Chapter 4

Juliet exhaled deeply and licked her lips. She rubbed the rubber mask between her fingers before she placed it in front of her.

Constance watched intensely as Juliet crouched down and covered the mask with the dirt from the ground, until it wasn't visible anymore, She placed her hand on the dirt and closed her eyes. It was very early in the morning, the other Harmon's were still sleeping soundly.

"Regna terrae, cantate Deo, psallite Domino.

Qui fertis ascendit super caelum caeli ad Orientem

Ecce dabit voci suae vocem virtutis, tribuite virtutem deo."

Juliet placed both hands on the dirt before she opened her eyes and stood up.

"And?" Juliet turned to look at her.

"I don't know. I have never done this before"

"Mom?" They turned around to see Addy standing there, looking very confused. Constance's hand shot to her neck.

"Addy?" Addy laughed and ran to her mom. Constance hugged her and cried happy tears. She kept muttering 'Addy', over and over again. Juliet smiled softly at the two before she slowly moved away, back to her home. She smiled at Moira as she passed her before she walked up the stairs.

Once she reached her room she opened the door and noticed someone sitting on her bed. Tate. He sat in silence, staring at his hands. He looked up when he noticed Juliet had entered.

"Hey" Juliet smiled softly, closing the door behind her. When she turned back to Tate he was right in front of her and pushed her against the door. Juliet gasped, feeling him pressing against her.

"What did you do?" His lips brushed hers with every word.

"I send them away, somewhere they will can never harm anyone" Tate searched her eyes, trying to find a trace of her lying but found none.

"And why didn't you do the same to me. You know what I have done. You know and you led me stay. Why!" He barked, slamming his fist against the door. Juliet flinched before she reached up and cupped his face. His eyes softened but didn't lose their anger.

"Because I know it wasn't you. I know Tate. I have felt the darkness in the house from the moment I stepped inside. I have felt it luring me but something kept me back Tate." She smiled, tears brimming in her eyes, seeing the fear in his.

"What?" Tate asked, his voice breaking. Juliet, instead of answering kissed him, pouring every feeling she had when she was near him into it. All the love, desperation and helplessness. Tate's hand left the door and moved to her back. They left the door and moved onto the bed. Tate pulled away, letting air flow back into Juliet's lungs. "How long have you know?"

"Just after our first meeting. I did some research about the town and well the twins in the basement aren't helping" Tate rolled off her and exhaled deeply, a huge weight lifted off his shoulders. Juliet wiggled until she was laying against him, their exposed arms touching.

"Tate?"

"Hmm"

"Can you do me a favour" Tate rolled over so he was facing her. Juliet did the same, their noses nearly touching.

"Everything"

"Watch over Violet for me" Tate frowned. "She is my sister, and she is the only in this family that I still care for" Tate nodded and pulled her in his arms.

"I will protect her with my life"

-

Juliet sat at her dinner table, a cup of coffee in her hands. Constance sat in front of her, having invited her as a thank you for 'saving' Addy. Tate had gone off, saying he had a surprise for her but he needed to prepare something. He seemed so much happier now that he didn't have to hide anything from Juliet anymore.

"Mom?" Juliet's head snapped up, hearing Violet call, sounding very distressed. "Mommy?" Violet ran into the kitchen, her eyes landing on Constance.

"She's not here."

"Where is she? Did you hurt her?" Juliet frowned, placing her cup down.

"She didn't hurt anyone Vi, what are you talking about" Constance smiled.

"You found out about Tate, didn't you? I knew you would." Juliet sighed, standing up.

"Vi-"

"Get out of my house!" This is not happening."

"I questioned my sanity when I first found out.. But this house... this house will make you a believer. You see, Violet, we were living here when Tate lost his way. And I believe that the house drove him to it."

"What? No. That can't be real." Juliet sighed and rubbed her face.

"You're a smart girl. How can you be so arrogant to think that there's only one reality that you're able to see? I want you to meet someone." Constance took her cigarette and stood up. Violet followed her out of the door towards her home. Juliet sighed, emptying her cup in one gulp.

"Hang in there Violet" She muttered and reached over to placed her mug in the sink. A chill ran down her spine, making her look up. There stood Tate, at the doorway. He grinned. Juliet smiled and walked over to him.

"Finally done with your plan?" Tate nodded excited and took her hand. He led her up the stairs and to the attic. He stopped running and released her. Juliet stared at him but he bobbed his head, signaling her to walk. Juliet did as told and walked further into the attic. She eyed the old crates, baby crib and bride's dress.

She stopped however when something hit her foot. She crouched down and took the circular object. She turned it around in her hand before a faint whining caught her attention. Juliet placed her other hand on the floor and swung her legs out in front of her, sitting on the floor with her legs spread. She took the ball in both hands and rolled it into the direction of the noise. The ball disappeared between some boxes before it rolled back. Juliet chuckled and rolled it back again.

Tate smiled watching her before he joined her on the floor. The ball rolled back again and Juliet caught it again. "That's my brother, Beauregard" Juliet smiled and rolled the ball back.

"Hi Beau" The was a sound that resembled a giggle before there was the sound of chains rattling. Juliet frowned and got up. "Is he stuck?" She carefully pushed the boxes away and stepped towards Beau. Tate reached out to stop her, not to frighten her but she was too fast. Tate heard her gasp and closed his eyes. He had mend for her to stay at the beginning so she would see Beau. She would be frightened and leave him.

"Hi Beau" Tate's eyes snapped open and saw Juliet crouched down next to Beau. Beau watched her with fearful eyes but Juliet send him and handed him his ball back. He took it and laughed. "My, you are beautiful" Tate walked over to her.

"My mom left him here. If she hadn't he would have been taken by the services." Juliet nodded up at Tate before she gently stroked Beau's head. "We need to leave, your mom will be back soon" Juliet nodded and stood up. Beau grabbed her arm, trying to tug her back. Juliet smiled.

"Don't worry, I'll be back soon. I promise" Beau slowly released her arm and moved back to his corner.

"Do you mind if i stay a little bit longer?" Tate asked, taking Juliet's arm. Juliet shook her head.

"Go ahead, I still have tons of homework to do anyway" Tate chuckled before he crouched back to Beau. Juliet watched them with a smile before she walked away, off the crappy stairs. She stepped off them and decided she would get some lunch before going to her work. She walked to the stairs but froze, seeing an unknown man standing in front of it.

"Who are you?" The man glared at her through his glasses.

"You are not sending us away" Juliet frowned and took a step back.

"I am not going to, who are you?" The man shot towards her and grabbed her shoulders swapping positions with her. Juliet turned her head, staring down the stairs. She instantly grabbed the man's arms.

"You are not sending us away" The man repeated before he shoved Juliet. Her hold on him slipped and she stumbled down the stairs, her head hitting nearly every step. Before she had even made it down, Juliet's vision disappeared and blood dripped down her chin. She reached the bottom of the stairs with a thud. Juliet blinked once more, tying to regain her vision before a high pitched ringing made her black out. That was the last thing she heard, that and the sound of someone calling her name..

-

Juliet's eyes opened and she shot up. Her eyes rapidly scanned the room and she breathed, realising she was in her own room. She felt sore, every joint in her body stiff like she hadn't moved in moths. She blinked until her eyes fell onto the white wall to her right. She had left it white, wanting to do something to it but not knowing what. Now there was something on it, written in red paint.

'I love you'

"Tate?" She called, hoping he was the one who had written it.

"Juliet" He appeared at the end of her bed, his eyes red, like he had cried.

"Tate, wha-" Tate cut her off.

"I am sorry Juliet. I heard a tud so I came down to see what it was and saw you laying there. I patched you up the best I could and I carried you here. You haven't been unconscious long so-" Juliet's eyes remained on Tate the whole time, tears slowly building up in her eyes. Her eyes flickered from his green sweater to his brown eyes and remained there.

"I am dead, ain't I?" Tate froze mid sentence. "Please don't lie to me Tate"

"Juliet, I am so sorry. I promised myself to protect you and I failed." Silent tears ran down Tate's cheeks. "I tried to keep you alive but It was no use so I held you and" Tate choked up. "You are dead because of me so I will just leave you alone from now on. You know why I'd leave you alone? Because I care about your feelings more than mine. I love you. There, I said it - not just on the wall." Juliet sat up fully, pulling her legs underneath her. She listened in silence, knowing Tate had to get this off his chest. "I would never let anybody or anything hurt you. I've never felt that way about anyone." More tears rolled down his cheeks. He took a shaky breath and Juliet took that as a signal he was done. She send him a sad smile and held out her hand.

"Come here" Tate nodded and crawled onto her bed, over to her. She gathered him in her arms and held him tightly against her. They fell silent and Juliet gently stroked his hair.

"You lied to me before didn't you." Tate opened his eyes. "You're eyes aren't green" Tate chuckled before his eyes widen and turned around.

"How do you know?" Juliet smiled at him.

"It seems that dying isn't just a bad thing" Tate's face went grim. Juliet took his face in her hands, and brushed his tears away with her thumb. "I am not sad Tate. I am more happy than anything, now I don't have to leave you" Tate's eyes, glistered with newfound hope and something Juliet hadn't before. He slowly removed her hands and kissed her. Juliet gladly kissed back before she pulled away and stared deep into his brown eyes. Tate smiled at her before he gently pulled her down with him. Juliet wrapped her arms around him and nuzzled her face in his neck. Tate closed his eyes, enjoying the feeling of her pressed against him. Juliet doze off with the steady sound of Tate's heartbeat.
