Chapter 17

I'M SO SORRY I DISAPPEARED FOR SO LONG!
Life is horrible at the moment and I've been focusing on my own personal stories instead of fanfictions, but I made a long chapter to hopefully make up for it.
I also hope that I can get back into the swing of writing and publishing Chapters. I might focus on this book alone instead of any of my other books so I can actually get them done. I've been learning to focus on one thing alone to actually finish things because I've had a habit of starting to write things but never finishing them (I've had it since I was 9 lol)

I might be rewriting the first few Chapters, as there's plot holes and also just generally bad writing.
Sabre is also sort of Time's grandfather in the past Chapters, which I don't want because I was shipping them (AND I AM NOT SHIPPING A GRANDFATHER AND GRANDCHILD!)
But for now I will just be publishing new Chapters, maybe in the future I'll rewrite them. (The Chapters I'll probably will be rewriting will be from Chapter 1 up to maybe Chapter 4 (and some other Chapters after that)

Anyway, hope you enjoy this angsty Chapter! (Yes it's angsty, there's a trigger warning below. Sorry if it's too violent)

-------------

TW: Descriptive (or at least I tried to be descriptive) violence, death, fighting, breakdowns.

(Buckle up for this Chapter hehe)

---Sabre's POV---

He sighed, spreading his wings in a long stretch.

It had been almost a week since the failed rescue mission, and Sabre had been training with Other Sabre at night since then.

He had learnt a few new things, and had practiced others.
He could fly and hover well, and had been able to create a few hills and some animals.
His fireballs had improved, and he'd learnt how to make lightning and small earthquakes.

Sabre stepped out towards the Rainbow Hub, his wings curled up on his back.
He seemed to just be casually walking to the Hub, but he had a clear idea on his mind.

Sabre glanced around, shivering at the chill in the morning air. Other Sabre had questioned why he'd wanted to wake up around 5am, and end the training early, and Sabre had just said he wanted to have a shorter training session.

But he was planning to get his friend back.

He had the whole idea in his head, and was confident he could stand a chance with his new powers.

Maybe he'd even be able to destroy Void and stop the Darkness once and for all.

Sabre smiled slightly as the sun rose, although it was still cold. He crouched and spread his wings, readying to take off.

"Where are you going?" A slightly accusatory voice asked from behind.

Sabre jumped with a small yelp, whipping around to see Elemental with crossed arms.

"Just for a morning flight. Y'know, stretch the wings." Sabre stammered then spoke quickly, "They get stiff if they're not used for a long time."

"Mhmm..." Elemental nodded with an unsure smirk on his face, "Right..."

Sabre felt awkward leaving now, just kind of glancing between the sky and Elemental, who kept staring at him.

"Can I join you?" Elemental finally asked.

"What?" Sabre blinked, although he had heard what Elemental had said, he didn't fully understand it.

"You're going to get Rainbow." Elemental smiled slightly as Sabre stepped back in shock, "I want to help you."

"How did you know?" Sabre half-folded his wings and stepped towards Elemental.

"It's kind of obvious. You're Rainbow's best friend, you wouldn't leave him behind." Elemental paused for a second and glanced away, "If Time was in Rainbow's position, I wouldn't have been able to wait as long as you have..."

Sabre sighed. "Alright, you can come. Just don't tell anyone else I did this, especially if we can't get Rainbow back."

Elemental nodded and rushed forward with a confident grin. "I've wanted to fight Void and the Darkness for a long time! Let's go!"

Before Sabre could respond, Elemental flew into the air and Sabre had to quickly flap his wings to catch up with the Steve.

----

Sabre landed in the bushes beside Elemental, making his wings disappear for the time being.

Sabre noticed that they were in the place where the prophecy had originated.

"Where should we sneak in?" Sabre asked Elemental, before noticing he had a sword in his hand.

"Sneak in?" Elemental chuckled, clutching the sword tighter.

Sabre stared at him for a second, before Elemental darted towards the building surrounded by Darkness.

"Elemental!" He yelled, although tried to stay quiet to not alert the Darkness.
"Elemental!!" He tried again, chasing after him.

Well, there goes all of my plans of sneaking in.

The Darkness turned to stare at Elemental, who slashed at them before they reacted.

Sabre slammed into one of them before it could attack Elemental, and the two fought off the four Darkness quickly.

"What were you thinking?! You can't just charge in like that!" Sabre scolded him, and Elemental smiled at him.

"Yes, I can. It also worked!" Elemental pointed to the disintegrating figures of Darkness on the ground beside them.

"Ugh, fine. It did. But can we please sneak into the building this time?" Sabre asked with a sigh.

"Alright, alright." Elemental groaned, before walking towards the building.

The building was already open, and lava trickled down from the roof.

The explanation of all the colours of the Steves had black creeping from the edges towards the centre.

Sabre gasped as he saw Soul, Corruption and Void standing in there. He reported his sightings to Elemental, who was crouched behind him.

"Can you see Rainbow?" Elemental asked, and Sabre shook his head.

"I can't see Rainbow. He might be in there, around the corner," Sabre paused to point to a wall that curved around to another part of the building, "But I'm not sure."

Elemental looked worried, and Sabre crept to the wall and shuffled along it.
"Just follow me. Quietly." Sabre muttered, "Hopefully they can't see us."

Sabre heard the three Darkness leaders talking, but he couldn't quite catch what they were talking about.

Sabre crept forward, peeking his head around the corner. Of course, at that moment, the three stopped talking for a bit.

Void turned slightly and Sabre had to duck back. Elemental was behind him, looking curious.

"There's some sort of machine there. I don't know what it's for." Sabre whispered as the two backed up, "I think Void made some sort of machine, and Rainbow might be in it but I couldn't see it fully."

After an awkward pause, Sabre sighed. "We're going to have to confront them. If Rainbow is in trouble, we can't just let them go, right?"

Elemental nodded with a solemn expression. "Right." Was all he said.

"I really don't like this, man." Sabre groaned quietly, forming a small fireball in his hand.

The two then rushed out.

"Void!" Sabre yelled, and Void whipped around with a slightly startled expression.

Void then regained his composure and grinned menacingly. "Oh Sabre! I'm so glad you could make it!"

"What are you all doing?" Sabre asked, then raised his voice, "What are you doing in the Temple?"

Void smirked as Sabre continued.

"This was supposed to be a sacred place, but now I'm starting to realise that maybe you created this, didn't you? It was all apart of your plan in the first place." Sabre glared at Void, "Where's Rainbow?"

Void grinned and stepped aside. "He's just behind me."

Void revealed the machine, and Sabre could only see a slight hint of orange inside.

Sabre's eyes widened and he ran forward, shoving past Soul, Void and Corruption. "No. No!"

He gasped and stopped in front of the machine, now able to fully see Rainbow standing inside. "Rainbow!" Sabre yelled, "Don't worry, you'll be okay!"

Sabre stepped forward, about to smash the glass holding Rainbow, but was pulled back by a harsh grab.

He turned to see Void grinning at him, and Sabre just shoved him back and stepped towards Rainbow again.

"Rainbow, can you hear me?!" He leapt away from Void as he spoke.

Void laughed. "I hope you can enjoy the show that's about to come, Sabre."

"Void...what are you planning on doing with Rainbow? Especially back in this Temple?" Sabre snarled, holding a fireball behind his back incase he needed to fire it, "How dare you. I knew that this was all up to you. I figured it out!" Sabre thought of all the time he had spent thinking about Void's plans.

"I figured out that you were the one that created the prophecy and that you're the original hero!" Sabre yelled, and Void only smirked.

"Sabre...Soul and Corruption...they're blocking the door." Elemental muttered, and Sabre turned to face him in a bit of horrified realization.

"Soul, Corruption, hold them in place." Void grinned.

Sabre stepped forward, "Listen, Void." He glared at Void, "You were the original hero, were you not?! How could you have fallen so far?!"

Void snarled, stepping backwards with an angry expression.

"How could you have created such despair for these people when you were the one who was supposed to protect them in the first place!" Sabre exclaimed, "How dare you create a prophecy to trick those into giving you the crystals!"

"You won't understand...I know you've heard it." Void muttered, turning a bit away.

"What are you even talking about?!" Sabre asked angrily, he then shook his head, "Just let Rainbow go!"

"Someone who's this crazy, Sabre...he doesn't need a motive." Elemental glared at Void with pure hatred.

"Under one dark rule, there will be no more of what you call evil." Void smiled evilly.

"Yeah, that's because it will all be evil? Right?!" Sabre stepped forward towards Void with a snarl, "Right now, there is good and bad. You're trying to take it all! You can't do that, you need to let people choose for themselves!" Sabre yelled, ignoring the lightning he knew he was accidentally causing outside.

"HAH! You think I'll listen to you?" Void laughed.

"If you won't listen to me...we'll have to fight." Sabre glared at him, firing a fireball towards the Darkness leader.

Void yelled and dodged the fireball, sending one right back.

It hit Sabre's shoulder and he stepped back.

Elemental leapt in front of Sabre, pointing his sword at Void. "Stop!" Elemental yelled, as if that would stop Void.

Void paused with a smirk, although Sabre knew that he would soon be attacking again.

Sabre snarled and stepped toward Void, debating whether or not he should make his wings appear.

"AH!" He yelled as black lightning struck him, making him stumble.

He tried to leap out of the way, but he couldn't move.

Elemental turned to stare at him, but could only move his head. His sword dropped to the ground next to him as Void grinned.

"You're both frozen." Void taunted them by walking over to them with an evil laugh.

Sabre wanted to say something, to yell at Void, but he couldn't find words.

"Now...at long last; the Crystals will be mine again." Void grinned menacingly, then an angry snarl formed on his face, "They separated from me...disgusted at me." He moved towards the machine as he spoke.

"For good reason, Void!" Sabre yelled, finally thinking of something to say.

"You are just---GAH!" Elemental started, but just turned away with an angry yell as he didn't seem to want to finish his sentence.

"Your Rainbow did a good job in my opinion though.." Void turned to smile (evilly) at Sabre.

"T-the Crystals gave up on you because they lost faith in you!" Sabre yelled angrily, but glanced at Rainbow, who still hadn't responded to anything the two groups had done.

Void stepped forward, leaning towards Sabre who wanted to lean back but couldn't.

"Well, that doesn't matter anymore. They'll be mine again." Void grinned then stepped away, walking over to a lever and pulling it before Elemental and/or Sabre could protest.

Lightning struck in the chamber Rainbow was held in and he seemed to wake up from some sort of trance he was in.
He started screaming, scratching at the glass as if he was attempting to get out.

"RAINBOW!" Sabre screamed, managing to tear himself out of the freezing magic he was stuck in, surging forward and slamming his body against the glass.

Rainbow's panicked and pained eyes locked onto Sabre as the lightning increased.

Sabre summoned a fireball and slammed it into the glass, but the glass only shuddered.

Before Sabre could do anything else, the lightning stopped and Rainbow was gone.

Sabre could barely feel himself drop to the ground, staring at the last place his best friend had been standing a second ago.

Muffled voices echoed in his ears, but he didn't respond.

Someone dragged him away from the chamber and Sabre turned to see Void grinning at him with an evil grin as Elemental tried to help Sabre stand.

Sabre pulled away from Elemental and launched himself at Void with a shriek, startling the Darkness leader.

Void didn't have time to defend himself as Sabre tackled him and slammed him into the marbled ground.

Elemental shuffled in his place, seeming unsure whether to help Sabre or to let him do this alone.

Void was trying to say something, but the only thing Sabre could hear was the roaring of blood in his ears and the memory of Rainbow's screams.

Sabre screamed himself as he grabbed Void's hood with his useable and used it to pull Void's head back and slam it into the ground again, before being kicked off the Darkness leader.

Void summoned fireballs but Sabre quickly knocked them out of his hands with his own fireballs.

Void stumbled back as Sabre approached, raising a large fireball with one hand shakily.

Then someone slammed into him from behind, another one grabbing both his arms and trying to distinguish the fireball.

Sabre tried to tug his useable arm out of their hold, wondering in a dazed confusion who was restraining him. He was able to rip his useable arm out of the person's grip, which turned out to be Soul, but he couldn't move his paralyzed arm so that was going to be annoying.

Sabre kicked at Soul's legs, dodging a few punches from Corruption but also receiving a few blows from both Steves as Soul was using his grip on Sabre's paralyzed arm to tug Sabre around.

Elemental leapt it, dragging Corruption away so Sabre could focus on Soul. Luckily, Void was still recovering from his head injuries so Soul was the only threat to Sabre right now.

Sabre's wings appeared on his back and he used one to hit Soul in the jaw, being tugged down with Soul as they crashed to the ground.

Sabre was tangled in a mess of limbs and wings, struggling to untie himself while still being held in a probably tight grip by Soul (he couldn't tell because he couldn't feel anything in that arm) while Soul was trying to get up and still keep a hold on Sabre's arm.

Then Corruption got thrown into the mix, finally knocking Soul off of Sabre and freeing his arm from that prison.

Sabre glanced back at Elemental, who seemed a little surprised at how he threw Corruption but was still impressed.

Sabre realised his vision was blurry from tears, but couldn't exactly lift up the blindfold to wipe them away mid-fight, so he just tried to blink them away as he prepared for a second wave from Corruption and Soul, who were now bickering about falling on eachother.

Soul jumped up first, running at Sabre but just passing by him and fighting an unprepared Elemental instead.
Corruption then flew at Sabre, looking like he was trying to tackle him but instead got tackled by Sabre.

Void seemed to have recovered as he was now preparing a big fireball to fire at Sabre.

Sabre leapt out of the way and Corruption had to scramble to follow him to avoid the fireball.

"Sabre!" Elemental yelped, his voice cutting through the muffled sounds that Sabre had been hearing for the past few minutes.

Sabre glanced up to see Elemental being held still by Soul as Void approached with a fireball.

Sabre glanced at Corruption, who was backing away from Sabre, before darting towards Void.

Void turned and fired the fireball at Sabre instead, who didn't have time to block it.

He screeched and fell onto the floor, smoke being the only thing he could smell and see at that moment.

Someone picked him up and started dragging him out, and Sabre stumbled to his feet as he regained sight.

Elemental had obviously broken out of Soul's grip and was now helping Sabre away from the group. Sabre was about to rush back into battle when Elemental grabbed his shoulder.

"Don't! We can't fight them, not now. You're vulnerable, you just saw your best friend die in front of you!" Elemental argued and the emotions Sabre had been struggling to hold back threatened to rush back to his main focus.

"I..." Sabre started but realised Elemental was right. If they were going to fight them, they needed to be at full emotional strength and have all the help they could get.

Sabre started to back up, readying a fireball in his good hand and glaring at the three Darkness leaders as the two backed out.

"Yeah, that's right. Run away like a coward!" Void called with a grin.

Sabre's glare hardened but he forced himself to not run back into a fight.
"At least we're leaving better off than you!" He nodded to the blood soaking the back of Void's hood, Soul's scratches on his arms and face, and Corruption's black eye and slightly burnt arm.

Void snarled but didn't move as Sabre and Elemental left.

----

As soon as they got back to the Hub, Sabre collapsed to the ground and started sobbing.

Elemental looked a bit worried and surprised, as if he didn't know what to do to comfort Sabre.

So he went and got Time.

Light came along to, as he was visiting Time about Sabre and Elemental being missing. Elemental had explained basically to them that Sabre wasn't doing great because a fight had happened and now Rainbow was gone forever.

That's what Sabre had heard Time repeating questioningly as the three approached where he had been refusing to move from the middle of the Hub.

"Oh! Oh, Sabre..." Time gasped and rushed over to Sabre.

Sabre glanced up at him but didn't respond.

Time hugged Sabre, who turned and continued to sob into Time's shoulder. Time rubbed circles on Sabre's pack to calm him down as Light and Elemental watched sadly, not knowing what to do.

"He killed him. He killed Rainbow." Sabre sobbed, words quiet and shaky. Time nodded but didn't speak, and Light turned away with a sad sigh as if trying not to show any emotion to the group.

"He killed him." Sabre muttered again, trying to ignore the replays of Rainbow's death in his mind as he cried.

But he only knew one thing.

He would get his revenge.
