Chapter One Hundred - Part Three
After the balcony kiss, Evee and Harry had a half an hour for themselves before the luncheon started, hosted by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. The blonde knew that there would be around 650 guests, a lot of them of which she didn't know personally. It was just like the gala night before, she just had to smile and be polite.
It was as if the morning had passed in a rush. The main thing she remembered was the way Harry stared at her when she actually spoke her vows. Evee was glad when she actually had a half an hour in privacy with her now husband. When James and Bobby had closed the door behind them, she immediately wrapped her hands around his neck, not caring one single bit about her wedding gown.
She sighed, staring into his smiling blue eyes. "You're my husband now."
He chuckled, his arms wrapped around her waist. "You're stuck with me for the rest of your life, Duchess of Clarence and Avondale."
She scrunched up her nose in a playful matter, "Oh no."
"You better believe it." Harry answered, trying to hold back laughter. "Did I already tell you how much I absolutely adore your dress?" He took a step back, roaming the front of the dress carefully. "Turn around for me."
She grinned, willingly showing the back of the dress. "The back's the best part."
"That's not true." He grinned, looking at the magical creature in front of him. For a moment, he remembered the first time he saw her, cursing around at the hospital. The way she crunched down in front of the sick little girl, letting her wrap her small hands around Evee's neck. The way she called her patient, "princess" but never looked twice at him. The way she looked in her blue scrubs. He knew she was special, but not once did he actually think she would ever turn out to be his wife. That she would be standing in front of him, wearing this magnificent piece. "You're the best part."
"Ow, you're so cliché." She grinned, stepping closer to him. "Want to start making babies now?" Evee laughed at his widened glance, he eyed the vacated room.
"There are actual kings and queens waiting for us in the ballroom." He seemed to weight down his options as the blonde threw back her head in laughter.
"I'm joking, we can't have sex here and now. Your grandmother would kill us. Anna would kill me but nice to know where you're at." The nurse teased, her hand in his.
"You know I want to make babies." Harry grinned, staring down at his wife.
"I know you do. Want to know a secret?" She whispered, eyeing him.
"I don't know, is it a good one?"
"It's an excellent one." She pointed out, a Chesire grin upon her face.
"Please, enlighten me." Harry whispered, a lovesick grin spread on his face.
"I stopped my birth control two week ago. I had my period last week so that means that I'm very fertile now." Evee almost had to laugh at his eyebrows raising in anticipation.
"So if we were to have sex now, there is a possibility that you know... " Harry stared at her, trying to ignore the need to bend her over his grandfather's desk. There was nothing in the way for him becoming a father now, he had always wanted this. Ever since George had been born, he always wanted one of his own. Now that he actually had a wife, it would be legal, people would expect it. The roads were open. His family would approve.
"Well, I've been on birth control for the past 10 years. I'm sure my body will need some time to get into its normal hormonal stage, but yes, there's a possibility, although the odds are small." She grinned at him biting his lip. "Let's just, get through all of this, alright? I think we're needed in the ballroom. Maybe tonight, we can practice a little bit." She spoke teasingly, hoping she wouldn't be dead tired after today.
He had to be patient. Even though she looked like a god damn angel, he could not make love to her right now. He had to wait until tonight. He could do that. "Alright."
"Today's has been perfect, Harry. You've been perfect." She grinned, "I could not ask for anything better."
"Even with all the cameras and all the commotion?" He asked a little uncertain.
"Even with all the cameras and all the commotion." She nodded her head. "I have you. I have thoughts of happiness I didn't even know I was capable of having. Give me a kiss."
He grinned, wrapping his arms around her waist once again, burying his own mouth onto hers as if it was the last thing he was ever going to do. "Not touching you in that ceremony was the hardest thing I've ever had to do." He mumbled against her lips.
"Hmm." She closed her eyes for a second, feeling his forehead against hers. "Are you ready for the luncheon?"
"I am. Are you?" He looked at her.
"Yes I am." Evee nodded her head, fixing her veil around her shoulders. Wrapping her arm around his, she spoke, "Let's go."
The blonde followed Harry outside the room, stopping for a moment when Bobby smiled at her. The African American could finally tell his boss and her husband his felicitations. "Congratulations, Duchess of Clarence and Avondale, Duke of Clarence And Avondale." He nodded his head at the couple.
"Now, now Bobby, I'm still Evee." The blonde grinned, watching how her security stuck out his hand for her. She eyed it with a crooked eyebrow, taking it into hers and pulling him closer. "You better give me three kisses, it's what we do in Belgium when friends congratulate one another."
The bodyguard eyed the Duke of Clarence and Avondale who just raised his hands as if he didn't know better himself. Bobby lowered his head, smelling her perfume when she planted her lips upon his cheeks. "Did you manage alright today?" Evee stepped back, looking at him in concern.
The broad chested man held back a smile, "I did fine on this beautiful day."
"Good." She gave him his signature smile. She eyed Harry who silently spoke that they probably should get a move on. "We're required in the ballroom. I'll see you in a couple of hours?" Evee eyed her bodyguard who nodded his head back, holding back a smile.
"Ready?" Harry asked once again, staring at his wife. He was pleased that she seemed joyful. He always had a hint of fear in the past, not knowing how she would cope with the attention of today. She seemed to be handling it all quite well.
Evee and Harry marched towards the ballroom hand in hand, releasing each other when the doors actually opened under some applause. Her eyes scanned the room for a familiar face, she noticed the royals she had met last night were there also. She knew there were many political guests invited to the luncheon, there would be someone along her side to introduce everybody.
From the information she had received before the wedding, she knew Harry would walk up front and she had to go second. There would be a line of guests and she had to shake hands, receive compliments and say hello to every single one of them. The rest of the family would follow the couple.
There would be canapes including quails eggs with celery salt, gateau opera cake, Scottish smoked salmon rose on beetroot blini and even mini Yorkshire puddings. Which translated in things she had actually never tasted before she dated Harry. She eyed her husband in front of her, who seemed to work his way towards the line of people with no trouble at all.
She turned towards Sadiq Khan. She knew he was the mayor of London. She held out her hand, a kind smile upon her face. The man immediately gently placed his hand into hers, bowing slightly. "Congratulations, Duchess. It was a beautiful ceremony."
"Thank you." Evee kindly replied. "I sincerely hope you enjoyed it."
"Very much so. It was very moving." The Muslim spoke, kindly looking at her.
"Well, I've tried to keep my emotions intact but sometimes things don't really go the way you want them to." The blonde joked.
"It's your wedding day after all. You're allowed to shed a tear." The man replied.
"Yes, yes it is. This is your wife?" Evee questioned, eyeing the woman standing next to him. The blonde noticed how she followed the conversation with a nervous look in her eye.
"Yes, this is my wife, Saadiya Ahmed and my two daughters Anisah and Ammarah." Mister Khan spoke, pointing with his hand towards the women standing right next to him in line.
Evee nodded her head at the women, shaking all their hands. "Your daughters are very beautiful."
"Thank you." Saadiya spoke with a friendly smile. "Again, congratulations on behalf of our family."
"That's very kind of you." The blonde noticed the way her guard silently seemed to tell her to get a move on or they would still be shaking hands by eight o'clock. "It was very nice to meet you. I'm glad you were a part of our special day."
"Likewise, Duchess." Saadiya replied. "Hopefully we'll have the chance to meet each other another time."
"I'm sure that won't be a problem." Evee grinned, nodding her head at the family. She turned her head towards Harry once again. He seemed to move quicker than she did. She would never get used to quickly saying hello or goodbye. She was always interested in the background of people. Sighing, she realized she had to hasten her pace.
Unfortunately, the luncheon didn't seem to go as fast as the gala or the ceremony went. She had spent the last three hours shaking hands and smiling. It wasn't until she was actually talking to the last person in line that she realized how exhausting this all was. She was grateful for every single person in this room to take their time and come to her wedding.
But after person number eighty six, it was very tiring to ask the same questions over and over again. The afternoon was closed off as Harry and her took the time to thank everybody for coming in another speech.
Tired but fulfilled none the less, the couple was glad that they actually had another few hours for themselves before the evening party started at Kensington Palace.
Evee knew she had to get her make up retouched and her hair done once again. The Strathmore Rose would have to leave her head and instead, the Cambridge Lover's Knot would be placed upon it. She could not wait until she saw Harry's face.
Author's note; This was the luncheon hosted by Her Majesty The Queen. I actually had quite a difficult time writing about it because it's all very straightforward and not very personal. I'm looking forward to write more close to the heart when the party for friends and family actually starts. I don't like this stiff stuff.
