Chapter 21

The guys quickly finish styling their hair, and we get in a huddle and pray. "God, help us put on a great show. Let Your light shine through us. Help us to lead others to You. Thank you for constantly showing us Your love, even when we didn't deserve it. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen," Alan prays. We all echo back 'amen's as the huddle breaks.

I hug each of them and watch them run on stage. They sing Top Of The World, and they kill it! I say s backstage singing and dancing along.

Right before, Outta My Mind, Chad motions to me to come on stage. I shake my head on focus on The Stamper. I'm happily dancing along, when Joey stops to make an announcement.

"Guys, our friend Mia is on your with us. Would you like to meet her?" The crowd goes nuts. Alan comes over to me, and I hop on his back as he runs on stage.

"We're gonna sing a special song, with this special girl," Caleb exclaims. I hear the intro to Love You Like The Movies begin playing. I giggle while Joey and I Stamper across the stage. Then, Caleb joins me in the worm. On the bridge, I attempt to sing as high as Chad, but fail miserably. Alan then, gives me the honor of asking the guys if they want to do a key change.

"Give it up for Mia!" Chad yells, as the crowd chants my name. He puts his arm around me, and traps me in his sweaty embrace. Alan, Caleb, and Joey give me sweaty hugs too. Then, I leave the stage.

"I wanna get serious now!" Alan calls into the microphone. The crowd quiets down, aware that it's time for Alan's sermon. I grab a stool, drag it on stage, and sit next to Alan.

He smiles at me, "Hey smiley," he whispers as he launches into his sermon. There's not a dry eye in the entire building. Even Chad is trying to blink back tears.

"God brought me out of my rut, and He can and will do the same for you," he says picking up his guitar. Where The Light Is, he sings it just like he did the day I showed him my scars.

"If anybody wants delivered from depression, shame, regret, fear, or worry I strongly encourage you to come up here. We'll pray with as many of you as we can," Alan says. The recorded version of Can't Get Over You plays quietly in the background, as people of all shapes and sizes come to the front of the room to pray. I crouch down by my stool to say a prayer of my own.

As I finish my prayer, I feel a hand on my back. I look up and see Alan. I turn and hug him, he kisses my forehead. "Kiddo, four people just got saved, he whispers in my ear. "God is powerful," I nod. He grins, "I know, honey, everyday I see Him perform a great work in you." My cheeks get warm, and he whispers one last thing to me, "You're gonna do great things in life, Mia."

They finish the show and promise to meet people and sign autographs in twenty minutes. "You guys killed it!" I exclaim, as they come backstage. Chad nods, "Thanks little sis, they seemed to like you too." Caleb agrees, "Yeah kiddo, you were a hit!"

"Promise you'll do crazy stuff with us at every show?" Alan asks. I nod, "Well, if I say no I'll be forced into it anyways." Chad laughs, "She knows us so well, guys."

"Yet you guys don't even know my middle name," I laugh. Caleb shakes his head, "That is a mean trick to play on your besties."

"Who ever said you guys were my besties?" I ask, raising a brow. "Come on homie! Admit that you love us!" Joey exclaims. I shake my head, "No."

"Now Mia, the Bible says 'Obey those who have the rule over you.' And you aren't obeying," Chad says. I shrug, "I act older than you sometimes Mr. Wick!" He shakes his head, "No you don't!" I nod, "Yes I do!"

"Okay okay okay okay okay, woah hold it," Alan says, stepping between us. "Sorry Chad," I sigh, "that was just me being the bigger person and apologizing first." Chad shakes his head, and tackles me to the ground, "Sorry baby sis, but this what you deserve!"

"Joey! Caleb! Alan! Somebody!" I exclaim, pretending to be in actual pain. "Oh shut up, I wasn't actually hurting you," Chad sighs. "BUT I CAN'T SHUT UP!" I exclaim.

"Chadwick, meet and greet, come on," Caleb says, escorting Chad out of the room. "Would you like to come with us, love?" Joey asks. I shrug, "I don't know."

"Come on, kiddo, you'll love it," Alan says. I sigh, "Fine, I'll come." I follow them to a room, where there is a line of friends. "Hey peeps, can Mia ho us out at this M&G?" Joey asks. The crowd cheers. "I guess that's a yes then, kiddo," Caleb says to me.

Pastor Reid brings out five chairs, and we all sit behind the table. Fans come and shake hands, hug, and get photos with the guys. A few girls are really emotional and tell them things like I did on my CD. They greet these girls with open arms and wrap them in warm hugs. I smile watching them do their thing.

A few girls start talking to me. They all seem very nice, and we exchanged numbers so we can stay in touch.

After they meet all the fans, we haul everything back out to the bus. "Great show boys!" Jeff exclaims, "Saw you too, Miss Mia, you looked great!" We thank him, and quickly put all the instruments away.

"So this is our life for the next few months?" I ask. Chad nods, "Yup, get used to it." I grin, "I think I could."

"Mia, Josh and your mom wanted you to call them tonight," Alan reminds me. "You got it dude!" I exclaim, pulling my phone out of my pocket and dialing Josh's cell.

"Hey sweetie!" He answers. I nod, "What up bro?" He laughs, "So you're feeling better?" I nod again, even though he can't see me, "Yeah. I'm on some meds. My allergies are acting up." He chuckles again, "Tis the season."

There is a few seconds of silence and he speaks again, "Your mom's really worried." I reply, "Yeah, I know. This is the longest I've been away since daddy died." I can tell he's nodding, "I know hon, hopefully you can come home soon. But you are having fun right?"

"Yeah, the guys are great dudes who really care about me. They've made me feel at home," I tell him. "That's awesome, kiddo. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself. How's the school coming?" He asks. "Okay. We're doing bus school as you know. We're on tour, and there's a show in Missouri, Alan said you guys should come," I inform him. "Nothing in this world can stop us," he promises. I grin, "Thanks Josh, I really miss you."

"Miss you too, babe. Can't wait til that Missouri show! When is it?" He inquires. I shrug, "Give me a sec." I put the phone on my shoulder.

"When's the Missouri show?" I ask. "The 19th," Chad replies. I mouth a thank you and tell Josh the date. "That's like 5 days away. Are there still any tickets?" Josh asks. "It doesn't matter, you four are getting in for free," I tell him. "Okay princess, I've gotta go. Love you babe."

I nod, "Love you too Josh. Tell the others the same." There's a few minutes of silence before his response, "I will Mia, bye." The line clicks dead, yet I still hold the phone to my ear, hoping to hear his familiar voice again.

"Mia-" Joey says, but stops himself thinking I'm on the phone, "Sorry." I pull the phone away from my ear and shake my head, "You're fine." He grins, "Okay. Just wanted to ask you if you're hungry. Chad's gonna get takeout." I shake my head, "I'm good."

He raises an eyebrow, "Really? You okay, love?" I nod, "Yeah dude, I'm fine. Promise." He nods and leaves. If only I wasn't so afraid to tell him how broken I am.
