xvii: the ticking clock

Takemitchi ended up going to a playground, sitting on the swing as he was contemplating his thoughts. He was still in complete... well, disarray. Granted, it was his own thoughts that were like that but still, it was an emotion that he was feeling at the moment. Basking in the silence underneath the moonlight in his last moments before eventually dying on the train tracks later on was one good thing he could still do.

"That's not everything, is it?"
"You're lying to us! Jump up and down!"

'So fucking noisy... even though there's someone here basking sentimentally...'

Takemitchi saw that there were three guys who were harassing a younger boy, and judging by how the two guys were demanding something from the boy, it was evident that there was money involved.

'That's... Naoto. Tachibana's brother.' Takemitchi thought in realization as he sees the kid, now known to Takemitchi as Tachibana Naoto was getting harassed by three guys.

Or to put it in his own words, three fuckers who were harassing a middle schooler.

He stood up from where he was sitting, glaring at the three guys. "Why're you pickin' on a middle school student!?"

That caught their attention, and the three guys looked at him, obviously annoyed.

"Get lost, punk."

"Punk? Ha!" They start laughing at him. "This guy thinks he's a badass!"

They still continue to laugh and Takemitchi was unamused. "Listen, I'm emotionally unstable right now," He starts, walking towards them and throws a punch at one of them. "SO SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU DUMB SHIT!!!"

Their leader falls to the ground, knocked out cold as the other two and Naoto were just staring in shock. "All you've been doing this whole time is bitch, bitch, and bitch," He walks over to where the trash cans were, finds a bottle, and breaks it in half and points the sharp-edged half that he was holding to the two remaining guys. "Get lost or I'll kick your asses."

The two guys were terrified as they grabbed their leader will shouting, "I'M SORRY!" over and over again until they were out of sight.

Takemitchi throws the bottle back in the bin before walking over to Naoto, holding his hand out. "Here, you can't stay on the ground."

He looks up at Takemitchi, hesitating a little before taking his hand so he could stand up. "T-Thanks..."

There was some silence for a minute before Takemitchi let out a sigh. "You're big enough. You should learn how to defend yourself."

"I don't like fighting." Naoto replied.

Another uncomfortable silence.

"The victims were Tachibana Naoto and Tachibana Hinata...'

"...hey," Takemitchi starts. Even he hesitated a little before sighing. "Today, twelve years from now, I fell off the station platform onto the tracks. I thought I was dead, and before I knew it... I was a middle schooler again."

Naoto just stared at him in confusion. "Like... like a time leap?"

"Probably," Takemitchi turns away from him. "Or maybe this is just some messed up dream. But at least..." He looks up into the night sky. It was a starless night, but it was a beautiful night regardless. "I got to see Hinata again..."

When Naoto was just staring in confusion, Takemitchi turns to him. "On July fourth, twelve years from now... your sister is going to die."

The look of confusion now turned into shock. Naoto felt a chill run down his spine, seeing that Takemitchi wasn't showing any sign of a joke. "At that time, you'll die along with her," He added. "Remember that date, Naoto. And protect your sister!"

Naoto was hesitant, but he nodded. "Okay, I understand." He holds his hand out. "I'll protect my sister."

Just as Takemitchi was about to shake his hand, time started to freeze. Everything was turning black and white as a cloaked figure appears between them. "Hmm. Might as well make this curse memorable." The figure lifts their scythe, aiming at their hands. "Good luck in saving the inevitable, Hanagaki Takemitchi."

With one swing, static shows and everything fades to black.

"...he's waking up!"
"Thank you, Fuyuka-san!"
"Don't thank me, thank the man that saved him!"

Takemitchi could hear voices as he opens his eyes. Wasn't he... wasn't he standing in front of Naoto? How come he was facing the light? Did the flashback already end, or was he still dreaming? Or was he already seeing the light? He didn't know.

His vision clears, and in front of him was Fuyuka from the general hospital and two policemen. "Thank goodness, you're awake!" She exclaims, sighing in relief.

"W-Where... w-where am I?" He asks shakily.

"You're in the station medical office," One of the policemen say. "You fell off the station platform onto the train tracks." He added.

Takemitchi turns over, seeing a calendar that read the words, "July 04, 2017." 'Was I... just dreaming...? But how? I was still saved in that situation!? With no injuries whatsoever!?'

"Sorry, but can I talk to him alone?"

"Of course, sir! Fuyuka-san, please let us escort you out."

Fuyuka nodded before looking at Takemitchi with a soft smile. "Really. Thank goodness that you're awake. Kokuō would miss you." She says before following the police officers out of the room.

They passed by someone wearing a dark cloak, and that someone was watching Naoto and Takemitchi intensely once they were gone. "It worked." He pulls out his pocket watch. Its hand stood at "1:00 PM".

He closes it and smirks, turning to leave. "I wonder how colorful this timeline would be~"
