Chapter Seventy Eight
It was on Monday when Anna gave Evee a big, heavy envelop. She knew right away what it was because she could see the big confidential sign in the middle of it. Lily Dujardin's classic looking logo that only consisted of a picture of a small lily was on the top right corner. Eveline was surprised the woman had spent her weekend probably doing nothing but make these drawings. Anna looked at her eagerly, hoping that the future duchess would just open the envelope already and show her the dress.
"Can I just have one moment?" The blonde mumbled, wanting to have a fresh mind and be alone for these pictures.
A little disappointed, but understanding none the less, Anna left the study. Taking a deep breath, Evee took out the sketches. Her eyes stared at the magnificent looking gown. It wasn't even a sketch anymore, this was almost a proper painting done with water based paint. The girl had attached a document with explaining the different kind of materials towards Evee and which Lily would suggest.
The end result was absolutely breathtaking, even though it was only on paper, she could perfectly see the vision of the dress in her mind. It was almost as if it were there already. The blonde knew Lily had expected her to tell which part should still be altered but Evee couldn't eye one fault in the sketch. She didn't want one thing differently. The satin modified A-line had a bit of a dropped waist. The dress would hug every curve without looking like tacky. Lily had somewhat changed the neckline, but Eveline thought it looked even better than the haltered one. It turned into a modified sweetheart neckline that wasn't too deep. The lace overlay had crystals and pearls embroider patterns on it. Everything, including the capped sleeves was perfect.
The back though, the back was her favourite part. The illusion back with satin covered buttons covering it from neckline to the end of the small lace covered chapel train.
She stared at the paintings for a good 15 minutes when her eyes adverted towards the documents. *Company in France can import Brussels Lace. The designer had thought about her heritage. Again, Evee was so grateful for Lily. She was going to meet up with her as soon as possible and tell that she did want something of her heritage in there. She did want the Belgian lace.
"Anna?" Evee shouted, knowing way too well that her stylist wouldn't go anywhere too far away.
It took only five seconds for the older brunette to open the door a little too eagerly. "Yes?"
"Do you want to see the dress? I have sketches."
"Oh god, I thought you were never going to ask. Of course I want to see the wedding gown! Show me!" In all honestly, Anna had been a little scared to let Evee go to that wedding designer on her own. She thought the nurse had great style, it just sometimes didn't match the royal family. The girl was edgy, a little bohemian, not a classic dresser like Kate had always been.
She had to resettle her mind when she saw the paintings of the dress though. "Holy mother of-" Anna stared at the beautiful picture of the gown. She hadn't seen anything like this before. "That is beautiful, that's- Eveline, wow."
"What's beautiful?" Evee almost jumped out of her skin when she realized who's voice that belonged to.
"Close your eyes! No!" Evee screamed, throwing her body on top of the sketches on the table. "Go away Harry! You are not supposed to see these."
"If those are my naked pictures, I wouldn't mind hearing the positive feedback." Harry smirked, receiving an eye roll from his fiancé.
"They're not your pictures, this is the end sketch for my dress, you need to leave the room. I don't want you to see these." Evee spoke, still partly laying on top of the table, praying that she wouldn't ruin and wrinkle these sketches with her bum.
"Oh! Sorry! Is it beautiful, Anna?" Harry turned towards the woman he had known for half of his life.
"It is very beautiful sir, but you will have to step out of the room now." It was the first time Anna gave Harry a somewhat glare. She knew how curious the boy had always been and didn't like his tone.
"Fine, I'll leave. Evee, we're almost leaving . Dad's expecting us at seven."
"Okay, I'll be ready." Both women stared at him like they would fight for their lives to protect these sketches until he finally huffed and left the room. The blonde immediately turned around, checking if the sketches were still complete. "Thank god I didn't harm them. Did you see the end one, with the veil covering the dress?"
Anna nodded her head, still a little blown away by the dress. "It's gorgeous. You did a marvelous job."
"The designer actually did most of the work. I'm going to ask for the Belgian lace." Evee grinned, taking all the sketches and putting them back safely in the envelope.
"That's great, I know the people of your country will like that. Have you thought about which tiara you'll be wearing?"
"Tiara?"
"In a royal wedding, it is expected that the bride wears a tiara. You are no different." Anna answered. Seeing Evee's confused and worried facial expression, she thought it was best to give a little more information towards the blonde. "The Queen will invite you over, she did it with Catherine as well. She'll give you some tea, you'll talk a little and then she will show you the different choices."
Already feeling nervous about being alone with Harry's grandmother, she swallowed nervously. "I've been thinking about showing the sketch towards her."
"Maybe you should make an appointment to meet up with her. I'm sure she will like it that you took the first step, then you can show the dress and you'll see if she'll start about the tiaras or not."
Eveline nodded her head, feeling grateful for the information. "I'll ask Harry how I can meet up with her." She was sure that she couldn't just text the woman, it was a little harder than that. Definitely now that she spent a lot of time in Balmoral.
Anna nodded her head, "You should probably get ready, it's already six thirty."
Evee eyed the clock above the big fireplace mantel, "Right. I'll see you tomorrow."
"I will, have a nice dinner." Anna smiled, patting the blonde's upperarm. "Oh and Eveline," The blonde turned around, "You made a good choice. You will look breathtaking. I'm sure the prince will absolutely adore the dress."
Squeezing the envelope in her hands a little harder, she replied. "Thank you." Closing the study's door, she eagerly walked towards Nottingham cottage, the envelope with the sketches still clutched in her hands. For some reason, she wanted Camilla to be the first of the family to see it.
Harry and her made it just on time at Clarence House. Evee had been there before a couple of times for dinner but it was usually together with William, Kate and the kids. She was greeted with the same enthusiasm the Prince Of Wales always gave towards her. He had a knack of telling her how pretty she looked and he would always laugh at her flushing face. "I thought we could eat outside, it is a gorgeous day." He grinned, walking patiently next his future daughter in law. "Is that what I think it is?" Charles eyed the envelope in her hands.
"These are the sketches for my wedding dress. I've been keeping these firm in my hands, scared that Harry would run away with them." She slightly chuckled, watching how her fiancé greeted his mother in law. "I thought it would be nice for Camilla to see them first. No one in the family has seen them."
The prince immediately seemed to brighten up even more, "I think she'd love that you keep her opinion in account. It's quite an honor to have the premiere."
"No worries, Charles, I'll show them to you right after. We just have to manage to keep Harry busy for a little while." Evee grinned, eyeing Harry's father with a cheeky grin.
"I'm very curious to see the dress." Charles smiled. "I bet it will be beautiful. I heard that you choose a small company to design it."
Evee couldn't help but be nervous. Would he think less of her because of that? "I actually thought it would be nice to give people a head start with their career and if I could help with that, I didn't see any harm in it. Is that a bad thing?" She carefully looked at him, relieved that his face was still as cheerful as always.
"I think it's a wonderful choice. I think you've been handling everything really well lately. I know how hard it can get but you're doing a great job." He gave her another smile, glad that they had some time to discuss a couple of things apart. Harry seemed to be having an animated conversation with Camilla. "I've heard about HeartChild from Harry."
Eveline nodded her head, she really wanted to know with Harry's father thought of it. "Do you think it's too early for me start that foundation? We're not married yet but I just had this idea in my head... I told Harry and he immediately wanted to start the process."
The blonde felt Charles hand press against her shoulder, trying to calm her nerves down. The poor girl seemed to take his opinion close to heart. "I think it is a wonderful idea. You will help a lot of children with that. I like that you're getting into action right away but still care for this old man's opinion."
The nurse couldn't help but smile gratefully at Charles, "You've always been too kind for me."
"You remind me a lot of Harry's mother, you know." The prince mumbled, trying not to let his son hear. "You seem to connect with people on a different level. You always seem so genuinely delighted and you have a way of charming yourselves into people's hearts. Mine included."
Evee didn't know what to say for a moment, she was lost for words. It was the first time that Harry's father actually opened up about his feelings towards her. She always thought he was nice, a real sweetheart actually but this was on another level.
"I do think it is one of the reasons my son and the public loves you so much." Charles eyed the young blonde in front of him. "I actually read an article about you yesterday in which they called you, 'A breath of fresh air on a hot summer day.'"
The nurse couldn't help but laugh, throwing her head back. "They write everything, don't they?"
"Well, I particularly agree with them on that one." He grinned, taking a sip of his Barrogill whiskey.
It was a bit of an odd compliment, but a nice one none the less. "Thank you."
"Now, let me just try to keep my son busy so you can show these sketches to my wife. She'll be delighted." Evee nodded her head, smiling at Charles. "Camilla! Would you come here for a second, Evee wants to show you something important!"
It didn't take long for the elder blonde to come over with a grateful smile upon her face. "I'll leave you girls alone now." Charles winked at Eveline and left them both standing on the terrace.
"I actually have the sketches of my wedding dress in this envelope." Evee grinned, holding up the big brown packet. "I wanted you to be the first of the family to see them."
A genuine look of surprise took over Camilla's features, "The first?"
"Yes the very first. Apart from Anna and Bob, no one has seen this."
"Not even Catherine?"
"Not even Catherine." Evee grinned.
"I'm allowed to feel a little special now, aren't I?" Eveline couldn't help but laugh at the Duchess of Cornwall's pride. "Let's go inside before Harry sneaks in on us."
The nurse nodded her head, glad that she took the news so well. In the end Camilla thought the gown was breathtaking and definitely different from any other royal gowns. She thought it fit the future duchess remarkably well. "I adore the satin covered buttons on the back. It's a really elegant gown."
"Do you think Harry's grandmother would approve?" Evee questioned a little nervously. "With no sleeves..."
"You have capped shoulders, it should be fine. Are you planning on going to her any time soon?" Camilla asked with interest. She knew how nerve-wracking it was and she had been used to the woman for most of her life.
Eveline nodded her head, "I want her approval. It's important to me and I know it's very important to Harry."
"I'm sure she will love the dress." Camilla spoke, trying to calm down the nervous look in the blonde's eyes. "I for one, absolutely adore it."
