xvi: the feeling of calm

Takemitchi and the rest of Mizo Middle were walking down the street with only the streetlights serving as their way back. Makoto was helping Akkun to walk while Takuya was holding Takemitchi's shoulders for fear of him lashing out again.

The blond couldn't help but feel guilty out of all this. But at least now he'll be able to blackmail Masaru when the family meeting would show up.

"Hey," Takemitchi looks up when he hears Takuya's voice. "I know what you're thinking. Don't blame yourself for this."

Takemitchi looks down as the silence was starting to consume them. The only thing being heard were the sounds of cars and the occasional train if they happen to pass under a train track. When they pass by another one, the wheels of the train were loud that they resembled gears swirling around in his head.

That's when he remembered something.

"...along with his older sister who also lives Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 26-year-old Tachibana Hinata."

'The Tokyo Manji Gang... her death, twelve years from now...'

He pauses his own thoughts, and he sighs inwardly. '...not that me knowing will do me any better.'

"Hanagaki-kun, you're definitely going to succeed!"

A glimpse of Hinata appears in his mind.

"Guys," Takemitchi calls out to them as he carefully gets out of Takuya's hold. "I need to be somewhere!"

"Uwah?! Hey, Takemitchi!" Takuya calls out as Takemitchi runs off in a different direction. He was about to follow him but Akkun puts a hand in front of Takuya, stopping him from going any further. Yamagishi notices Takuya's confusion, and he nods. "He probably needs someone else right now, and that someone isn't going to be us."

Akkun nods. "There's someone else who has a part of his heart, you know."

The apartment complex was quiet, except for the sounds of music and the occasional thumping coming from the floors above.

Tachibana Hinata was alone in the living room, finishing up her school work. She was just about to answer one last question when she heard the buzzer. She stood up, walking towards the door. "Yes?"

"Uh-"

"Eh? Hanagaki-kun?" Hinata was surprised. She hadn't seen Takemitchi for the rest of the day, and it was already this late.

"Ah... yeah."

Hinata fumbles a little with the lock before opening the door, seeing the blond standing in front of her with bruises all over his face and arms. "Hanagaki-kun! Did you get into another fight? You shouldn't go fighting all the time, you know?" She scolded him now. Hinata was more than worried whenever she saw bruises all over Takemitchi. But what surprised her more was that Takemitchi was silent. "You guys just fought last week over small stuff! Are you okay?" She visibly winces at seeing his state. "That looks painful. Did you disinfect it already? You're swollen all over the place... let me just get the first aid kit---"

Hinata was about to walk back inside when Takemitchi held her wrist, as if telling her to not go. "Hey, I really need--" She turns to him, and she was shocked that... that Takemitchi started tearing up.

'He... he always looks like this whenever he'd get into fights...'

Hinata didn't mind patching up Takemitchi in the late hours of the evening. It was somehow something only she could do as his girlfriend. Eventually, she ended up patching him up again, only this time, they did it outside of her apartment rather than inside.

"Why do you always get hurt...?" She mumbled quietly as she was putting some disinfectant. She ignores Takemitchi hissing out in pain as she puts on another plaster. "Aren't you getting tired of it?"

Takemitchi let out a quiet scoff. "I was. Twelve years ago."

Hinata looks at him, confused. "Twelve years ago?"

"It's nothing," Takemitchi let out a chuckle. "Anyway... I'm glad I met you."

Hinata was taken aback. "Eh?" She stares at him for a little bit before letting out a small giggle. "I saw you yesterday, I saw you today, and I'll see you tomorrow. So don't start saying that so suddenly," She cups his cheeks gently. "I'm your girlfriend, you know?"

Takemitchi could only stare into her eyes for a little while before looking away. "Actually... I'll die ten years from now. This is all just a flashback, after all..." He chuckled weakly at that, sensing that Hinata had already let go of his face.

Hinata had concerned look. "Dead...?" She shook her head. "You won't die."

"Huh? Why not?"

"Why not?" Hinata grabbed another plaster, putting it on his face. "Because you're strong."

Takemitchi looked at her in disbelief. "Strong? Me?" He points at himself.

Hinata shook her head, smiling. "Let's say you die ten years from now... but you're still with me ten years from now, are you?"

Takemitchi stayed silent, looking down at the ground. "Unfortunately... I'll be even more worthless then..."

Hinata cups his cheeks again, making him look at her. "Then be a man, and be with me ten years from now."

"...why did you decide to go out with me?"

Hinata blinked, feeling her face heat up. She smiles a little, letting go of his face. "I'm going home. See you tomorrow."

Hinata doesn't look back as she walks back into her building, and then once back into her apartment, she closes the door, leaning against the wall.

"...why did you decide to go out with me?"

"Takemitchi-kun... you can be really dense sometimes..." Hinata muttered quietly, her face flushed red.
