Chapter Nineteen
Work had been difficult for Evee. She usually saw Maja a couple of hours of the day but she wasn't there and her room was still empty. The drawings were gone from her door and the floor was unusually quiet. Even Janice had a difficult time with Maja being gone. There was an obvious, awkward silence when the team had discussed their patients and Maja wasn't mentioned anymore. Evee knew she had to be strong for the other children. They couldn't see the hurt on her face, she didn't want to take away their hope.
Wednesday come and went rapidly. She had slept in and she only had three hours left before leaving for work. She took a quick shower and ate a meal before getting to her car and driving to work. It was already late when she got home. Thursday wasn't much different. Only have slept for four hours, she groaned, her alarm waking her up. It was always hard to wake up for an early shift after a late one. She just grabbed a coffee and headed for work, routine setting in.
She was glad when it was thursday, knowing Harry would come over. She wasn't sure if he had already eaten so she decided to text him. 'Want to order Chinese? Xx'
Harry was at Kensington Palace when he received the message. He immediately stopped typing on his laptop, picking up his phone and reading her message. He knew she was quite busy with work these past days so when she finally sent him a textmessage, he smiled. 'That sounds lovely, how was work? Xx'
'Tiring, glad that I'm seeing you tonight. Yours? Xx'
Harry was happy with her words. He was scared that she had forgot about their night since he hadn't heard much of her these last few days. 'Pretty much the same, what time should I be at yours? Xx'
Evee thought about it. It was already three pm, she still wanted to shower and get somewhat decent. 'Six? X'
'See you then xx'
Eveline smiled. She felt the familiar excitement in her stomach. God, she needed to control her feelings, even if it was only a little. She was happy she would see him again but didn't want to be too attachted. He was leaving for Orlando in a couple of days.
She also knew she had to tell him about Freddy. She didn't know where Harry and her relationship were headed but she just wanted to get it over with.
She quickly showered, putting on a plaid t-shirt and some dark ripped jeans. She applied little make-up and blowdried her hair. Before she knew it, it was six o'clock and there was a knock on her door.
Always on time, that's what Harry definitely was. She ran with bare feet towards the door, opening it to reveal Harry grinning with a stern looking James in the background. The security guy obviously knew the drill because he turned around immediately, leaving to wait in the car. "Hey!" Harry spoke, stepping into the apartment.
Evee quickly closed the door behind her, hoping no one had seen Harry in the hallway. "Hi." She smiled when she saw his arms opening, inviting her in for a hug.
With his arms wrapped around her middle and her neck, he managed to pull her as close as physically possible. He just wanted to hold her. "How are you?" He managed to speak with a low voice, still holding on to her.
Eveline would have lied if she said she didn't enjoy the hug. It had been a long time since someone just held her for the sake of it. "It's hard at work but I'm managing." She smiled into his chest, smelling his now familiar cologne. She had to admit, he was damn good at giving hugs.
When he finally let go, she didn't know what came over her. She knew she had said that she had to think things through when he was gone and she didn't mean for her to abruptly assault him with her lips.
But she did.
She wrapped her right hand around his neck, feeling the edge of his soft hairline and pulled him closer. Harry instantly knew what was going on because he didn't waste any time either.
Crashing his own lips on hers, Evee closed her eyes and responded equally. This wasn't like the first kiss they had shared, this was heated. A mix of different emotions bursting out to be spoken, just translated by this one kiss. He kissed her again and again, each time more intense and when her lips cooperatively parted, the tip of his tongue teased her mouth for the very first time. Her heart raced widly as she felt him pressed against her. She was walking backwords with Harry on her lips, finally bumping with her back into the hallway wall. His tongue was dancing with hers, exploring this new area and getting used to the way she kissed.
Her left hand laying on his chest as her left found it's way through his ginger hair. Shit, it was soft. She had wanted to wrap her hands all over it since their first date. She felt his hand underneath her ear, wrapped around her neck, pulling her as close as possible. His other hand was slowly making its way underneath her shirt, finding the soft skin of her stomach.
God, he had to stop now or he wouldn't be able to later.
Finally, he pulled his mouth from hers. Looking into her bright green eyes, he knew she wanted more. But he couldn't. Not until they were more. He wanted her so bad, the straining in his pants made it more than obvious. He knew she had felt it.
Evee was breathing heavily, looking at Harry from under her eyelashes. She was still in between his body and the wall. Why had he pulled away?
She felt herself standing in her toes, her mouth carefuly placing kisses underneath his ear. Her tongue circling on his damp skin. She could hear him moaning underneath her lips.
She needed to let go, of all these emotions and she knew just the way to do it. "Harry" she whispered, placing open kisses on his neck.
"Mmm" He felt her hand on his chest, slowly making its way south. Shit, she was going to kill him.
"Do you like me?" Evee spoke seductively in his ear, licking his earlobe in the process.
"Very much so." He mumbled, groaning. Who would know that this little girl had in it in her to absolutely drive him nuts like no one else had?
He wanted her so bad.
But he wanted more than just this.
Even if it meant pulling her a little back and swallowing his pride, it's what he had to do. He couldn't give it to her, as much as he wanted to.
"Eveline" Harry spoke, placing slow kisses on her jawbone, still pinning her in between him and the wall. "You have no idea how much I want this."
"Then give it to me." She mumbled, raising her head to give him more acces to kiss her.
"I can't. I will one day, not right now." He mumbled, he had never been so angry at himself then right now. When a beautiful woman makes a move, you take it. You accept it. But Evee wasn't a regular beautiful woman, he respected her. He wanted their first time to be special. Not just some shag in a hallway.
"What?" She looked at him confused.
"I want you to be with me when we actually do this. You being my girlfriend." His blue eyes stared into her green eyes and he almost thought he could see her eyes watering up.
Shit, he didn't want to make her cry. She had been through too much these last days that he didn't want him to be another reason.
Evee on the other hand, was trying hard to hold back her emotions. These last few days had been hell for her. She wasn't crying because Harry didn't want anything. She was crying because he didn't see her as another shag. He wanted their first time to be special. He respected her enough to do that. She knew it had to take a lot of willpower because before Harry, no man had ever done that before. Stopping her from having sex, whether she was sober or drunk. They always had their way. But she never stopped them either. She was glad when someone pulled her back to reality and it felt strange that Harry, a royal prince, was doing it.
She nodded her head, "I understand."
"Come on, sit with me." Harry spoke, grabbing her hand and placing a kiss on her fist.
"You're a hell of a kisser, Wales." Evee chuckled, she hoped that their kiss hadn't made things awkward. She wasn't mad at him for stopping her. She was glad in one way, maybe better things come for those who wait. It was worth the wait judging from that kiss anyways.
The prince grinned, seating himself on her sofa and pulling her on his lap. Evee giggled when he wrapped his hand around her neck and pulled her closer to his lips, kissing her another time. "You taste like strawberries and honey."
"You are so cliche." The nurse grinned. "I'm really happy you're here though." She sighed, placing her head in the crook of his neck. His beard tickled her skin.
"If I knew I would be getting this welcome, I would have been here sooner." He chuckled, wrapping his arms around her legs.
"And you were only gone for 78 hours, wait until I see you after you return from the games." Evee teased, her hands finding a way through his hair.
"Mmm, can't wait." He mumbled, laying his head back at the edge of the sofa, enjoying her playing with his hair.
"I need to talk to you about a couple of things though." Evee spoke, trying to get towards the subject of Freddy.
"About us?"
"Well not really, more about me..."
Harry raised his eyebrows at her. If this was the part where she told him she had a secret child with Robbie Williams, he would probably run off.
"I actually- wait look, you need to remember that this happened before I met you right? Well not before I met you, but still before the polo match." Evee nervously tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. She was scared of his reaction.
"Okay... You're making me a little scared now..."
"No! I'm not married or I don't have children. And I don't have an STD!" The nurse tried to explain. God, they weren't even a couple and she was making a huge drama out of this. Why was she reacting this way?
"What is it then?" Harry already felt relieved that it didn't have anything to do with those three subjects.
"Well before I met you, I kind of like had, a friend with benefits..."
He raised his eyebrows at her, "A fuckbuddy, you mean?"
"Yes. But he and I didn't have sex since I've met you. Like well, once just after your visit to the hospital but then you and I went on this date and I spoke to him about stopping all of it immediately."
Harry slowly nodded his head. He couldn't be angry at her, she didn't do anything wrong. He wasn't an angel in bed either, he had his share of women as well. "Okay."
"Okay? You're not mad or anything..."
"No you're not doing it anymore now, so why should I be?"
Eveline stared at him, slightly dumbstruck. Was it so simple?
"Was he like someone you knew from going out or something?" Harry knew he shouldn't be this curious but he couldn't help it.
Okay, maybe it wasn't so simple after all. Evee thought.
"He's actually my neighbour and one of my best mates..." She answered carefuly.
"Wait, what?" Okay now he had to admit he was jealous.
"But we're super fine now! It was mainly when I was drunk anyways!" She tried to argue.
"But you like, go to the pub with him and stuff like that..."
"Well yes, he's one of my best friends..." She wasn't planning on dropping Freddy over this. She knew things wouldn't be easy for Harry if they were ever a couple but it would have to be something he had to deal with. She would have to deal with rumors and him hugging models at polo matches and all other crap she could think of.
Harry shook his head, trying to think clearly. "Look it's fine. We're not a couple anyways."
Evee thought she had heard a bitter undertone. "Harry, I cannot erase my past."
"I don't want you to." He responded mumbling a little.
"Then you accept me as I am and I will do the same for you. And that's where we start." Evee replied, grabbing his chin and pulling him towards her lips. "Now stop being grumpy and kiss me, hot ginger."
