Chapter Forty One

"I don't know about this, Chlo." Evee looked at herself in the mirror with hesitant expression on her face. She liked what she was wearing, it was definitely her style. The leather pencil skirt (that was cut out way too high) danced around her curves. The simple black t-shirt that she had knotted above it, did fit together with the skirt. The white pointed heels underneath gave her look an edge. Her hair fell over her shoulders gracefully and her make-up was on point.

"You look hot. Wasn't that the point of all this?" Eveline never knew that Chloe supported this look, if it was one thing, Chloe was very prude. "Kate said so and we're doing this. I'm getting you some jewelry."

Evee sighed, Fred was still in her living room. She knew he would whistle the moment she stepped out of her bedroom. Emilia, Harry's friend, had called (she was just texting her parents that she was fine so she noticed the call coming in) and asked how she was doing a couple of hours before.

Chloe had managed to grab Evee's phone out of her hands and invited Emilia to tag along with them. The nurse didn't want any trouble, she didn't want to be the person to stand in between their friendship but Emilia had said she still could make her own decisions. Apparently, her boyfriend and her had broken up last week and she needed a night out.

Evee was right, Fred had whistled at her with a stupid grin on his face when she stepped into the living room. Atleast it brought a smile on Evee's face. When Emilia arrived around nine thirty, the group had a pre-drink at the nurse her apartment. Eveline just drank a beer together with Fred as the other girls had some white wine.

"Evee, let's go over the rules, okay?" Chloe spoke, pushing her glass of wine aside.

Emilia looked in confusion at the brunette, "Rules?"

"We're on a Harry-is-an-ass-but-we-are-still-looking-fly mission tonight." Chloe responded, turning her attention back towards the blonde, who rolled her eyes at her best friend. "Number one: you smile. No matter what. Even if the camera's blind you, you grin. Flash those white teeth. Number two: Fred can protect you from the mob, right Fred?"

"I don't want people to think I'm a slut and already getting with another guy, Chlo."

"You're not a slut. You just happen to have a goodlooking male friend. Fred, you can tell people you're gay afterwards just to redeem the damage a little."

"What?! I'm not gay!" Fred argued. He had no trouble protecting Evee in public but telling them he was gay was a no go.

"Fine. I knew I should have invited Mathias." Evee heard Chloe mumble. "Rule number three: you can get a little drunk, but not too drunk. Slightly tipsy."

"You've thought this all through, haven't you?" Emilia spoke in awe.

"Of course I have." Chloe spoke proudly. "Rule number four: who's Harry? Does anyone know a person named Harry? Because I don't."

"Oh my god." Eveline mumbled, shaking her head a little. She would need another beer for this.

"Rule number five: you don't talk about our mission. Rule number six: you DO NOT talk about our mission."

"Is anyone else feeling like Brad Pitt?" Evee heard Fred mumble, she couldn't help but laugh.

"Now ladies and gentleman, tonight we'll stand tall and we will have fun. Cheers!" Chloe spoke proudly, pushing her glass of wine in the air.

"I'm not sure how I'm meant to feel after that talk." Evee spoke, sipping from her beer.

"I do!" Emilia spoke with enthusiasm. "CHEERS!"

When Chloe was finally done (Evee had never seen such a proud look on her friend's face), they finished their drinks and hopped in Fred's car. They had decided to go to the Mayfair Club, it wasn't that far away from Hyde Park. Evee was surprised when she noticed people were following their car. "This is absolutely mental."

"They saw you were dressed up, they just want to know where you're going." Emilia explained, she was used to the camera's, she came from an aristocratic family herself but her blonde friend was right, this was getting a little over the top. "They'll take pictures when you step out, try to smile."

"I'm not even sure why I agreed to all of this. I feel like shit." She did, Evee did feel like shit. She didn't want to go out, she wasn't ready for that. She wanted to curl up in a little ball and cry. She missed Harry so much but she wasn't allowed to miss him, because he was the biggest jackass ever.

"They don't know you feel like shit. Just try, Kate did it and look she got married to him!" Chloe spoke, hoping she would motivate her friend.

"William never cheated on Kate."

"I actually read that he hung out with his other ex when Kate and him were on a break."

Emilia, being a long friend of William and Kate herself, raised her eyebrow at Chloe, who in return shrugged. "I read a lot of books."

"I think you read a lot of garbage if you ask me." Harry's friend spoke to Chloe.

"Urgh, guys stop it. Let's just, try to make the best of it. If you don't feel like smiling Evee, then don't. I know that ginger twat will be jealous anyways, you look fit." Fred spoke for the first time from behind the steering wheel, the girls were sitting in the back, Evee in the middle.

"Maybe he won't be jealous, maybe he's not even thinking about me because he has his arms around that ex of his." Eveline mumbled, more to herself than to her friends.

Emilia immediately spoke up, "I've known Harry since he was a little kid. He's thinking of you. Else he wouldn't be calling you 500 times. Now I've kept my mouth shut the entire evening because Miss fightclub and Mister checkered plaid shirt were talking but let me give you some advice." The older brunette flashed her eyes at Evee's friends and turned her gaze back towards Evee when she continued. "Harry is an easy person, he believes a lot of things people say to him. It's because he has a good heart and doesn't want to see the bad in anyone- except you Fred, but I can see why he could hate you, no offence- "

Fred just shrugged, "None taken, couldn't care less if he liked me or not."

"Show him what you're worth. Show him that he cannot take your love for granted. Smile, do what Kate told you to do, I've known that woman for a long time and honestly? 95 procent of the time, she's right. She's been through a lot herself and came out stronger. And that's exactly what we're going to do right now, we'll come out stronger. Together." Emilia smiled, grabbing Evee's hands.

Eveline on the other hand tried not to cry at the emotional speech but failed miserably, "Okay"

"Shit, you weren't supposed to cry after that speech! Come on, wipe away those tears! Be strong."

The blonde nodded her head, "I'll be strong, yes." She tried wiping away her tears with her fingers. The paps couldn't see her cry. She had to look happy on the pictures.

"You're a strong independent woman." Chloe nodded her head, giving her friend a tissue.

"I am strong."

"You are!"

"Fuck Harry."

"Yes! Fuck Harry!" Chloe and Fred nodded their heads.

Evee felt the car pulling over outside the club. She could hear a couple of cardoors opening behind them, through the window she could see the crowd she had seen in front of her house for so long. Their cameras firm in their hands and ready to take pictures as the prince's (ex-?) girlfriend marched into a club with her head held high. "Ready?"

"Are my eyes still red?"

"Thank god no. I'll go first." Emilia spoke, opening the door. The crowd couldn't help but back up a little, they had to give the girl some space.

Fred came around just in time. Evee had just stepped out of the car with a bright smile on her face. He brought his face closer to his because he wanted to ask how she was feeling. She didn't understand him from a far since the crowd were yelling all kinds of things. "Are you alright?" He smiled at her, receiving a grin back and a nod.

If this was what his friend had to deal with every day, Freddy couldn't help but think that she must loved the prince a lot. "I'm fine, let's get inside." He managed to walk in front of her, occasionally throwing his head backwards to see if she wasn't in trouble. Every time he did, she gave him a smile, telling him not to worry. Bright flashes captured every single moment.

The bouncers outside of the club immediately knew someone important was coming in, because they let Evee and her friends pass instantly. The blonde was surprised, they escorted them towards a private area inside the club. You still had an overview of the place but people couldn't bother you.

Eveline shocked herself by actually admitting that she had a good time. She couldn't ignore that annoying feeling in the back of her head though, wondering if Harry was doing the same.

In South Africa, Harry didn't have any choice but to follow the pictures of the paparazzi involving his girlfriend. The earliest plane they could arrange was departing on Saturday evening. It was the only way he could get some information. He cringed every time he saw how close these adult men came to his girlfriend. They were in her face, they were shouting at her. They definitely didn't make it any easier on her.

He watched one video of her entering her building. He could see the struggle in her face. Harry knew she was coming back from work because she always put her hair up a certain way. She was tired and he somehow knew this was taken not very long after she saw the pictures.

Rubbing his fingers through his beard, he couldn't believe the questions they were shouting at her.

'Did you think he was capable of cheating?'

'Are you guys still together?'

He knew she heard every single one of them. He could see the pain and anger on her face. God, if she would just pick up her phone. He could explain everything.

At one question, Harry could see the way her eyebrows slightly raised themselves. He knew at this point she would snap. 'If Harry was here, what would you say to him?!'

Harry didn't know he was holding his breath, he didn't know his hands were shaking. He only knew he hated seeing her like this.

"I would say that he should leave me alone."

He cracked. The anger in her eyes made him do it. He had never seen her this way before. This was pure range. There was no disappointment, he knew she was disappointed in him but at that time, you couldn't see it in her eyes.

He thought he couldn't handle anymore, it wasn't right that he watched these pictures. He had hated them his entire life but he was miserable. The next rumor he read was that Kate stood by her side, even checked up on her every day by calling her. He knew his family was incredibly angry at him.

He immediately picked up his new phone and dialed Kensington Palace. He had spoken to his brother before but Kate didn't want to hear him. She was still angry at him.

He was actually surprised when his sister in law picked up the phone, "Kate, don't hang up."

"I'm not hanging up Harry." She spoke softly with a little sigh on the end.

"You talked to her."

"I had her on the phone a couple of times, yes."

"How is she?" He was almost too afraid to ask.

"Miserable, scared, heartbroken."

"I didn't cheat on her, Kate. You know I didn't. You know I love her too much for that."

There was a minute of silence. "I know you love her, Harry."

"You have to believe me." He almost pleaded, someone had to believe him. Someone had to be on his side.

"There are pictures all over the place."

"I gave Chelsy a hug. That's it, a hug. "

He heard Kate sigh, "Harry, I don't even think it's about that anymore. It's the fact that you went to meet up with your ex behind Evee's back, the fact that you showed her you could lie in her face, that you aren't trustable. I think she's most upset about that."

"But I am trustable! I am!" The prince argued.

"I don't think you're doing a good job showing that to her though."

"What did you tell her? Please tell me you at least told her to listen to me."

"I did that, yes. I told her I was sure you loved her and that she should try and let you explain."

"What did she say?" He eagerly asked.

"She said she needed some time. Just to calm everything down. She would eventually listen to you but she needs time to calm down her emotions."

"Yeah."

"I don't blame her, Harry."

"I don't think I do either, Kate." He mumbled, rubbing his forehead. He wanted to give Eveline time, he did. But he wanted to explain himself first. The fact that her asshole neighbor was lurking around the corner didn't make him feel any better. "Thank Will again for taking over the second part of the trip."

He knew he couldn't stay in South-Africa, he begged his father to come home. William could take it over. He knew he was asking a lot of his brother but he couldn't stand the questions about his relationship anymore. He had to bite his tongue every time.

When Harry spoke his goodbyes towards Kate, his eye fell on something on his laptop. A new upload. New pictures. His girlfriend looking like a godess on a night out. The bold headlines read, "Revenge is not a dish best served cold anymore, Harry. It's served hot. Smoking hot."

He had never closed his laptop so roughly before.
