Chapter Twenty

With Harry being gone for more than two weeks, Evee wasn't sure how to feel. Okay, she had busy schedule, she had to work twelve days out of the fourteen and when she didn't work, she still managed to grab a drink with Jared and Freddy.

On the first couple of days of Harry's departure, the prince had been texting her about the opening ceremony, how nervous he was for his speech. He had told her how James Blunt was going to perform and how he already met with Michelle Obama, discussing the event.

Evee thought her eyes had deceived her. She had to read the text twice, Michelle Obama?! Like the first lady?! She couldn't believe that the guy who she made out with on occasion, just joked around with Michelle Obama. Like they were best friends. She swallowed, it was time for her to actually realise how big of a deal this guy really was.

She knew bbc was going to broadcast the openingceremony live and even though she had to work the next day, she decided to stay up in the middle of the night to watch it.

'I'm going to watch the ceremony xxx' Eveline quickly typed a message on whatsapp and sent it.

In Orlando, Harry was getting more nervous by the minute. He had met thousands of people over the last couple of days but none it of was as nervewrecking as his speech. He was never really good at giving a speech. Speaking in front of thousands of people, whose attention were only on him, wasn't his forte.

Trying to rub his sweaty handpalms on his dark blue costume, he noticed his cellphone buzzing. Quickly taking it out of his pants, he noticed it was a message from Evee. She was still up? It was the middle of the night in London.

She was going to watch the ceremony. Shit. That only made him even more nervous. It would probably be the first time she'd see him on television with full attention. It was in moments like these, that he wanted her by his side. He knew she probably would be able to calm him down, cheering him on from the sidelines, probably too loudly knowing her.

Smiling, he typed a response, 'Don't you have to work tomorrow? I am so nervous! Xx'

In London, Evee stared at his message, quickly replying. 'Yes but I'm staying up to support you! Aw, I know you'll be amazing. You got this! Xx'

Eveline quickly marched towards her freezer, taking out a bucket of Ben and Jerry's- Chunky Monkey. She grabbed a spoon and ran towards the couch, noticing there was music starting and the ceremony began. Fuck now, she was getting nervous for him.

She watched with all of her attention, her eyes glued on her television meanwhile placing huge chunks of ice cream in her mouth. When they finally announced Harry, Eveline's heart had never beat so strongly in her chest. Everyone was cheering, the Americans obviously liked the prince.

A big spread on her face when he brought the microphone towards his mouth. I kissed that mouth, Eveline thought. Focus! She listened carefuly to his speech, she knew how nervous he was. His hands always fumbled around when he was nervous, she had noticed that from their dates and he was doing it again.

"I spent 10 years in the British Army and I was deployed to Afghanistan twice" Harry spoke through the television "I served along soldiers from all over the world. I saw the sacrifices you and your families made to serve your nations."

There was a silence in which the crowd applauded and Eveline felt proudness taking over her emotions. "That's why I had to create the Invictus Games, to create a platform for all those who served.  Their stories are as amazing as they are unique. They focus on what can be achieved, rather than what can't."

Evee watched his mouth move on the television but she couldn't digest his words anymore. There on her television stood the man she had been so fortunate to get to know in these past three weeks. He had sat with her on her couch, he had held her when she cried and he had listened to her stupid jokes. He was special. He was so special.

"Over the next four days you will get to know these amazing competitors. They weren't too tough to admit they struggled with mental health." Addressing the veterans, Harry continued. "You are fierce competitors. You are role models that any parent would be proud to have their children follow. You've made me a better person and you're about to inspire the world. And I'm proud to call you my friends."

How did she get a guy like that to be interested in a woman like her? God, what was she doing? Keeping him in the dark. He didn't deserve that. He was an amazing young man and in that moment she felt so proud of him.

She stood up as Harry left the stage, walking towards her kitchen, she placed the leftovers of her icecream and when she closed her freezer, she saw Maja's drawing on her fridge.

Maja.

Maja had loved Harry.

He charmed his way into her heart in a minute, just like he had done with so many people. Staring into the drawing's blue eyes, she knew what she had to do.

She would conquer it all, she would conquer the world if it meant being with him.

God, she realized how quickly she could fall in love with him.

And it scared the shit out of her.
