The Union Academy is a government-funded private institute where young individuals with superhuman abilities train to become heroes, while also serving as the base of operations and training site for most heroes.
Despite its purpose to groom youths to become heroes, most of the students and the professors are shown to be very corrupt, abusing their powers and authorities.
History
Although the exact date of the Union Academy's foundation is unknown, but it is presumed that it was first founded around the late 1990s, where continuing appearances of many different superheroes would lead to the creation of the Union Academy, in hopes of training young individuals with special superhuman powers could become heroes in the future.
Around 2020, the introduction of Quirk Phenomenon, would lead to the booming of the Union Academy, recruiting many young men and women into their school. Other individuals with different sorts of powers, such as magic, Semblances, Sacred Gears, Magecraft, Cursed Techniques, Visions, and others would be enrolled as well.
Many nations would become benefactors to the school, including the United States, Japan, the four Kingdoms of Remnant. This also applied to many corporations as well, including the Schnee Dust Corporation, Vought International, and the Big 3 (Elysion, Tetra Line, and Missilis).
However, the more popularity and support the school gained, there were signs of corruption as well. The students, who were arrogant in their abilities, began to abuse their statuses to gain popularity and forgot the ideals they first fought for. Some like Weiss Schnee, the heiress to Schnee Dust Corporations, Issei Hyoudou, a human-turned-devil who is the Red Dragon Emperor, and some Pro Heroes who fought for money, were one of the many factors behind the people's resentment of Union Academy. To make matters worse, even some of the headmasters were corrupt as well, abusing their positions for their personal gains.
After the arrival of the Paradigms, the said heroes gained official higher power than even the headmasters, which allowed them to bring end to the corruption within Union Academy.
Curriculum
The Union Academy is a private institution, where it acts as both a high school and a university.
Union Academy does not adhere to traditional school methods, and allows their staff to teach their classes however they like. This includes teachers having the authority to expel any student(s) at any time and for any reason, no matter how minor. Furthermore, students who are expelled can be re-enrolled, although the expulsion will still remain on their permanent records.
Students were also sent on missions as part of their time at the academy. First-year students were generally limited to lower-risk missions, such as accompanying police officers into the city and had to be accompanied by a professional hero on their first mission. Third-years are known to go on higher-risk missions. Additionally, Union provides more one-on-one time with veteran heroes than other Academies.
The Union Academy is a five-day school week where the weekends are day off.
Classes
The students' primary education involves everything they need to know to become excellent heroes in service of the community and work towards the qualifications necessary to be allowed to use their powers in public. These include medical aid and close combat.
There has been numerous controversies regarding the combat classes, such as some students using that class as an advantage to assault and bully weaker students and some professors covering it up.
Uniform
The uniform consists of a long-sleeve, button up white shirt, a dark blue jacket with dark red stripes, and a dark gray tie. The boys uniform include dark blue pants, while the girls uniform includes a dark red pleated skirt. Some of the uniform worn by the students includes vest.
While the students are required to wear this uniform, it seems the faculty is lax about enforcing students to wear the uniform properly; Katsuki Bakugo wears his uniform with the top buttons undone, no tie, and his pants sagging. Izuku Midoriya wears his tie not tied properly. Ruby Rose wears her cape. Yang Xiao Long and Neptune Vasilias wear gloves. The students are also allowed to customize their uniforms as well.
The faculty don't seem to mind students wearing footwear outside of the common brown dress shoes. Hair dye and piercings are also allowed.
Their gym uniform matches the color of standard uniform. The gym uniform is either a short-sleeved, long-sleeved, or sleeveless shirt, along with long pants.
Security System
All the students and staff must require a special ID Card that allows them to enter the premises. Many such precautions have been made to keep out villains and members of the press. The school buildings are protected by magical fields that keep any threats from entering the area.
The school also has an underground emergency shelter that acts as a linear maglev network that can send them along any number of underground routes at the faculty's discretion. The ground between the surface and the shelters will fortify with about three thousand layers of bulwark plates. Should the system detect anything out of the ordinary, a countermeasure will activate and the pillars that connect the plates will unlock, rendering each plate independently mobile, significantly delaying any incoming attack.
