Chapter Ninety Nine

"Wakey, wakey!" Her godson jumped upon her bed.

"Hey Andreas." Evee smiled. She had managed to catch the full three hours of sleep and then a shower. She just wanted to have some peace and quiet on her own before stepping outside of her room.

"Ready for the big day?" Her bedroom door opened, a cheery Chloe stepped into the room with much enthusiasm. She was wearing her team bride t-shirt from the bachelorette party.

Evee tried holding back laughter, tickling Andreas who was now rolling on her bed. "I think I actually am." The blonde smiled at her maid of honour. "Are you?"

Chloe squealed, clapping her hands and jumping up and down. "I am! I totally am! I'm so excited! This is going to be awesome. The sun is shining already and I've managed to turn on the tele, guess what?! People are already waiting in the streets! You should probably get up Anna and Lily are waiting for you. Strict schedule, 7 am breakfast, 7.30 am hair and make-up." The brunette walked towards Evee's window, opening the curtains in one swift.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm up." The blonde groaned.

"Follow me. There are some croissants and fresh orange juice. We need you up and energized to get through this day." Chloe turned around like a Duracell bunny and left the room.

Andreas had an awkward expression upon his face as he watched the brunette leave the room. His Godmother and him locked eyes and immediately burst out laughing. "Let's go, buddy." Evee smiled, pushing her hand through his hair. "Big day."

Eveline had breakfast along with her parents, Chloe and her brother's family. They managed to actually have a nice, quiet start of the day. It was nice, knowing what would follow wouldn't be as discreet. The blonde noticed Anna's head popping into the dining room, implying her to get a move on. "Guess this is my cue." Evee smiled at her parents.

"We all need to get ready as well." Chloe spoke, pointing at everybody. "Everybody should head towards the living room, the make-up artists and hairdressers has set up in there."

Her parents seemed to understand what Chloe rambled about, they had known the girl for a long time. Evee just rolled her eyes, ignoring Chloe as she followed Anna towards a separate dressing room. Anna turned towards Evee, "Lily is already here, the security guard is here with the jewelry and we have another couple of hairstylists and make-up artists."

"Anna, I thought you were going to do my hair and make-up?" Evee spoke a little confused.

"I can't do it on my own, I need some fresh opinions when I'm finished. This is a big deal, Evee." Anna spoke nervously. It was the first time that she saw the normally always collected stylist edgy. "Sit." She instructed, immediately combing the blonde's still wet hair. "Did you wash it with the product I gave you?"

"I did." Evee answered, "It smells good."

"It's so it shines more brightly." Anna nodded her head, locking eyes with Evee in the mirror. "Are you ready for this?" She smiled.

Evee bit her lip, "I think I actually am."

She sat in that same chair for the next two hours as people seemed to be working on every single detail her face held. When they were finally finished, Anna turned towards Evee. "We need to get you in the dress now. Afterwards we need to place the Strathmore Rose Tiara along with your veil upon your hair, so that will take us another 30 minutes. Lily will help you."

Evee nodded her head, and stood up straight. Her hair was already in an half up do style and her make up looked flawless. It wasn't until she stepped into her dress and until the Strathmore Rose Tiara was edged upon her hair that she realized the reason she was getting ready in the first place.

She would have a husband by noon.

"Evee, we have to g-" Chloe marched into the room, immediately stilling at the sight of her friend. Her dark brown eyes watered and Evee could tell that she tried not to cry. "You look beautiful." Chloe nodded her head, looking up and down at her best friend. "This is just- I already told you before how much I love this dress but now seeing everything together."

"We still have to place the veil before it's finished though." Lily smiled, stepping back for a moment to look at the bride.

Evee noticed her family stepping into the room also as everybody seemed to quiet. "I told myself I wouldn't cry." Jessica sniffed, waving her hands in front of her eyes. "This is such expensive make-up."

The blonde timidly laughed, scared that the actual tiara would fall off. It didn't feel as uncomfortable as she thought it would feel. Her mother turned towards her. "You really look like a princess now, don't you?"

"I do?" Evee searched for some acknowledgement. She was a little nervous on how the public would think of her dress and the way she looked.

"You look beautiful. We will see you at the altar." Her mother smiled, "The earrings look good on you, your grandmother would have been proud."

"They're my something old." The blonde grinned back at her mother. "I'll see everyone there, okay?"

"Good luck. Your father is already losing his mind in the living room." Chloe grinned.

"I'll try to calm him down." Evee smiled.

"Goodbye sweetheart." Her mother could tell by the way Anna was looking at her to not place a kiss upon her daughter's cheek so instead she placed her hand in hers and gave her a little squeeze.

Evee nodded her head at her family, watching how they left the room. Immediately Anna and Lily turned towards the bride, "Let's try to put this veil on."

She watched how both women tried to place it with much care along the tiara. They were talking to one another about possible windy scenarios and how to make sure it stayed put. It took them another 30 minutes to finally have everything ready. "I think we're done." Both women took a few steps back to see the final result.

Evee turned around towards the full length mirror one more time. Her face was covered by the vintage veil and her engagement ring-less hand carried the bridal bouquet. It was made by a match of white lily's and light pink roses. She had to swallow deeply when she saw her own image. She knew the dress was gorgeous, but now, seeing it together with the tiara and the veil, it was astonishing how beautiful it was.

"I think your father's waiting on you downstairs." Lily smiled. "I should probably go now, I need to be there before you."

"Thank you, Lily. It's everything I've ever dreamed of." Evee's eyes contacted with her dress designer and she thought she could see the woman's eyes tear up.

The woman nodded her head, "You look marvelous." And with those final words, the dress designer left the room.

Evee took a deep breath, turning towards Anna. "I should probably get downstairs."

Anna nodded her head, a proud smile upon her face. "Let's go."

Evee's fingers eagerly wrapped themselves around the bouquet as she tried not bit her lip in anticipation. She had to stifle a giggle when Bobby acknowledged her, lost for words. "That good?" She teasingly spoke from behind her veil.

"Better, ma'am." The young security guard spoke, a grin upon his face.

She took another deep breath as she noticed her father standing downstairs, his back turned towards her. A grey suit covering his body. He had a high hat under his arm and stared at the ground. She placed her hand upon the stairway railing, sliding down gently. The dress carried itself for a moment.

She had bickered to Anna that she didn't want anyone to carry it when her father would look at her for the first time. With a little annoyance, she finally agreed. Evee tried to look up because she felt her own eyes tear when she placed her foot upon the last step of the staircase. She lifted her finger to tick her father's shoulder and held her breath when he finally turned towards her.

For a moment she couldn't hear the clicking of the private photographer in the background, she just stared in the brown, teary eyes of her father. She heard him sniffle, "Papa."

Anna almost yelped in horror when Evee wrapped her arms around her father's neck and he buried his teary face in her neck. "Je ziet er zo mooi uit." ("You look so gorgeous.")

The blonde nodded her head, afraid that if she were to speak, she'd cry. "Klaar?" ("Ready?")

Danny Delamane nodded his head, wrapping his arm around his daughter's. "Ik hou van je. Je weet dat het nooit te laat is om weg te lopen, he." ("I love you. You know it's never too late to run away, huh?")

Evee laughed, throwing her head back slightly. She knew he would never dare to speak that sentence in English because the whole royal entourage was surrounding them, helping her with her dress. "I love you too." She nodded behind her veil. "But daddy, I'm not going anywhere except to my Harry."

Her father grinned at her, nodding his head. They stepped outside the courtyard of Kensington Palace. Anna was now holding on to the back of the dress, including her veil so it wouldn't touch the gravel. She was glad that she could step into the car out of the public eye. Bobby opened the door of the Bentley and she tried to ignore the roaring of the crowd from a far.

If they were this loud when she wasn't even in view, she wondered how loud they would be if she was. She carefully stepped into the Bentley and watched how Anna stepped inside with her to adjust everything. She placed the veil right where it should be, covering her face delicately and making sure it didn't stuck in her hair nor in her tiara. "Right." The stylist spoke. "This is it. Good luck."

"Thank you, Anna." Evee smiled one last time from behind her veil. "You did a wonderful job."

Anna appreciatively nodded her head at the blonde, "Harry will lose his mind when he sees you."

The blonde chuckled, noticing how her hand palms started to sweat. She had to walk that long aisle in half an hour. Oh god. No, she couldn't cry, she wouldn't cry. Taking a deep breath once again, she noticed her father entering the car, he placed himself with grace next to his daughter. When the car doors closed they locked eyes one final time. Danny Delamane managed to wrap his hand in hers as he gave her one final encouragement squeeze. "You'll do magnificently."

Evee gratefully smiled back from behind her veil, finally releasing her father's hand when the car started to move. The car immediately pulled out of the gates of the Palace, escorted by 4 police officers on motorcycles. The crowd roared at the first view of Prince Harry's future wife. Evee put on her signature smile, immediately waving from beneath her veil at everybody.

People were waving flags, cameras were clicking the day away. She noticed her father occasionally waving but she didn't dare to still her hand. When the car finally left Hyde Park behind, it drove towards Buckingham Palace. She could hear helicopters above them and tried to keep her cool. This was absolutely mental. There were so many police officers in front of the fences, keeping the public from the streets. She could tell that the officers were curious as well because they tried to advert their head towards the car passing by, hoping to get a glimpse of her.

She noticed the many Union Jacks and even some Belgian flags and grinned, waving at everybody trying to steal a picture of her. It seemed as if the whole car ride happened in a rush, there were so many people screaming that she didn't realize they had already arrived at the Horse Guard Building. They drove through the building as she swallowed the lump in her throat. The guards were lined up for her.

She raised her hand once again when they pulled over at Whitehall, driving towards Trafalgar Square. There were so many people standing around the roundabout that she didn't know where to look first. She noticed her father waving once again and did the same. The car soon drove into the Strand as she heard her father speak next to her. "Bijna daar." ("Almost there.")

She nodded her head, a smile upon her face. "I know."

When she noticed St-Paul's getting closer, she let out another deep breath. She could do this. The Bentley pulled over in front of the big massive stairway and she could hear the bells of the Cathedral over the cheering of the crowd. A guard opened her door and saluted her. She noticed Chloe coming down the stairs. She looked gorgeous in her own nude coloured bridesmaids dress.

Evee waited until Chloe stood next to the car. When they linked eyes, Evee's fingers wrapped themselves around her brides bouquet underneath her veil. She leaned forward to step out of the car, right foot first. She could feel a slight breeze touch her face as the crowd finally saw the dress they had speculated over in the last few months.

Evee turned her head towards her father, noticing how he carried the train behind her, still in the car. She passed her flowers to Chloe for a minute, who stepped back with a proud smile to see her best friend straighten out of the car. When Evee finally stood up entirely, Chloe passed the bouquet back and helped Evee's father with the train.

The blonde couldn't help but let her eyes wander at all the people standing behind the fences. When she looked at them, they roared even more. She smiled timidly, raising her hand to wave at them. She noticed the guard's still held their salute for her.

She saw that Chloe had the train in her two hands and stepped forward, her own high heeled covered feet touching the red carpet, careful not to fall over the steps. Oh god, she realized now that there were actually so many stairs.

She patiently waited until Chloe finished placing the long veil over the dress. Every now and then waving at the crowd, ignoring the clicking sounds of the cameras. She knew somewhere in that Cathedral Harry was dying inside. A pang of nerves shot through her body as her eyes looked up, at the West entrance of the Cathedral. Her father managed to walk beside her, he gave her his hand like he had done so many times before at the rehearsals.

She placed hers with much grace on top of his, chest level. So many things were going through her mind as her feet seemed to carry themselves on top of those stairs.

It was iconic really, two years ago at work she also climbed stairs to get to her unit, to eventually meet Harry. Now, she would climb them again, to meet him at the altar. Oh god, he would stand at the end of the red carpet, waiting for her. Her father turned towards her one last time when they finally reached the entrance. "Alright?"

She nodded her head, "Yes."

She didn't notice Chloe proudly carrying her train. She didn't notice the guard's salute. She didn't even see the pictures that were taken from the top of the building. The only thing she noticed was the way the Cathedral seemed to quiet when she was met by the Dean.
