Chapter 21

TW: Violence

"Stop it!" Sumi yells as Jungkook wrestles Yoongi to the ground, yelling in anger. After a momentary struggle, he has him pinned underneath him, breathing deeply.

"What is your problem?" Jungkook breathes.

"My problem?" Yoongi scoffs, "You're the one who took someone else's girl because you couldn't date your crush,"

Jungkook glares down at him bitterly before throwing his fist back. He punches Yoongi in the jaw. His head hits the pavement painfully, making him feel dizzy.

"No!" Sumi gasps, tears falling down her face, her shaking hands over her mouth.

"I didn't steal her from you," Jungkook smirks, "You threw her away when you were done destroying her,"

"What the fuck did you say?" Yoongi wriggles under Jungkook, "Say that again... SAY THAT AGAIN YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE!" He grabs Jungkook's shirt and kicks his legs around, trying to dismount Jungkook.

After a moment, Yoongi manages to push Jungkook off, bringing his knee into Jungkook's lower back. Jungkook scrambles away, groaning in pain. As Yoongi climbs to his feet, he watches Sumi rush over and help Jungkook.

Jungkook stands by her, gently pulling her behind him. Yoongi watches them, jealousy and betrayal building inside him. But it all slowly wilts away to a deep sadness that clings to his lungs. He looks at Sumi longingly, but she doesn't share his feelings. Her eyes are cold, unforgiving pits of darkness as she glares at him. She turns her attention to Jungkook.

"Are you okay?" She mumbles, sniffling, "I'm sorry, Jungkook,"

"It's okay," Jungkook turns and smiles kindly at Sumi, "I'm sorry I arrived so late,"

"Did you call for him?" Yoongi murmurs, "Did you... seriously call for him to help you?"

"No..." Sumi blushes, "He just knows me well,"

"I came here because she wasn't answering her phone," Jungkook explains, "I assumed she was here blowing off steam,"

Yoongi scoffs and folds his arms.

"You think you know her?" Yoongi grunts, "You know nothing!"

"How long were you two dating?" Jungkook asks, "2 years, right?"

"Almost 3," Yoongi corrects.

"Well, we're not that far off," Jungkook saunters over to Yoongi, Sumi close behind him.

"Jungkook..."

"What?" Yoongi smirks, "Back for more,"

Jungkook shakes his head, moving closer to Yoongi. He glares down at him, his heavy breathing whistling over Yoongi's sweat-drenched face.

"I could beat you into the ground and you would still have this cocky attitude," Jungkook shakes his head, "Just stay away from my girl,"

Jungkook gives Yoongi one last look before turning away, Sumi following him silently. After a few metres, they begin holding hands. Sumi doesn't turn to look at him, nor does she say goodbye or acknowledge him at all.

Yoongi watches them until they are out of sight, before turning the other way.

He forces his throbbing hands deep into his jacket pockets, his heart aching with every step. He has no idea where he is going or where he wants to go. He can't go home with blood and bruises all over his face. His mother will freak out.

He decides to let his feet take him anywhere, as long as it is far away from Sumi and Jungkook holding hands.

His mind is blank as he wanders the dark streets, his leather collar up to hide his face.

Eventually, he reaches a convenience store that is still open. He automatically makes his way inside, unsure what it is he wants.

The bell dings as he enters, alerting the store clerk of his presence. The young boy behind the counter looks up and frowns, taking in Yoongi's already bruising jaw and bloody nose. Yoongi ignores him, quickly grabbing some basic medical items and water. As he passes the other drinks, he spots the alcohol. His eyes land on the soju as he begins smirking. He grabs a couple and heads to the counter.

The clerk looks at his items and back up at him. Luckily, he decides not to ask.

"D-Do you have I.D.?" The kid asks.

Yoongi quickly flashes his ID and then his bank card as the kid packs his things into a bag.

"Have a good night," The kid mumbles as Yoongi leaves wordlessly.

He continues walking, a faint goal in his mind. Once he saw the convenience store, he knew where he was and where he wants to go.

Eventually, he reaches the park. This is the park Yoongi took Sumi to. They have lots of memories here... good memories, bad memories. Memories of her lips, her shyness... everything.

As Yoongi starts to feel his world crashing down on him, he sits down on their favourite bench. This is the bench they sat on when Sumi and Yoongi first spoke about his dream to move to America.

Pushing this thought aside, Yoongi grabs pulls out his things under one of the park's only lights.

He begins working on his injuries, occasionally taking a swig from a soju bottle. Once he finishes his drink, he shoves the bloody tissues into the bag. He starts on another bottle.

He allows his mind to wander as he silently watches the environment around him.

A part of him knew it wasn't going to work. Sumi and Yoongi did have a lot of problems, and she had 3 years to dwell on them and move on. Yoongi simply clung to the fantasy of coming back to find her waiting for him, ready for him to go down on one knee and propose.

After everything he has experienced in America, you think he would have learnt that nothing is as it seems. Dreams and imagination... lies and bullshit.

"Fucking bullshit," Yoongi murmurs, popping open another bottle, "Love is fucking bullshit,"

Yoongi pulls out his phone, the vibrations finally reaching his drunken brain.

He finds messages from Jennie, Sumi and Namjoon.

He checks Jennie's message first.

JEN: The restaurant just called me... what the fuck did you do?

Yoongi closes the message and opens Namjoon's message.

RM: Where are you? Are you okay? Jennie told me what happened.

RM: Text me when you get home, okay?

Yoongi closes that one and looks to Sumi's message, his finger hovering over her name.

He opens it.

SUMI: What you did was really inappropriate and childish. I thought you had actually changed. Can we even be friends after that?

"No," Yoongi slurs, "No we can't,"

Yoongi stares at his phone, but his memories stop there.

. . . . .

"Yoongi? Yoongi are you okay?"

Yoongi blinks up at the sunlight, groaning a little. A soft hand helps him into a seated position. He looks down at the ground, rubbing the sunlight from his eyes. 4 empty soju bottles litter around the plastic bag full of bloody tissues and rubbish.

He looks to the person who woke him up to find Jennie watching him warily.

"Jennie? What are you doing here?"

"We went looking for you," Yoongi looks up to see Namjoon looking down at him, his arms folded.

"Please tell me this is all you drank last night..." Namjoon sighs as he places the empty bottles into the bag and into the nearby bin.

"Nope," Yoongi says groggily as Namjoon returns, "I had a few more drinks with Sumi,"

Jennie sighs and passes Yoongi his water bottle. He drinks what's left of it as the splitting headache hits him.

"Ahh," Yoongi groans, "My head,"

"I'm not surprised," Jennie murmurs, "Come on, let's get you home,"

Yoongi shakes his head slowly and looks up at Namjoon.

"Mum can't see me like this," Yoongi gestures to the bruises on his face. He has a cut on the corner of his lip, a dark bruise on his tender jaw, and another bruise on his cheekbone. Jennie inspects his face and tsks.

"He hit you in the right places, didn't he?"

Yoongi turns to glare at Jennie.

"Anyway," He looks up at Namjoon again, "Take me to the studio,"

"What?" Namjoon frowns, "I already called in sick for us today, so don't worry,"

"No," Yoongi stumbles to his feet, pushing away Jennie's helping hands, "I have some music to write,"

Jennie and Namjoon exchange a look before nodding.

"Alright," Namjoon smiles bitterly, "I'll message the producer and tell him we're on our way,"

Yoongi nods as he follows Namjoon and Jennie to her car, which is parked nearby.

On the ride, Yoongi pulls out his phone and checks his messages.

Ahh... kill me now...

Yoongi finds a variety of messages to and from various people. He flicks threw them, before deciding to rip the band-aid off and read some of them. How bad could his drunken texts be?

He reads the first conversation with Hoseok.

SUGA: Hey man~~~~ I missed you sooomfjfsoooo much!

HOBI: Yoongi? Are you okay?

SUGA: When can I see you? :(

HOBI: Sorry Hyung. I'm on holiday next week so we can hang out then!

Cringing, Yoongi moves on to the next text.

SUGA: Producer-nim~

VANILLA: Min Yoongi? Why are you awake? We have work in a few hours!

SUGA: I have lots of stuff to write. Just wait!

VANILLA: Okay...

VANILLA: Are you drunk?

SUGA: I just got into a fight with my Ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend.

SUGA: Of course I'm drunk!

VANILLA: You little shit... I'm going to kill you tomorrow!

SUGA: hehe xoxo

"Ahh fuck," Yoongi groans.

"What?" Namjoon looks around from the passenger seat. Yoongi wordlessly hands him his phone. Namjoon reads through the messages, his face getting paler and paler with each word.

"Yoongi," Namjoon grimaces as he throws the phone at him, "I swear to god..."

"Don't worry, I'll make up for it," Yoongi sighs, "My knees are going to hurt today..."

"Why?" Jennie asks.

"Because I'll be begging for my life to be spared," Yoongi mumbles before turning back to his phone.

He realises that he sent very similar things to both Jennie and Namjoon. When he opens the messages, he notices he sent a selfie to Namjoon at 3 in the morning.

"So... these messages..." Yoongi clears his throat, "Is this how you found me?"

"Yes and no..." Namjoon responds curtly, "Now can you look through your drunken messages in silence?"

"Yeah," Yoongi murmurs, looking down again.

He spots Sumi's name and opens the chat.

YOONGI: Hey

SUMI: What?

YOONGI: I miss you

SUMI: Where are you?

SUMI: I just called Jennie and she says she doesn't know where you are.

SUMI: Yoongi are you okay?

YOONGI: Aww... you do care.

SUMI: Where are you?

YOONGI: You remember our favourite park?

SUMI: Yes?

YOONGI: I'm drinking Soju in that park.

SUMI: You know that's illegal right?

YOONGI: So is breaking my heart, but you keep doing that.

SUMI: I've told Namjoon where you are. Go home.

YOONGI: I'm sorry for going to America.

SUMI: It was your dream.

YOONGI: I should have stayed and been with you. I'd rather you over this life.

YOONGI: I want to turn back time and stop myself from leaving.

YOONGI: I want to just be an underground rapper.

YOONGI: Why did I go?

SUMI: Your ambitions are more important than a toxic relationship.

SUMI: Go home, Yoongi.

YOONGI: I love you.

SUMI: Yoongi!

YOONGI: Do you love me?

YOONGI: Sumi?

SUMI: No.

SUMI: Goodbye, Yoongi.

Yoongi stares down at his phone impassively. Is this what rock bottom feels like? Is this what it's like to have a one-sided love?

Is this why our first love is never our last love?

Even though he regrets sending the messages and is still cringing over his other messages, he can't stop looking at those last few messages.

Do you love me? Sumi?

No.

Goodbye, Yoongi.

Did she mean it? Has she really moved on so easily?

"We're here," Namjoon sighs, climbing out of the car.

"Have fun," Jennie smiles as Yoongi follows Namjoon.

"Thank you, Jennie," Yoongi murmurs, giving her a small smile before closing the door.

As Jennie drives off, they turn towards the building they will be working in. They look at each other desperately before slowly making their way to the front door.

Once they are within a few metres of it, a casually dressed man rushes out, glaring at them.

"I hate you so much," Namjoon says under his breath.

"YAH!" Vanilla yells.

Yoongi puts his head down and sighs.

Fuck my life.

(A/N) I don't know why, but this is my favourite chapter.

See ya tomorrow 🫰🫰🫰
