Chapter Twenty Nine
"I am so getting you back for this." Evee mumbled underneath her breath. Harry had been teasing her throughout the entire dinner, his hands underneath the table, every time a little closer in between her thighs.
She had mastered the art of keeping a straight poker face when Kate told her all about the first time she met William. Evee was really interested in the story but with her boyfriend trying to hold back laughter next to her, it was difficult to concentrate. "It's good that you guys were friends first." Evee smiled at the both of them. She had hoped the smile reached her eyes when she pinched Harry in his hand, hoping he would leave her alone or at least, touch her properly.
She heard him squeal a little and tried holding back laughter. "Little wench." He mumbled playfuly.
"You should punch him harder, Evee." Will spoke, he already noticed the fact that his brother couldn't keep his hands to himself and how the poor girl tried to slap his unproper hands away.
"Thank you William, next time I will." Eveline grinned, taking a sip of her wine.
"I've got your back." Will grinned at the girl sitting in front of him.
"That's great guys, let's just all team up against the spare." Harry rolled his eyes, enjoying the fact that his girlfriend and his brother already got along perfectely. "Kate, you're still with me, right?"
The brunette rolled her eyes at him. "I'm staying out of this, I'm going to check on Charlotte, it's almost bed time."
"So Evee, how much of my brother's past are you aware of? Have you seen my brother's nudes? What did you think of them?" Harry was ready to throw half of his chocolate pie at his brothers face. Why was he being so annoying? Sure, they teased each other a lot but when he had introduced Cressida to him, he was never this laid back. "Remember the first time I brought Kate back to dads? And you were such an annoying prat through out the whole evening? It's payback time."
Evee tried holding back laughter as she watched both of them. She could easily see herself and her brother in this situation. "He's just teasing you, sweety." She grinned at Harry, placing her hand on his wrist. "Anyways, I haven't seen them. Do you actually have them laying around here somewhere so I can have a look?"
"Eveline!" Harry spoke, turning his head towards her in shock as she burst out laughing along with William.
"Those are not coming into my house!" William laughed, ignoring Harry who was shooting dirty glances at the both of them.
"I'm sorry." She grinned at her boyfriend, hoping she hadn't pushed too many buttons but when he just smiled at her with a weird look in his eyes, she didn't feel that comfortable.
"So Will..." Harry spoke, glancing challengely at his girlfriend, Evee could only squint her eyes at him. "Did I tell you that Evee and her gay bff have a well organised and practised synchronic dance on 'check on it' by Beyonce?"
William who just took a sip of his beer nearly choked. "Harry!" Evee in reply slapped his arm, trying to hold back laughter. She couldn't believe him!
"Skippy and Lara both witnessed it." He nodded his head at his brother.
"He did?! You will have to do it again!" William grinned at her.
"No way! Not going to happen!" She fiercely shook her head at the both of them.
"She'll do it after a couple of drinks." Harry shrugged, grinning at the blonde rolling his eyes at him. "Say how many wines have you already had this evening?"
"Just two, Ed." She spoke, sticking out her tongue at him. Harry in response tried grabbing her tongue with his fingers, laughing at her.
William, amused at the setting in front of him couldn't help but chuckle at the both of them. They did look happy, he really hoped it would last. Evee was everything Harry said she was; funny, charming and honest. She was trying to slap his hands away. Laughter was taking over the room when Kate walked back into the dining room with a broad smile upon her face, seeing them both.
Evee noticed the duchess walking back in with Charlotte in her hands. "Catherine, she's adorable." Evee looked at the little girl smiling in Kate's arms. She was obviously wearing her pyjamas, ready for bed.
"She is, isn't she?" Harry grinned at his niece, his arm around the back of Evee's chair.
"She's very social as well. Do you want to hold her for a bit?" Kate asked, noticing how happy the nurse looked at the girl.
"Can I?" Evee was getting a little nervous, what if Charlotte didn't like her? O god, what if she dropped the girl on her head? It had never happened at work, but still this was the princess of England in her hands.
The fact that she already had a prince of England between her legs, didn't really calm her nerves either.
Kate grinned, nodding her head. She placed the one year old in Evee's lap. The girl was sitting quite comfortable there. Evee smiled, "Well hello there, little girl."
The girl stared at Evee's face, "You have the prettiest blue eyes I've ever seen."
She could hear Harry next to her mumbling, "Thanks for that." as William rolled his eyes at his brother.
Evee, totally ignoring her boyfriend, was invested in the child, letting the little girl play with her hands. "She's really good with strangers." Evee spoke to both Kate and William.
"She actually really is. George isn't so much. I was surprised that he replied to you earlier." Kate grinned, taking a seat next to her husband and watching her daughter play with Evee.
"Right, your time is over. Give her to her uncle Harry." Harry spoke next to her with his arms open.
"No. Give me five more minutes. I think she wants to stay with me." Evee argued with him, totally ignoring Harry. She made some silly faces at the girl, who laughed in return. Making everyone 'aw' in the room. "Yes, she does. She wants to stay with Evee." Evee spoke with a highvoice, tickling the little girl, who once again laughed full on.
William looked with adoration at his daughter laughing, she was obviously having a good time on Eveline's lap. Harry didn't lie when he said she was good with kids. "Is she always this happy?" Evee questioned looking at the couple in front of her.
Kate nodded her head, "Yeah, she's just a happy child, always smiling."
"You're such a pretty little girl. Yes, you are." Evee spoke to the child once again, not even noticing people were looking at her.
Harry was a little taken back by the situation. Seeing his niece on his girlfriends lap and her being so good with Charlotte made him wish he had somesort of a timemachine, so he could have his own children. He thought about it for a second, they would make good parents. She would be an amazing mother. It was of course too soon to even bring the subject marriage up, let alone children. They had only been together for two months but his heart warmth at the sight before him.
None the less, he was sure there would be an Evee shaped hole in the wall if he were to bring that up already.
No, he'd wait another year or two.
The fact that his brother had a twinkle in his eye didn't help either. William and Kate were already looking at the both of them with lovesick smiles on their faces. Thank god, Evee didn't notice it.
"Do you want to go with your uncle Harry?" Evee questioned, looking at the girl giggling in her arms. "I think that's a yes." She turned over to look at Harry, who stared at her.
"What's wrong?" Had she done something wrong? Didn't they like the way she handled Charlotte? Was she too playful?
"Nothing." He smiled at her. "Give her to me."
Evee carefuly handed the child to Harry. Smiling when Charlotte obviously recognized Harry. Her little hands quickly made their way towards his hair. "So do you guys planning on having a third?" Evee questioned, looking at the couple.
"God no, two is plenty for now. I was so sick during both pregnancies, I'm not sure if I would be able to do it a third time." Kate replied. "William wants a third."
Evee looked over at Harry's brother, "Really?"
"What? Harry wants like four or five." William shrugged. "Three isn't a lot."
"It's not a lot because you don't have to push them out." Kate shot back at him.
Evee couldn't help but laugh, "That's true though. And five!? Seriously!?" The nurse spoke turning towards her boyfriend.
"Four is also a good number." He shrugged, bumping his knee up and down with Charlotte giggling on top of it.
"You probably shouldn't do that, Charlotte just had her milk." Kate adviced, looking at her brother in law bouncing his knees up and down.
"Well Harry, you're almost 32, if you do want five or four-" Harry ignored Evee taking a big swallow of her wine. "You'd have to get them soon, one after another. Else you'll be 50 when you have your fifth." William spoke.
"Right. Let's drop that subject before there's an Evee runs for the hills." Harry chuckled, looking at his girlfriend next to him. He was surprised that she didn't look as pale as he thought she would.
"I'm not going anywhere." Evee grinned.
"Well, we should actually get going to my place. I still want to show you around in daylight." Harry spoke, standing up and passing his niece to his brother.
Evee nodded her head at him, "Thank you so much for dinner, it was absolutely wonderful."
"You're welcome. It was really great to finally meet the girl my brother cannot stop talking about."
Evee grinned, happy that dinner went so well. She did expect them to be nice, but she didn't really knew they were so laidback. It wasn't so nervewrecking as she thought it would be. She already felt accepted. "I hope I'll see you guys soon."
"We'll see you for breakfast tomorrow, right?" Kate looked at the both of them. She noticed Harry hadn't told Eveline about their sunday ritual. "We always have family breakfast on sunday morning." She smiled, informing the blonde.
"That's really nice. Then I will see you guys in the morning." Evee nodded her head.
Internally, she was a little mad at herself that she didn't pack any other clothes (she didn't really pack anything at all). She would have to wear the same thing to breakfast. Was that a good impression?
Her thoughts were interrupted by Harry's hand on her lowerback, guiding her towards the front door together with the couple carrying Charlotte. She felt Kate kiss both her cheeks, "If there's anything you need, we're here." Catherine spoke, knowing tough times were ahead for the blonde nurse.
Evee was touched by Kate's words and replied looking into her eyes, "Thank you, that means a lot to me." The nurse turned towards the little princess in the duchess her arms. "And you, you little cutie, I'll see you in the morning."
"Of course, you will see me in the morning, Evee." William spoke, rolling his eyes at her.
"You're not that funny Will." Harry replied, his actions speaking otherwise as he laughed at his brother.
Evee laughed, surprised when William hugged her. "I think you need to pull the chains a little tighter with that one."
Eveline didn't know what to say so she just watched as Harry flipped his brother off and marched outside. "Harry! Charlotte's here! You can't do that!" Kate spoke.
"Right. I forgot. Anyways, I'll see you guys in the morning." Evee tried holding back laughter when William stuck out his tongue at Harry behind Kate her back.
When the doors finally closed of the couple's apartment, Harry eagerly took Evee's hand. "So? What do you think?"
"Honestly?"
"Of course."
"A little scared that he has to run this country one day." Harry couldn't help but laugh. "Thank god for Kate."
"I know, right? They should've just given the job to me."
"Oh, no." Evee grinned. "That would be even worse."
"You take that back." Evee screamed as Harry ran after her through the courtyard.
Inside apartment 1a, William and Kate were looking through the window, holding back laughter. "They look in love." Kate stated, watching as Harry finally managed to grab Evee around the waist and lifted her upon his shoulder. Their laughter could be heard all the way inside. William nodded his head, "He's happy, that's the most important thing."
