Chapter Seventy Seven
Thursday was a busy day for Evee. She had a couple of appointments. In the morning, harry and her had a meeting about the idea of HeartChild with Oliver and she had a two o'clock get-together with the wedding dress designer.
The Heartchild meeting went well. She had explained the idea of the foundation towards Oliver and his team. She had told them about the meaning behind HeartChild, that it would grant children's wishes and it would be a support system for the parents as well. It wouldn't just be one wish at the time, it could make a lot of children happy by doing events for a whole floor. It would rely on volunteers and charity. Oliver was surprised that the prince's fiancé was so invested in this new organization. She wanted to get the ball rolling as soon as possible, starting off with a website and contacting hospitals. They had promised her they would take care of it. Evee on the other hand, did want to discuss the matters with Harry's father as well and Harry told her he would make sure he'd arranged dinner in the next couple of days.
Evee left the meeting room with a big smile on her face, happy to be contributing to something bigger already. "You don't think they hate me because I just gave them a lot of work, do you?" The blonde spoke, having lunch with Harry.
"No, Oliver's actually quite good with starting foundations. He's very motivated." Harry nodded his head, biting into his bagel.
"Okay, I'm actually really excited for this." She grinned, pushing the tomatoes in her salad aside with her fork.
"Aren't you going to eat those?" He pointed at the tomatoes.
Evee shrugged, "I don't like tomatoes in my salad." He grinned, rolling his eyes a little and leaned forward to grab one off the side of her salad. "Oi, no sharing food." Evee replied, slightly stabbing his hand with her fork.
"You just said you didn't like tomatoes!" Harry spoke, immediately pushing back his hand in reply to her fork attack.
"Doesn't mean I share my food." The blonde mumbled, trying not to mess all over her summer dress.
"Why are you eating a salad anyways? Have a bagel."
"Well, I have a meeting with the wedding dress designer this afternoon. I don't want her to look at me like I'm a fat slob." Evee spoke and at the same time eating her food.
"Maybe you can start with chewing with your mouth closed." He tried holding back laughter. "Didn't you learn that you have to chew like you have a secret?"
"Are you quoting What A Girl Wants?" Evee squinted her eyes at him, pointing her fork in his face. She noticed the flush on his cheeks and threw back her head in laughter. "You've seen that?!"
"You have too! Since you know what I'm talking about!"
"Of course I have, I love that movie! I have it in my dvd collection! Oh! We can watch it tonight!" The blonde rambled and clapped her hands.
"Right. Yes, we'll do that." Harry mumbled, knowing fully well how if his brother was here he'd make fun of him. Whatever, William was just as whipped as he was in that department. Harry had seen the way Kate forced him to watch America's Next Topmodel.
"Anyways, I actually really need to go." Evee spoke, standing up and walking towards him. She bent down and placed a kiss on his cheek. "I'll see you tonight?"
"Of course, pick well." He couldn't help but wrap his hand around her wrist, bringing her back for one last kiss.
"I need to go if you actually don't want to see me walking down the aisle naked." She mumbled against his lips.
"Thanks for the vision." Harry smirked, receiving a small punch on his right shoulder.
The drive towards Mayfair took only five minutes. She wanted to go by foot but Bobby didn't seem to like that idea. When the car finally pulled over in front of small red bricked building with only one big window at the front, Evee quickly opened the car door. She hoped no one would spot her, she wanted to keep the wedding dress designer's name hidden as long as possible. It was even harder to stay incognito with the big bodybuilder sized African American behind her. When she rang the door, the buzzer immediately went off.
The interior of the house was the total opposite of the exterior. Everything was white, modern and clean with a hint of black in the actual decoration. She was immediately greeted by the woman herself, who seemed a little fidgety. "Hello, madam. It's nice to meet you, I'm Lily." The woman, who couldn't be older than maximum 28 years wore bright red lipstick and immediately grabbed the hand Evee gave her.
"I'm glad I can finally see the face behind all those amazing dresses. Please call me, Evee. This is Bob, my security." The blonde pointed towards the quiet, but stern looking man behind her.
"Welcome, I just cannot say how much I appreciate your trust in me. I didn't expect any reply back and now, wow." The black haired woman had to stand back and take a moment to actually believe that Prince Harry's Evee was actually standing in front of her, asking to design her wedding dress.
She was going to design Prince Harry fiancé's wedding dress.
Lily knew it was a lifetime opportunity. This would probably be one of the biggest things she'd ever do in her life. This young woman had given her the trust to design something so big. Lily had promised herself when the palace called to confirm that she would do everything in her power to make the blonde happy.
"I enjoy smaller businesses more than the big ones." Evee spoke, placing her hand on the woman's arm in hopes of calming her down. "I hope you're ready for this journey with me."
"Absolutely." Lily grinned, surprised by how easy this girl actually was. She couldn't help but think how the blonde looked like she stepped straight out of a magazine. She could definitely understand why the prince had fallen for her charms. The bright smile on her face seemed genuine and her eyes looked like they contained anticipation. "Let's go upstairs. We can have a seat there and talk a little more."
Evee nodded her head and watched how Lily let them go first. When she finally made it up the stairs and through a hallway, she could see a big open room. The dark wooden floors matched the white ceilings. She thought the room had a Scandinavian style and absolutely loved it. In the center of the room was a big, round white table with comfortable looking chairs surrounding it. She noticed that there were already glasses and bottles of water on top of the table. "I'll be waiting in the hallway." Bobby spoke, eyeing the blonde.
"Don't be ridiculous, I won't have you waiting the entire afternoon in a hallway. Sit Bobby." Evee spoke, pulling out a chair for the man and pointing her hand to it. "As long as you can keep a secret we'll be fine." She grinned, eyeing the young man.
Bob tried holding back a grin, but sat down immediately. He was actually quite intrigued on what the dress would end up like. The fact that he'd be one of the first to know, actually made him happy. It meant that Evee trusted him, although he also had a feeling that Evee had a knack for trusting people way too quickly. She always saw the good in people, that's one of the first things he discovered about his boss.
Evee watched how Lily grinned at the both of them, "What would you like to drink? Some champagne? I also have water, tea, coffee and orange juice."
"Just some water for me, please. It's a little early to be drinking. Bob?" That was a sentence she thought she would never speak, 'It's a little early to be drinking'. How times had changed.
"Some water's fine for me as well." The man mumbled, still not feeling quite in his element.
Lily nodded her head and filled their glasses. "I would actually like to start with saying that we can ship in every material you like. Our lace comes directly from a small company in Paris. It is handmade and we can really give you anything you want. We can imbed perfect quality pearls and even clear cut crystals. Anything you want is possible. What should this dress feel like? What did you have in mind?"
Evee nodded her head, swallowing away the feeling of worry about the actual cost of the dress with a sip of water. "I want it to be romantic. I don't want it too big, it should still feel comfortable. I want a lot of detail with a little bit of lace and maybe some crystals and pearls. Not that flashing white, white. Maybe more eggscale? I want it to be romantic and different from any other dress."
Lily nodded her head in understanding. Evee watched how the wedding dress designer took out several thick maps, placing them all on the table. "These are all different styles of bodies. We have A-line, ballgown, modified A-line, trumpet, mermaid, sheath. Do you actually have anything in mind?"
"Urhm." Sitting in front of all these different sketches was a little intimidating. Sure, Evee had given her wedding gown a thought. She wanted nothing too big, something that fit her figure. "I want an A line but I don't want it do start at my waist. I actually would like to have the dress somewhat fitted on my... Bottom and then let it flow. If I'm making any sense." She nervously laughed.
"That would be a modified A-line." Lily nodded her head, taking the modified A line out of the map and putting it aside. "We also have different kind of necklines. Now I know there's some standards because this is a royal wedding."
"I like the halter one." Evee pointed at the one sketch. "My shoulders would be covered. I don't want sleeves, it would be too much. I want a big veil falling over the dress so it will cover up my arms a little anyways."
Lily nodded her head, not wanting to argue with the blonde. "Let me just start with the front sketch. Have you thought about how long the actual train has to be? The biggest one is royal."
"God, no royal. And no cathedral." Evee pointed at the ridicoulous long trains. "They'd have to roll me down the aisle."
Lily couldn't help but throw her head back in laughter. "Okay not the biggest one then. What about Chapel?"
"Chapel is fine, I suppose. It's not too big and not too small. I should be able to walk around in that."
"It also depends on the layers and material. You wanted lace right?"
"Satin covered in lace."
"Let me just try and sketch something real quick, okay?" The woman spoke to Evee, grabbing a bunch of pencils and crayons. "Remember this is just the first sketch. I will have make a final one once everything is settled and we have some measurements."
The blonde couldn't help but stare at the young lady sketching in front of here. She did it with so much flair that Evee couldn't help but be even more certain of choice. She was glad that this obviously, extremely talented woman would design her dress. She had that twinkle of concentration in her eyes as her arms leaned over the white papers. It took her 40 minutes to complete it, ending the dress with an egg scale, vintage looking colour. "Remember this isn't the end result, I added a couple of things that I think would fit you well. We can always remove those or just start over again. We have months for this dress, remember that. I still need to add the veil."
Lily looked nervously at the future Duchess sitting in front of her, she almost didn't dare showing her the result. Finally she turned the piece of paper around, placing it in front of the blonde.
Evee couldn't help but be surprised, she thought Lily was only going to sketch the front but she also managed to do the back. "That's... Wow."
She would have never thought of the detailing that showed in this sketch. The way the lace elegantly but purely shaped across her chest. The way she added in the pearls. The little buttons on the back of the dress, starting from her neck, all across her back, over her bottom towards the end of the train. The sophisticated thick lines of lace moved across her waist all the way around it. "Your back would be covered by only silk in craved with pears and crystals. It wouldn't be total see through." Lily nervously spoke, eyeing the blonde in front of her that now had an open widened mouthed gaze upon the sketch.
Evee tried adverting her eyes from the first sketch of her dress. It felt like her dress. She absolutely loved it. After five minutes of trying to ignore her eyes wetting, she had to lift her hand to dry her eyes. When she finally removed her gaze towards Lily, she managed to speak. "It's perfect. It's just. Wow. I absolutely love it."
Evee could even see Bob stare breathless at the sketch. "His Royal Highness won't be able to take his eyes off you, madam." The man spoke.
Lily nodded her head, trying to keep in the squeal that was going on in her mind, "We'll start from this. Do you agree with the way the lace flows?"
"I love that. I love the buttons on the back. I really love this dress already."
"That's actually a relieve." Lily smiled, still a little taken back on how easy this woman was. "In the next week, I will make another couple of sketches. With veil and just the complete package. I will send these to the palace, not to His Royal Highness of course, and I will need you to let it all sink in for a little while and if there are still some changes you would like, you can call me or we can meet up again. I will have to let you come back to pick out the materials anyways. Then we can actually start building this dress. The only thing I need now are your measurements."
Evee nodded her head, "Bobby, I will need you to step out for this one though."
She couldn't help but smirk at the man's embarrassment when he finally stepped out of the room.
