Chapter 28

TW: Violence

Sumi slowly opens her eyes, the light peeking through the curtains blinding her. She stretches, looking around the room.

Ah, so it wasn't a dream?

Sumi is lying in Jennie's bed, looking around groggily. Her head is pounding, aching from all the built-up and spilled-out emotions. Why does crying cause pain? She is already in pain everywhere else, why does crying have to bring her pain too?

"Good morning," Sumi looks up to find Jennie leaning against the door, already dressed for the day. She is wearing grey suit pants, a white blouse, and a matching grey blazer.

"How are you feeling?" She asks, moving towards the bed and sitting beside her. Sumi sits up, rubbing her eyes.

"I feel like shit," Sumi supplies, looking at the bemused Jennie.

"You look like shit," Jennie responds. Sumi grabs a pillow and hits Jennie with it. Jennie laughs in response, but the joy doesn't reach her eyes. She is obviously still concerned for Sumi's well-being.

So am I, Sumi frowns at herself.

"Are you going to be okay if I go to work?" Jennie asks, "It was a rough night... I'm worried about leaving,"

"It's okay," Sumi smiles.

"Well, it's not like you'll be alone for long," Jennie smirks, causing Sumi to raise her eyebrows.

"What do you mean?"

"Well... I may or may not have told Hoseok about what happened and he has taken the week off and is on his way here," Jennie responds, laughing nervously.

"Jennie..." Sumi groans, "I can take care of myself you know,"

"I know," Jennie sighs, "I just don't want you to be alone. Plus, once I told Hoseok I couldn't convince him otherwise,"

"That's fair," Sumi chuckles, "I hope he isn't too..."

"Emotional? Pushy? Concerned?" Jennie supplies.

"I hope he doesn't coddle me, that's all," Sumi smirks. Sumi and Jennie both know what Hoseok is like when it comes to emotional pain. He used to coddle everyone that was going through anything. It's like he wants to wrap them up in bubble wrap and keep them in a safe bubble away from all turmoil.

Well, that's how he was before...

"It'll be fine, don't worry," Jennie giggles, "Namjoon will arrive before I finish work as well,"

"Oh?" Sumi frowns, "Does he know?"

"Of course," Jennie smiles, "He is pretty concerned, but he promised not to mention anything to Yoongi just yet,"

Sumi nods calmly. She's glad Jennie has thought of everything. The last thing she needs is Yoongi wanting to come to her rescue.

"He will find out though..." Jennie mumbles, but Sumi ignores her, climbing gently out of the bed.

"I think I need to have a shower," Sumi smiles at Jennie who sighs.

"Alright, I'll see you this afternoon. Hoseok will be another 30 minutes, okay?"

"Okay," Jennie stands up and Sumi pulls her in for a hug, "Thank you,"

"It's okay, I'll see you later,"

"Okay," Sumi smiles as she lets Jennie go. She watches her leave the room, closing the door behind her. She hears the front door close not long after.

I'm all alone...

Sumi pushes down the rising panic as she heads to the shower, wanting to freshen up. She showers quickly, changing into sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt.

KNOCK, KNOCK...

Sumi jumps up at the sound of the door. She peers through the peephole and smirks as she sees Hoseok eyeing the peephole himself. She steps back and opens the door, beaming at the scruffy-haired man before her. Hoseok is wearing ripped jeans, a simple white t-shirt, and a jersey. He smiles, holding up a bag of goodies.

"Hey, Sumi," He beams, "I bought ice cream, popcorn, chips and soju,"

Sumi chuckles, opening the door for him. After he has finished taking his shoes off, they head to the lounge room.

"Yah," Sumi smirks, "What if I was planning on working today?"

Hoseok turns to her surprised, looking her up and down.

"Do you need to be sober to write?" He asks.

"Well..." Sumi shakes her head, chuckling, "I guess not,"

"Good," Hoseok grins, "Plus, I want to watch this show of yours,"

Sumi cheers, grateful for the distraction, as they settle down on the lounge, turning on the streaming website that is streaming Sumi's show.

After 6 episodes of drama and tension, Sumi grabs the remote and presses pause.

"Why did you do that? I want to see more!" Hoseok whines.

"We have been sitting here for almost 7 hours dude," Sumi chastises him, "Namjoon is going to be here soon and we need to get up and stretch,"

"Fine," Hoseok rolls his eyes, getting up and stretching. He mumbles something about 'mothering him' before sliding back onto the lounge. Sumi puts her hand on her uninjured hip, trying to hold back her laughter.

"Hoseok," Sumi says firmly, "Go get some water or something. I need to go toilet,"

"Rookie," Hoseok huffs, getting up again.

When Sumi gets back she finds Namjoon sitting beside Hoseok, chatting animatedly about his new album.

"It's going to be epic! We're trying this new style called – oh!" Namjoon looks up, "Hey, Sumi, how are you?"

"I'm good, Namjoon. Hoseok has been great company," she responds as she takes her seat beside Hoseok.

"She's a rookie K-drama viewer Namjoon," Hoseok scoffs, "She had to go toilet and stretch after 6 episodes,"

"Pft," Namjoon smirks, "Rookie mistake,"

"Hey!" Sumi frowns as Namjoon and Hoseok burst out laughing.

"Want to watch with us?" Hoseok asks, gesturing to the paused clip on the screen.

"Sure," Namjoon leans back, getting comfortable, "I've already seen it, but it's an awesome drama,"

They all settle down, continuing the series.

This... I missed this. Sumi smiles to herself, glancing at Namjoon and Hoseok happily.

Sumi's phone vibrates again, reminding her of the unread messages she is intentionally ignoring. She decides to pull it out, biting her lip.

KOOK: Let me know when you get there.

KOOK: Your mum is ignoring me. What's going on?

KOOK: Don't tell me you lied to her.

KOOK: Babe...

KOOK: You're not with your mum, are you?

KOOK: Sumi, if you don't respond and I have to come find you...

KOOK: Don't do anything you'll regret.

KOOK: You're with him, aren't you?

KOOK: I'll find you, Sumi.

Sumi freezes, reading the messages again and again.

He knows where Jennie lives... What if he comes here?

"Sumi," Hoseok whispers, gently taking her phone from her hands.

"Hoseok..." Sumi reaches to take it back, but he passes it to Namjoon, who puts it in his pocket.

"Don't do this to yourself Sumi..." Hoseok reminds her.

"What if he comes here?" Sumi whispers.

"That's why we're here," Hoseok smirks, "I'm a detective, Sumi. He won't try anything, don't worry,"

Sumi nods, turning back to the drama. She feels a little better, but she can't help worrying.

It's okay... it'll be okay...

. . . . .

"It'll be okay," Jennie grins, her arm linked with Sumi's, "Plus, this time we can hang out for longer,"

"Not too long," Namjoon reminds Jennie, "You have work early tomorrow,"

"Yeah, yeah, I know," Jennie waves her hand in Namjoon's direction, "Plus, you need these little distractions,"

Sumi nods in agreement, looking up at the Korean BBQ sign. Surely it'll be fine, right?

"Yoongi is already inside saving our spot," Hoseok pipes up, putting his phone away. Sumi looks at Namjoon anxiously. He pats his pocket, right where her phone is.

"Enjoy your night, Sumi," Namjoon mumbles, "If you need it, I'll give it back. But I can't have you focusing on those texts,"

"Did you look at them?" Sumi asks nervously.

"Of course not," Namjoon scowls, "But he has been messaging you, hasn't he?"

Sumi doesn't respond, looking away. Of course, she shouldn't be reading his threatening messages. But what if he's found her? What if he messages her that he's on his way and that's her only warning?

Sumi pushes her thoughts aside, following Jennie to their seats.

"Welcome!" Yoongi beams proudly, "Everyone take a seat!"

Sumi ignores Yoongi's obvious enthusiasm for the situation, letting the others sit first. Yoongi is at the head of the table, wearing black jeans and a black shirt. To his right is Hoseok, still wearing what he was wearing all day, to his left is Namjoon, wearing baggy grey pants with a baggy plain shirt. Jennie is next to Namjoon, wearing a casual green crop top and high-waisted shorts. Sumi sits beside Hoseok, wearing black cargo pants with straps hanging from them and a tight black crop top.

Jennie orders the food and drinks, which arrive quickly.

"So," Yoongi leans forward, "How long are you staying out tonight?"

Sumi doesn't respond, looking to Hoseok for help. Hoseok smiles at Sumi and begins filling Yoongi in on the situation. Yoongi stares at Sumi with a blank expression, but his eyes give away the internal battle he is having. Anger? Happiness? Concern? Yoongi's brain can't decide.

"I'm glad... I mean..." Yoongi frowns, "I'm glad you're staying with Jennie?" Yoongi says questioningly, looking to Namjoon to ensure he's saying the right thing. Namjoon chuckles, nodding.

. . .

Yoongi can't contain his excitement. He wants to jump up and cheer, pull her into a hug, kiss her, everything. But he also wants to jump up and hunt down that jerk. He bounces his leg nervously, giving Sumi quick glances every few seconds. Hoseok had explained a brief summary, but then he quietly explained the more specific details, to not remind Sumi of the incident. Yoongi is angry, no, he is livid. How could that jerk do that to her? What happened to him?

I'll kill him.

Sumi looks relaxed, yet anxious. She keeps glancing at Namjoon, fiddling with the straps on her pants nervously.

In all the excitement, Yoongi can't help but feel comfortable and confident in this environment with her. Of course, he's not expecting anything from her. As much as he longs to hold her and be with her again, he knows that won't happen anytime soon. Just being here for her like this, as her friend, is enough for Yoongi.

Even if it's just for a little while, he can deal with that. As long as she is happy.

She will be happy, once he's out of the picture, Yoongi frowns, pushing aside the thought. Every time he thinks of Jungkook he wants to punch something.

As much as it hurt seeing Sumi move on with Jungkook, Yoongi would have been fine after a while. But knowing he's hurting her drives him insane.

Yoongi turns to Hoseok to talk about his new album, anything to distract him from his own thoughts. Instead, he finds Hoseok looking over Yoongi's shoulder out the window behind him, his face pale, and his jaw slack with horror.

No one else has noticed Hoseok's behaviour, so Yoongi follows Hoseok's gaze. There, standing out the front, looking down at his phone with a frown on his face, is the one person Yoongi didn't want to see.

Jungkook.

Yoongi spins around, making eye contact with Hoseok. Namjoon turns to them, frowning.

"What's wrong?" Namjoon asks, bringing Sumi and Jennie's attention to them.

"J-Jungkook..." Hoseok murmurs, pointing out the window. Sumi stands up, just in time for Jungkook to look up and make eye contact with her.

"Give me my phone," Sumi asks Namjoon urgently. He passes her phone over, which she takes, quickly looking through the messages.

KOOK: So you're not at Jennie's place? Not surprising...

KOOK: Are you out drinking again?

KOOK: I'm going to the BBQ place. If I find you there...

Sumi shows everyone the picture Jungkook took of the back of Yoongi's head, Hoseok, and Sumi.

Sumi has become really pale, her hands shaking slightly.

Before Jungkook can even begin heading inside, Yoongi jumps from his seat, rushing to the entrance Jungkook is standing by.

"YOONGI!" Namjoon calls out, panic in his voice, "YOONGI DON'T"

No... Yoongi glowers as he turns the corner, spotting Jungkook not too far from the door, Not this time.

"Yah!" Yoongi yells, catching Jungkook's attention. Jungkook looks up, mirth dancing in his eyes.

"Hey, Yoongi," Jungkook says casually, "What's up?"

"What's up?" Yoongi scoffs, pushing Jungkook away from the entrance, "What do you mean what's up? huh? Are you stupid?"

"Yoongi, don't," Namjoon grabs Yoongi's arm, holding him back. He must have followed Yoongi out. Jungkook is standing a few feet away, completely unfazed by Yoongi's push, smirking.

"What's wrong?" Jungkook asks innocently, "I'm only here to see my girlfriend,"

"She's not your girlfriend you psychopath!" Yoongi yells, tugging on Namjoon's grip.

"Oh? Is that so?" Jungkook pretends to contemplate, "I don't remember her breaking up with me? I don't know what you were told but, she's still taken,"

"Fuck off," Yoongi chuckles darkly, "You're crazy,"

"Jungkook..." Everyone turns to see Sumi, Hoseok, and Jennie exiting the BBQ place.

"Sumi," Jungkook grins, "I've missed you... where have you been?"

"Jungkook you need to leave," Sumi says firmly, her hands shaking slightly. Seeing her so scared is making Yoongi angrier. He turns, glowering at Jungkook, who only has eyes for Sumi. He is looking at her in confusion.

"I'm sorry," Jungkook chuckles, "but, I've been looking for you for the past 24 hours because you never turned up to your parent's house... why are you asking me to leave?"

Jungkook starts to move towards Sumi, but Yoongi steps in front of him, stopping him in his tracks.

"Don't. You. Fucking. Dare," Yoongi breathes.

"Or what?" Jungkook mumbles darkly, turning his dark eyes to Yoongi.

"Or you'll regret it," Yoongi smirks, using his own words against him.

Jungkook's expression changes, becoming darker and darker. His true intentions... his true self... coming to the surface.

Suddenly, he lunges at Yoongi, knocking him to the ground. Sumi, Hoseok, and Jennie gasp. They struggle for a moment before Yoongi manages to bring his leg up and knee him hard in the back. Jungkook gasps, falling to the side. He manages to get to his feet, stumbling away. Yoongi doesn't give him time to get his footing before he punches him right in the jaw with all his strength. Yoongi stumbles slightly as Jungkook falls to the ground. Before Yoongi can do anything else, Jungkook kicks out, hitting Yoongi in the shin. Yoongi falls to his knees, giving Jungkook the opportunity to get up and punch him in the face, knocking him to the ground again.

As Jungkook moves to climb on top of him, Hoseok lunges at him, pinning him to the ground. Jungkook struggles, kicking and bucking to get him off. He manages to pull free and punch Hoseok's face, which doesn't faze Hoseok at all. Hoseok easily flips him over, pinning his hands behind his back.

"Jungkook, you are under arrest for assaulting Yoongi and an officer of the law," Hoseok murmurs, wiping the blood from his busted lip before reading Jungkook his rights. Jungkook stops struggling as if just realising Hoseok's authority.

"Fuck," He grunts under Hoseok's weight.

"Yoongi, are you okay?" Namjoon asks, taking Yoongi's hand and bringing him to his feet.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Yoongi murmurs gruffly, glancing up at Sumi. She stares back at him blankly. But Yoongi can see the fear and concern in her eyes. He looks away, knowing she is upset by his actions.

Well, I've royally messed up this time...

"Are you okay?" Yoongi looks up at Sumi's voice, a little confused. Sumi steps forward, concern etched on her face.

"Yeah... Y-Yeah I'm okay," Yoongi stutters, smiling at her, "Thank you," Yoongi rubs the back of his neck awkwardly.

"I'm sorry..." Sumi mumbles, a tear rolling down her cheek, "Are you hurt anywhere?"

Yoongi rubs his tender jaw gingerly, trying to not put any pressure on the leg Jungkook kicked, and laughs.

"Yeah, yeah, it's all good, barely a scratch," He chuckles, trying not to limp. Namjoon raises his eyebrows at Yoongi but doesn't say anything.

Sumi smiles, knowing he isn't being completely honest.

"Come on, let's ask if they have anything frozen for your jaw," Sumi turns, heading back into the BBQ place.

"Okay," Yoongi says happily. Namjoon stays outside to wait for the police with Hoseok, just in case, as Jennie and Yoongi follow Sumi inside.

She thanked me... that is all Yoongi can think about. His jaw aches, his knee is hurting, and his back probably has bruises everywhere. But Yoongi is cheerful, happily following Sumi inside, ignoring Jennie's knowing look.

. . . . .

"Name?"

"Jeon Jungkook,"

"Alright," The officer looks through his paperwork before eyeing Jungkook through the bars, "Says here we got assault, is that correct?"

"Yes," Jungkook responds firmly.

"Right," The officer continues reading, "Detective Hoseok doesn't want to press charges, so you are free to leave. You'll receive an official warning and a fine in the mail, understood?"

"Yes, sir,"

"And if you don't communicate payment for your fine in a month then we'll send debt collectors, understood?"

"Yes, sir,"

"Good," The officer steps forward, unlocking the overnight jail cell, "You are free to go. Don't let me catch you in here again, understood?"

"Yes, Sir,"

"Good. Your belongings are up the front with reception,"

Jungkook nods, following the officer to the reception area. He nods grimly, leaving Jungkook alone.

"Jeon Jungkook?" The receptionist asks.

"Yes, Sir,"

"Here are your things,"

"Thank you," Jungkook frowns and turns away.

He pulls on his jacket and checks his wallet and keys, before unlocking his phone. He spots a text from Sumi.

She was thinking of me?

He opens it quickly, his excitement fading.

SUMI: Jungkook, I know you don't want to hear this, but I can't do this anymore. I can't live like this. I am breaking up with you. It's over. You have a week to collect your things from my apartment.

SUMI: Goodbye, Jungkook.

Jungkook stares at the message, reading it over and over again, his chest tightening. He locks his phone and shoves it into his pocket.

You're going to pay for this, Sumi, Jungkook contemplates darkly, walking away from the police station. I'll make you live to regret this.

(A/N) Uh oh, how is Jungkook going to get revenge?

See ya tomorrow 🫰🫰🫰
