Chapter Thirty Six
The next day Evee and her mother had cooked together, her father had planned on working in the garden, something he did frequently. He was the kind of person who could never sit still, even if it was a Sunday. Harry had surprised him by asking if he could help, he knew he wasn't a good cook and making a good impression towards Evee's father was one of his priorities.
Harry didn't pack for clothes that could be used to work with in the garden but he didn't care. He wore his oldest jeans and an old t-shirt. Eveline raised an eyebrow at her boyfriend when he passed her with a look determination on his face, "What are you doing?"
"I'm just going to help your father in the yard."
Help her father? "You don't have to do that though. Don't you have some work to do on your laptop?" Eveline was confused, did her father set him up to do this? She was sure he wouldn't make it easy on Harry.
"Yes. But I'll do that later on tonight. See you later." Harry quickly pecked his girlfriend on the lips and left her alone in the kitchen with a confused face.
When the prince finally saw her father running around with a wheelbarrow full of sand, he swallowed the lump in his throat. That was one heavy wheelbarrow and he handled it like he was driving a Lamborghini. He marched up to the man, not noticing one single drop of sweat resting on his forehead. Danny was wearing a white tank top and some cut up jeans. "Hi, sir." Harry spoke when his father in law emptied the wheelbarrow.
Mr Delamane wasn't sure where the voice was coming from, turning his head, he was surprised when his daughter's "prince" was standing next to him with a smile on his face. If he looked right, Danny could see the edge of worry in his blue eyes. "Hello." He nodded his head at the young man.
"Do you want me to help you around? Evee and her mother are cooking inside and I don't really have anything to do right now."
Danny looked at the young man in confusion. Help him around? It was definitely not something he was expecting from his daughters knight in shining armor. There was a moment of silence where Danny just analyzed the man in front of him (who now was nervously rubbing his neck). "Are you sure?" The older man replied in a thick accent. "I don't want you to get hurt." The man could see that Harry wasn't skinny, he had some arm muscles but Danny was sure the kid wasn't used to working like this.
"I'm sure, sir. Do you have another wheel barrow?"
"In the summerhouse." Danny pointed towards the wooden shed on the right of them. Harry just nodded his head and made his way towards it. Opening the door, he could see all kinds of gardening tools. He knew Evee's father and his father would get along perfectly. When he finally spotted the wheelbarrow and another shuffle, he took them both and made his way towards the hill of sand Danny was working on.
"So, what's the plan for this?" Harry spoke pushing his shuffle in the sand and adding it in his wheelbarrow.
"I want to make another vegetable garden." The man replied, his barrow was nearly full and Harry had only managed to add three heaps of sand in his.
"Oh okay, that's nice. My father has one as well. He's very fond of everything organic." It was true, Prince Charles had a vegetable garden in Clarence House.
Danny was looking at him with a surprised expression. "He does everything himself then?" He couldn't really believe that the Prince of Wales maintained his own garden. Whatever maintained meant in their definition. They probably had a lot of gardeners.
"He tries to. He can't when he's abroad though. He says it relaxes him."
Danny nodded his head, not sure what to say. Apparently the royal life was more normal than he expected it to be. He was surprised the boy wasn't tired yet. "Has my daughter met your father yet?"
Oh here it comes, Harry knew it was bound to happen. Things were leading up to the subject of their relationship. Harry couldn't say he wasn't ready for it though, he was almost glad. He just wanted to get it over with so he wouldn't think about the things he couldn't say. Things at dinner yesterday were awkward enough. "No. He does want to meet her though, he's heard a lot of good things about her."
Danny wasn't sure why, but knowing that she hadn't met him made him feel better. He wanted to meet her boyfriend first. His daughter had always been an independent woman, Eveline did what she wanted to. He had worried about her in her teenage years, but she was a grown up now. He knew she could take care of herself. It still meant a lot to him that she still somewhat wanted his approval. "I'm not sure of many things in life, Harry but I am sure that my daughter is a very special woman."
It was the first time Harry heard him speak his name, it was a little rough on the tongue but he enjoyed it none the less. "I am very well aware that she is, sir."
Danny nodded his head, "When she loves someone, she loves with all her heart." The older man pushed his shuffle in the little hill of sand and looked at Harry. "You break her heart, I will break your arms. Prince or no prince. I will find you."
Harry almost had to chuckle but when he saw the serious expression on Mr Delamane's face, his eyes widened a little. "I am not planning on doing that sir, I love her very much."
"I can see she loves you a lot." Danny looked into his blue eyes, analyzing everything in it.
"I really hope so. Probably not as much as I love her." Harry surprised himself with the smooth answers, he was amazed that he hadn't passed out underneath mister Delamane's squinting gaze.
"What are your intentions?"
"If you think I am fooling around sir, you're severely mistaken. I don't have time for that. I love your daughter."
"I know you're quite a lot older than her. Six years, right?"
Shit, Evee wasn't wrong when she said her father would have googled him. Now Harry was certain he had seen the scandalous pictures as well. "I'm 31, yes."
"So if things go right and you guys keep being all loved up, you'll eventually marry because that's what you have to do, right?"
"Yes, in my family you would have to marry each other." Harry wasn't sure where this thing was heading. He was surprised he could talk about marriage out loud and not be scared shitless anymore. Times had changed.
"And I'm guessing since you're already quite old-" Harry tried not to take this one personal. "You wouldn't wait another seven years to pop the question."
The prince thought about it, her father was right. He definitely wanted to get married before he was thirty five because he wanted kids before he was forty. Kids before marriage in the royal world would be a scandal. "If I ever have any intentions on asking your daughter to marry me, you would be the first to know, sir." Harry definitely wasn't the most traditional man in his family, but he knew that if he were ever to ask Evee to marry him, he had to ask her father first. He did not want a black eye. "But that's something for the future, we're just going with the flow right now. Enjoying how things are going."
"You would protect her, right?" For the first time, Harry could see a softer expression on Danny's face. This wasn't a cold man, this was just a man who loved his daughter dearly.
"With everything in my power."
"Would she be a princess then?" Danny couldn't help but ask. He knew it was too soon and he also knew his daughter would be mad at him for doing so. She would be scared Harry would walk off with all these serious questions.
"She'd be a Duchess."
"And I'd be on television in front of billions trying not to cry as I bring my daughter up to the aisle?"
Shit, Harry hadn't thought about that. "I would guess so, yes sir."
Danny tried not to laugh, "My old colleagues will have a field day, that's for sure... If that were to happen one day." Harry heard him mumble. "Just call me Danny, Harry."
Harry nodded his head, he was glad the worst part is over. "Okay then, Danny."
"Just one other question." The prince just nodded his head at Evee's father "What is it with you and those pictures on the internet?"
Apparently the worst part wasn't over. For a moment, Harry didn't know what to say anymore. "Alcohol, a lot of bad decisions and friends you can't trust."
"Not sure why my daughter likes you that much, you have a lot of hair on your ass." He couldn't believe his ears, was his girlfriend's father making fun of him?
"Mathias scored it an eight." Harry grinned, as he watched Danny trying to hold back laughter. The air was getting a lot clearer and he liked it.
"Oh boy, you don't know anything. Mathias once scored mine as a nine."
"If you're fishing for a compliment over there, I will have to disappoint. I will compliment a lot of things, but not my girlfriend's father's buttcheeks." When Harry heard the barking laughter coming out of Danny's mouth, he grinned. In the corner of his eyes, he could see Evee popping her head above the kitchen window with a confused expression on her face.

It was on their last night that Evee tried to sneak into Harry's room. Her parents had given them separate rooms because they didn't think it would be 'right'. The house wasn't that big so their rooms weren't that far apart. Tiptoeing with her little shorts and tank top through the hallway, Evee was relieved when she finally made it towards Harry's bedroom door. She silently opened the door, seeing her boyfriend fast asleep. Closing it behind her, she crawled into bed. She had missed sleeping next to him.
She managed to kiss both his cheeks softly as his eyes started to flutter. He was waking up. "You're not supposed to be here." He mumbled, throwing one arm around her waist.
"I know." She whispered. "I'm such a badass." Evee kissed him eagerly. Her tongue dancing around his lips, begging for entrance, begging for more.
"We can't do it here." Harry spoke, her lips were still attached to his.
"Why not? Come on, live a little." She spoke, placing her bare legs on either side of his waist, straddling him. "Well hello there." She grinned at her boyfriend beneath her when she felt his hardness against her pubic bone.
"Don't tease me." His eyes had already adjusted to the dark and he could see the shape of her body on top of him. The tight white tank top was really doing it for him.
"I'm not teasing anybody." The blonde grinned, twirling her fingers through his happy trail. He wasn't wearing any shirt to bed.
"Your parents are in the next room."
"They won't hear a thing, they're partly deaf." Evee grinned, kissing the sensitive spot underneath his ear. She knew it made him crawl. It always worked. She could heard him moan underneath her along with the footsteps in the hallway-
Wait.
Footsteps.
"Shit, there's someone coming." Harry mumbled in the dark. "Hide!"
Eveline never had the best physic but when she heard familiar footsteps- she knew it was her father, she had heard those footsteps for years-, she jumped off the bed and did a ninja roll (that would put Jackie Chan to shame) underneath it. She could heard the sound of Harry holding back laughter when she hit her head on the side of the bed and cursed. It was then that she heard the door open.
Five seconds later she had to squint her eyes because of the light. Her father had turned it on. Trying to hold her breath, she listened. "Harry. Is everything okay in here?"
Harry in the meantime, tried to cover up his semi with the blankets. "Everything perfect, sir. Why?" He knew he was the worst actor ever.
"I thought I heard voices. Must be my mind playing tricks."
"Maybe sir, I didn't hear anything."
"Right. Well, it must be my daughter underneath your bed making those noises. Eveline, please go to your room." Harry could hear his girlfriend trying to hold back laughter. He, himself, was a little frightened that her father would punch him for having her in her room. "No worries Harry, I'm aware that this was all her idea." He gave Harry a quick smile. "And sweety, I'm not partly deaf."
It was when Danny closed the bedroom door that he heard his daughter and her boyfriend laugh, he couldn't help but smile at the sound of that.
