen out for any movements.

It was pitch-black, except for one small lantern next to Sabre's bed.

Sabre slowly sat up, still listening out for any signs of others, but only hearing the sounds of his own movements and the crickets outside.

He wasn't sure how long he had been asleep, although he was sure it wasn't more than a day.

Maybe it was even the same day as when he had first woken up after the...incident...or at least the early before-sunrise hours of the next day.

Sabre slowly opened his doors, creeping down the short hallway and down the stairs, pausing to step over that one creaky step that had startled him many times before when he had gotten up in the early hours of the morning when he couldn't sleep.

Rainbow was usually the one who would come down and help him get back to sleep.

Rainbow.

Sabre stopped to press his hand up against his eyes and mouth to not start sobbing loudly.

He couldn't be caught.

Sabre continued down the stairs, pausing to blink in surprise at what he found when he got to the bottom step.

Light and Elemental were curled up on the couches, with Elemental snoring loudly with the blanket askew and Light sleeping peacefully with a tightly-wrapped blanket.
Sabre had expected that.

But what he hadn't expected was Time lying in a sleeping bag at the bottom of the steps with a sticky note on his face that said:
'Sabre, if you even think about sneaking out I will find you and freeze you in time for as long as I can as a punishment.
Don't do it. We have a plan and if you don't sneak out we can consider to make you a part of said plan. But if you sneak out then I will freeze you in time (like I mentioned before) and remove you from all parts of the plan except the part that says: 'Sabre stays at home resting.'
Don't test me. I don't care if you're the Almighty Creator of the World and Origin or whatever. I will do it.'

Sabre both sighed and chuckled at the same time, although covering his mouth to stiffle his laughter.

Then a confident thought flashed through his mind.
How could Time even stop me? Even he mentioned I am the Creator of the World and Origin. Even if he freezes me, I can just get out.
And I don't need to worry about the plan, and they don't either. Once I defeat Void, they won't need their plan at all!

Then they will all thank me and I won't need to focus on...
Rainbow...
And his death...
And all the guilty thoughts I have...
And how I could've stopped it...
And...
And...

Sabre stopped himself from going down into the spiral of thoughts, almost stamping his foot on the stairs to snap himself back to focus before managing to stop himself so he wouldn't wake the three Steves up.

He quietly shook his head to focus.
Focus, me! You need to focus on killing Void! Don't think of anything else.
Alright. Let's go.

Sabre carefully snuck over Time and managed to sneak outside, giving a silent cheer that he hadn't woken anyone up and spread his wings, lifting off into the air and soaring to Void's lair to finally kill him.

----

Sabre landed with a THUD! on the tiled pathway, not even glancing at the Darkness figures falling to the ground beside him.

He hadn't even needed to land once to kill all the outside guards.
Sabre had killed them all with a few fireballs and a couple of lightning bolts, with no opposition.

Sabre didn't understand why everyone was so worried about him fighting.
Sure, he had a paralyzed arm and a face that was still recovering from a couple of burns that Sabre will admit did occasionally hurt, but he was fine.
A tiny bit of pain wouldn't stop him, and he was set on revenge.

Oooh, no. That sounded evil.

What was a better way of saying the exact same thing but less evil? Because wanting revenge for Rainbow was the exact thing he wanted. But he wasn't evil.

Justice!

Yes, he was set on justice.
That sounded a lot better.

Now he could get back on track.
Sabre chuckled before slamming open the doors.

He didn't need to sneak in. He could just blast his way through.

And blast his way through did he indeed do.

Darkness figures were falling left, right, front and behind. A few managed to grab onto his arm or wing, but never even got a chance to think about what to do next before they were hit by a fireball or lightning strike.

"Void!" Sabre would occasionally yell through the stronghold hallways when he had defeated all the Darkness in the hallway he was currently in, half expecting Void to jump out and challenge Sabre himself because Sabre had already decimated Void's army.

But there was no response from the cowardly killer.
Not even Soul or Corruption showed their ugly faces.

"Cowards!" He screamed through an echoey hallway, lightning striking nearby to prove his anger.

"Crazy non-Steve!" Someone made the mistake of yelling back, because in seconds Sabre had located them and flown up to them.

The Darkness was tucked in a secret corner at the top of the wall, as if it was either some design error or a place for someone to hide for an ambush.

The Darkness figure was Corruption, who now looked deeply regretting of responding to Sabre's taunt.

Before Corruption could react more than a terrified look, Sabre grabbed him and tugged him harshly out of the corner.

Corruption tumbled in the air before catching himself just before he hit the floor, glaring up at Sabre.

Sabre flew down at him, the two slamming into eachother and spinning in the air.

They landed on the ground, Sabre pinned down by Corruption.

Corruption grinned with a look of triumph before that faded when he saw Sabre's smile hadn't wavered.

The fireball in Sabre's hands exploded, sending Corruption flying back and into the wall.

Corruption screeched and pressed a hand to his back, which Sabre had heard crack slightly when he hit the wall.

Sabre wanted to laugh at the pathetic Darkness, but didn't want to waste time.

He darted forward, ready to punch Corruption with a lightning-charged fist to end their short battle, but he was smacked into in the side, sending him flying back.

Sabre snarled at Soul, who was standing in front of a winded Corruption.

Sabre gave them a menacing grin but launched into battle without saying a word.

Soul held up his hands in front of his face, bracing himself for the impact.

He slid back a bit, but managed to not fall over, which Sabre had to admit was impressive.

Sabre had three options here.
1) Keep flying forward and eventually knock him over.
2) Use his fireball, lightning or earthquake ability to make him unbalanced.
Or 3) Turn and run.

Sabre almost laughed at the third option, so slammed his fist into the ground beneath them and watching with a grin as the small earthquake made Soul topple over like he had no balance in the first place.

Sabre chuckled and grabbed Soul, sending a lightning bolt through him as his hands touched his enemy.

Soul looked like he wanted to scream, and Corruption was now being held in place on the ground by Sabre simply holding him down with one leg.

Sabre grinned, about to send the killing bolt through Soul's body when a bright light appeared in his peripheral vision.

Sabre whipped around with a glare to look at who it was.
Light? Time? Anyone who he was not in the mood to see, which was everyone at the moment?

He gasped when he saw it was Other Sabre.

He wasn't fully there, as he was transparent and phased through any objects in his way.

His face was a worried look, mainly looking at Sabre but occasionally glancing at Corruption and Soul.

"Sabre." Other Sabre muttered.

"Yes?" Sabre glared at him. He had interrupted his reve--justice.

Other Sabre didn't respond immediately, just kept looking between Corruption, Soul and Sabre.
"Don't." He eventually said.

"What?" Sabre's grip on Soul loosened but didn't completely let go, and Sabre's eyes widened at Other Sabre, despite the blindfold.

"You don't need to do this." Other Sabre murmured and Sabre rolled his eyes under the blindfold.

"Oh yeah? And why shouldn't I get justice for everyone they've hurt, which isn't just Rainbow, might I add?" Sabre shook Soul like some ragdoll, ignoring the pained squeak from Soul and the judgemental look from Other Sabre.

"Your quarrel isn't with them. It's with Void.
Soul and Corruption are being puppeted, just like Rainbow was." Other Sabre stepped forward and Sabre glanced down.
"They were once regular Steves, just like Rainbow. They were forced into being Void's second-in-commands, and all those horrible things Void made so many do."

Sabre mustered up the courage to look at Soul and Corruption, before glancing back at Other Sabre.
"I...know that..
I think.
But they've committed such horrible crimes, they can't just get away with it!"

"And you think they should pay for this by death?" Other Sabre asked, watching as Sabre's annoyed expression turned to one of confusion.

"I..." He trailed off.

"Exactly." Other Sabre was now standing next to Sabre, "Now let them go. You've proved your point, that you're powerful and scary. They won't mess with you again."

Sabre glanced at Soul, who had a hopeful but still scared look.

His grip tightened.

Then loosened.

Soul dropped to the ground, managing to sit up and back up to prop himself up against the wall, dragging Corruption with him.

He shakily watched Sabre leave to defeat Void, but didn't try to stop him.

Whooooo!!
Another Chapter out!

I started Chapter 18 at around 1:20am and finished Chapter 19 at 2am on the same day!
I said in the last Chapter that I would go to sleep but the ideas kept coming and they were too good to pass up.

It's great when you think of ideas for the story and suddenly get motivation to write, even though it's at ungodly hours hahaa

This Chapter probably won't be published on the same day as Chapter 18
(I'm writing this before Chapter 18 is published)
Because I like writing at least half of the next Chapter before publishing the next Chapter as it helps get these Chapters out quicker, but sometimes I finish both of them, which is great!

Anyway, have a lovely day/night and see you next Chapter!
