Chapter 15
"Alan, can I please have a break now?" I whine. "Fine, Mia, you may have a break," he nods. I jump up from my seat, "Yay! I was getting tired of math." He grins, "Okay, go watch a movie with the guys or somethin'."
I walk to the back of the bus where Caleb, Joey, and Chad are playing Mario Kart. "Ooooh I wanna play!" I squeal. "Sssh young grasshopper, patience," Chad whispers, frantically pushing buttons. "You're messing up my concentration!" Caleb adds. "You can play after this game, love," Joey says. I nod, and sit down on a beanbag chair, eyes glued to the race.
"I'm will crush you!" Caleb informs his opponents. "Fat chance, Grimm, fat chance," Joey says. "That's what you think, Caleb!" Chad says, hurling a turtle shell at Wario. I laugh at Caleb, who quickly regains his speed.
The race is just about over when Alan enters the room. "Jeff stopped, we're at Chick-Fil-A!" He exclaims. Joey pauses the game, and stands up. "CHICKEN!" He screams, making a bee-line for the door. I jump on Alan's back, as we get off the bus. Inside the restaurant, there's a very long line. Chad whines the entire time we're waiting.
We finally all order our food. I wait on a tired-looking Alan's back. "Hey kiddo, can you wait on a different person's back, please?" He asks. I nod and jump on Joey. "Jo-Jo!" I exclaim, as he tries to pry me off. "Mia, do you have a problem with walking?" He asks. "Uh huh! I hate it," I reply, clinging on for dear life. Chad and Caleb get our food, and we walk to a booth.
"Get off now, punk!" Joey demands. I sigh, "Whatever, Stamper, I can take you." He shakes his head, "No you can't! Alan, can Mia take me?" Alan chuckles, "That crazy, mixed-up girl probably could." I laugh, "Hey I'm right here, ya know?" I curl my hands into fists and punch the air.
"Alright! That's enough, guys, come on," Alan says. "She started it, dad!" Joe exclaims pointing at me. I pout, "No! You started it, Jo-Jo!" I point my fingers at Joey.
"I'll put you in separate corners," Alan warns. Joey and I reluctantly sit down, on opposite sides of the booth. Chad says a blessing, and we all devour our chicken.
On the walk back out to the bus, I'm on Chad's back. "Alan, can't she walk?" He whines. "I don't know, Chad, just let it go," he replies.
"Did I hear the phrase 'let it go'?" Caleb asks. I nod, and Caleb, Joey, and I belt out the lyrics as loud as possible. Jeff chuckles, "You guys are sure full of energy." Joey nods, "That just tells us how the tour will go." Jeff grins, "Well, there won't be a dull moment, I'm sure."
We walk back to the TV, and the guys resume their Mario Kart game. Caleb wins. Chad gets tired of playing, so he goes off to do something on his own. Alan, Caleb, Joey, and I play a few games. Caleb wins all of them.
"Okay, we're at a hotel," Chad exclaims, entering the back of the bus. "What time are we supposed to be in South Dakota?" I ask him. "It's okay, darling, we still have two days," he replies. I nod, "Well okay."
We all gather the stuff we'll need for the night, and walk into the hotel. Chad and Caleb check us all in, and pass us keycards.
"We have three rooms, somehow gotta divide this," Chad says. "I DON'T wanna room with Chad!" Joey quickly exclaims.
"I guess it could be me, Mia, and Chad, and then Caleb and Joey," Alan shrugs. The guys nod. "Sounds good," I agree.
We take the elevator up and a few floors and part ways. "Mia, you take the couch," Chad says. "Hey hey hey, woah, slow your roll," Alan says, "Mia should have first pick."
Chad sighs and rolls his eyes, "Fine. Where do you wanna sleep Mia?" I shrug, "Wherever, the couch is fine."
"Are you sure?" Alan asks. "Dude, let it go!" Chad exclaims. I laugh, "Another Frozen reference? Is this a thing around here?"
Chad shrugs and we all get ready for bed, taking turns in the bathroom. "Okay, I'm turning off the light," Alan warns. Chad and I climb into our beds, as the room becomes dark.
I notice Alan's figure next to me. "Goodnight Mia, sleep well beautiful," he whispers. "Night Alan. Love you." He smiles, "Love you too."
He walks over to his be and climbs in it. "Night Wicked!" I call into the darkness. "Ugh, again with the nickname?" Chad responds. "What? I like it," I defend myself. "Well, I don't," he replies.
"Night guys!" Alan calls, quieting us down. "Goodnight world!" Chad calls. And after that, nobody else makes any sound.
