Chapter Four
The Children's hospital received an invitation for two people to attend the charity polo match. Janice decided to leave the invitation for Chloe and Evee, she knew she could trust Chloe. She was a responsible young lady, every day ten minutes early for work, never sick, always friendly and most importantely, she didn't curse. Perfect material to blend in with a royal, charity polo match. Janice also knew she would make sure Evee would behave.
She had already informed Chloe of the invitation, who reacted with excitement. Today she would inform Eveline. Janice knew she was up for a challenge.
Evee noticed Chloe locking eyes with her a couple of times, her co-worker tried not to grin everytime they did. "Chloe, is there something on my face? Stop staring."
"What? I'm not staring! I'm just wondering..."
"What?"
"What did you think of the prince tuesday?" The brunette nurse asked curiously.
"Why? Did they say something?" Eveline wondered if the prince and his entourage had complained about her actions.
"No. No, not about you. Just wondering what you think of him. He's handsome, right?"
"He's okay looking." Evee shrugged and continued organizing pills.
"Just okay looking?! He's prince Harry, what are you on about?! Are you high?!"
"No, not on weekdays. I'm just saying, if he wasn't a prince, people probably wouldn't bat an eye on him."
"But he is a prince."
"Yes Chloe, he is and I wish him all the best of luck being a prince. I do not care for the guy. Plus can we stop talking about him? He came over once, big deal. I need to work."
Chloe looked a little shocked. She knew Evee wasn't impressed by prince Harry but didn't think it was this bad. There was no way Eveline would want to go to that polo match with her.
Evee was just not that kind of girl.
She knew she'd prefer having a proper laugh and drinks with friends instead of dressing up for polo matches. Chloe nearly laughed when the image of Evee popped in her head with a big hat with feathers on.
Oh yes, that would be charming.
She wished Janice all the luck in the world.
Thirty minutes later, the head nurse called the short nurse into her office. "Eveline, can you come to my office please?" Evee was trying to remember all the things she did wrong the last few days. She wasn't late for work, the docters were friendly, she did spend a lot of time on the toilet this morning but it wasn't her fault those tacos were spicy as hell last night.
"Great" Evee mumbled, dragging her converse covered feet into the headnurse her office.
"I wanted to talk to you about something." Janice spoke carefully. Eveline noticed her gentle approach. She wasn't used to it and became suspicious. "The prince invited two of our staffmembers to attend a charity polo match. The purpose would be to raise awareness for the hospital."
"Great. That's good. I'm sure there will be a lot of nurses who are just thrilled to go." No way they're taking away my saturday time, Evee thought.
There was no way in hell she would embarrass herself even more. She couldn't imagine herself fitting in. Eveline had never been to a polo match, she didn't even know the rules. She just knew it had something to do with horses and sticks and a lot of rich people. It didn't fit in her alley.
"I want, no wait let me rephrase that. I need you to go."
Wait, what?!
Hell no.
NO.
"No."
"You will go Eveline and that's the end of the story. Chloe will keep you company." Janice demanded with a straight voice. She looked right into Evee's eyes and didn't blink once. She was determined to make the young nurse go to that polo match.
"I swear to god, if I have to go I will probably fuck things up. I'm not good at stuff like that. I mean have you ever seen me in a hat?" Evee spoke with a brave face. "I don't have a hat."
Janice nearly laughed, "You don't need a hat. Chloe will help you. I insist you go to support the hospital. I know you can be charming if you want to be."
Meanwhile, Evee had the facial expression of a slapped arse. She knew she was losing the battle. "You know what these kids mean to me... " Eveline spoke, standing up straight. "Just please, I'd do anything to help them but ask someone else. How is it that no one wants to go see this prince sit on his horse? I cannot believe that, they were all flabbergasted when he came over! Please, please find someone else." She tried to lee it decent but god, it was a Saturday. Her free weekend Saturday. It wasn't fair. "There are people way more qualified than me."
Evee pouted her lip, giving the puppy eyes that usual worked with any type of men.
"I need you to go Eveline."
Fine then, her head nurse wasn't a lesbian. Not that she had anything against them.
"Why?!" She whined. "Why do I have to go?! I don't even know royalty. Before tuesday, I wouldn't have been able to recognize that Harry dude on the street!"
She probably would have yelled at him again for blocking her way.
"If you really want to know, he wanted you to go. He was charmed by you." Janice spoke in a gentle matter, it was obvious the hard way wasn't working for Evee.
"You're kidding me right?!" He was mocking her again, he mocked her at the hospital and she was sure he would do it again at that damn polo match.
"Unfortunately I am not 'kidding' you. Next saturday you will be attending the polo match and I expect you to be on your best behavior. For the children."
Lowering her head, Evee sighed in defeat. Eyeing the head nurse again, she tried once more. "Can I at least get my next working weekend off? Because I was a good sport?"
Janice rolled her eyes, "Get out."
"Boo." Evee simply spoke, getting up and facing the facts.
She'd probably have to face Eddy again.
