Chapter 16
"Mia, Mia honey, you gotta wake up now. Please," a soft voice pleads. "Ugh. Five more minutes," I groan. "No, honey, now. We gotta leave soon, Mia," the same voice urges. I sigh, "Okay."
I sit up in bed, stretch, and rub my eyes. "What time is it?" I mumble. "It's 9:00, bro," Chad says. "Woah, are we leaving this hotel already?" I ask. Alan nods, "Yeah honey. We're going to eat breakfast downstairs first." I nod, "Yokay."
I slip my hair into a bun, and pull on some Ugg boots. "Okay, I'll meet you guys downstairs," I say, leaving the room. "Okay Mia, be careful!" Alan says, and I close the door.
I take the elevator downstairs, and walk to the lounge where breakfast is. I see Caleb and Joey seated casually on a sofa.
"Good morning fellas," I chirp, popping a bagel in the toaster. "Hey kiddo, sleep well?" Caleb asks. I nod, "Yep. How 'bout you guys?" Joey grins, "We were fine, love."
I put some strawberry cream cheese on my now finished bagel, and sit down next to Joey. He droops his arm over my shoulder. "You survived a night with Chad! Congratulations!" He exclaims, laughing. I grin as Alan and Chad enter the lounge.
"Hey hey hey guys!" Chad says, quite possibly too loud. "Chadwick, this is a public place!" Joey whispers, frantically. "Let's eat guys, Jeff is waiting," Alan says, laughing.
We all quickly scour the breakfast bar, and eat various things. After stopping at the rooms, and getting dressed, we're ready for checkout.
We walk back outside and board the bus. "Hey, y'all are looking awfully smily this mornin," Jeff says, his big voice bellowing.
"Hey Jeff," I smile, following Alan into the bus. "Well if it isn't Miss Mia. How are you, little lady?" He asks, grinning. I nod, "I'm good, Jeff."
We all put our things in our bunks, and sit down. "So whaddya we do now?" I ask, nonchalantly. "We can play a board game," Caleb suggests. "We didn't bring any, did we?" I ask.
Chad reaches into his backpack, and pulls out Monopoly. "Really, Chad, really?" Joey asks Chad, who proceeds to put him in a headlock.
"You carry Monopoly in your backpack?" I ask. He laughs, "Yeah I do. Watch your back, girl, or you'll be the next person in one of my famous headlocks." I shake my head, "Nah, you'd never do that!"
"Wanna bet?" He asks, launching himself away from Joey, and landing on the bunk next to me. "I ain't scared of you, Graham," I growl.
"Technically it's 'I'm not scared of you, Graham'," Caleb corrects me. "Shut up, Grimm," I sigh, waiting for Chad to make his move.
He grasps me, and soon I'm in one of his headlocks. He laughs for a minute, knowing he has victory. Soon, Chad's arm is removed from my neck. I look up and see Alan has tackled him to the ground.
I clap, "Yay! Go Alan!" Alan chuckles, "Couldn't let this clown hurt you, pretty girl." I blush, "Thanks Al." He smiles, "Don't sweat it, kid. I've got your back." I nod, "And I've got yours, Powell."
"You guys are sweet. Now, Alan, please remove your knee from my spine," Chad groans. Alan does, but instructs Chad to apologize to me. He turns to me with a very serious look on his face.
"I'm deeply sorry Mia," he says. I nod, "Thanks Chad." He shakes his head, "No I wasn't done. I'm deeply sorry, Mia, that you're such a silly, little weirdo."
"Hey! Chadwick Matthew Graham, that is very offensive. I'm not a silly, little weirdo. You're a jerk face," I remark. Joey leans over and high fives me, "This is why I love you so much!" I grin, "Thanks Jo-Jo."
"I'm nor a jerkface," Chad cries, "Alan is!" Alan turns to his bestfriend and wags a finger, "Watch it, young man!" Chad sighs, "Okay dad." He rolls his eyes like an annoyed teenager.
"Okay, so are we going to play this Monopoly or not?" Caleb asks. "Let's do it!" Joey exclaims. I grin, "Okay." We open up Chad's Monopoly game, and everybody picks their pieces. Chad picks the dog, Joey the horse, Caleb the shoe, Alan the car, and I'm stuck with the thimble.
"How 'bout I be the banker?" I ask, tossing the thimble back into the box. Caleb shrugs, "Go for it, kid!" They pass me all the property cards and such, and I give each of them their starting money.
"Now, if you're well-behaved, you'll get extra money, and if you're not I'll take away your money," I say glaring at Chad. "But that's not how you play," Chad says. Alan sighs, "Just go with it bro."
The game drags on for hours, with frequent snack breaks. "Does anybody even know how to end this game?" Joey asks. Caleb shrugs, "Beats me. We should probably read the instructions." Alan shakes his head, "Whoever owns the most property wins!"
The boys carefully count all the properties, being thorough not to miss one. Turns out, Chad wins. His prize is the final cupcake, which Joey quickly shoves in his face.
"Wow, Joey, really?" Chad asks, reaching for a napkin. Joey shrugs, "I saw the opportunity and jumped at it." I laugh, "This tour is so much fun!" Alan nods, "Yeah, it'll be even more fun whenever we go in the kitchen and do schoolwork."
I sigh, "Really dude?" He nods, "Yeah, I promised your parents, come on now." He coaxes me into the kitchen where I reluctantly sit down. This is the life, except for the school part. Actually, that part isn't that bad either, and I don't even get bullied anymore.
