Chapter Fifty Two
"How ready are you to kill my brother?" William asked the blonde, she was putting some punch in a red cup. He tried holding back laughter when he saw her annoyed side glance.
"I need a drink or two first." She mumbled as William laughed at her. "Don't laugh."
"Oh come on! Everyone thought it was hilarious. Don't be embarrassed." He put his hand on her right shoulder to calm her down a little.
"This was not the way I intended on meeting your grandmother or the rest of your family for that matter."
"She's used to Harry. Don't worry about it." He tried to explain. His grandmother knew Harry's escapades by heart. William knew she had been through a lot so a little harsh word from her grandson didn't knock her out so easily anymore. Evee didn't know that though.
"She almost knows my whole period cycle Will!" She noticed her boyfriend walking up to them, Harry might have been embarrassed himself fifteen minutes ago but his face was all smiley now. He was happy with his surprise party, he didn't give two fucks about his entrance.
Will couldn't help himself, he had to laugh. The poor girl's face was just too hilarious. "At least he didn't knock you up, see? There's always something positive about a negative situation."
"I'm glas you're trying to make me feel better, but honestly, I'll need a year or five to get over this embarresement." She took a sip from her cup, eyeing the crowd. "Anyways, you know it's a lie, there's nothing good about you losing your hair, William."
She heard Harry make an "Oooooh" right next to her, sticking out his tongue at his brother.
It didn't last long though, Evee turned towards him, "Don't laugh, you're right behind him!"
"I don't think my grandmother would like you making fun of us, don't you think Will?" Harry knew how to get back at her immediately because Evee stopped sipping from her cup.
"I don't think so either, Harry." William nodded his head, trying to hold back a smile.
"I don't think your grandmother would like you two to make fun of the girl who just threw you a birthdayparty." Evee heard a voice from behind her. She had to swallow the big lump in her throat when she finally realized who was standing next to her. Even Evee had to look down a little to see the small, yet authoritative person.
"Nan! Didn't see you there." Harry immediately spoke. Evee already widening her eyes at him to introduce her. She knew it would be rude to introduce herself. He got the message because Harry immediately put his glass on the table along with Evee's cup. "I want to introduce you to someone. This is my girlfriend, Eveline."
Oh god, Evee thought she was going to burst underneath the woman's gaze. She was looking at her from head to toe until she finally put out her hand. In return, Evee immediately took her hand and curtsied. "Nice to meet you, your majesty."
She couldn't help but spot the smile on the Queen's face. "The pleasure is all mine, Miss Delamane. This is a delightful celebration you've organized for my grandson."
Evee could not believe she was speaking to the god damn Queen of England. "I've had a lot of help from Catherine." She smiled.
"Well, it is a pleasant gesture none the less." The Queen nodded her head at the blonde with a smile and turned towards her grandson. "Now Harry, how's the punch? Is it any good? I haven't had any in ages."
"Do you want me to pour you some?" Harry spoke, holding Evee's eyes for a second or two. He wanted to tell her how good she was doing. He already knew she made a good impression on his grandmother by throwing him a nice birthday party.
"That would be lovely." She nodded her head towards him once again and turned towards Harry's girlfriend. "I would like to introduce my husband but I'm not quite sure where he's at..."
"Probably at the other bar asking for some scotch." William replied amused.
Evee didn't expect the Queen to laugh, "Yes, yes. Give me an instant, I'll be right back."
When Harry came back with the cup of fruit punch and he didn't see his grandmother, he turned towards Evee. "You did good! That was good! I actually think she likes you." He knew he messed around with Eveline in the beginning, wanting to throw her off and tease her a little but in the end, he was glad his grandmother was enjoyable towards his girlfriend. It was important.
"You think so?" The blonde spoke, relief falling off her shoulders.
"I'm sure of it." William agreed with his brother. He remembered Kate meeting with her for the first time and how she almost threw up from nervousness. Evee did better than her, that's for sure. Well, apart from the awkward entrance in the beginning but that wasn't her undoing. It was Harry's.
Ten minutes later and the Queen finally made her way back in the group, her husband attached at the arm. "Found him. Phillipe, this is Harry's girl, Miss Delamane."
"Oh! I've heard many things about you from my son. Indeed, you have remarkable green eyes." The older man with kind eyes spoke to her, a smile widely spread on his appearance.
Evee instantly liked the man in front of her. She took his hand and bowed her head. "It's very nice to meet you, sir."
"Oh and she has manners! Tell me Harry, how did you manage catch this one?" Evee had to hold back laughter when Harry looked a little annoyed at his grandfather.
"Are you already trying to steal her away with your charm, grandfather?"
"My charm and my goodlooks." Philip pointed out, turning his head towards the blonde with raised eyebrows and a smirk on his face. Evee couldn't help but giggle, putting her hand in front of her mouth.
"Now Philip, don't embarrass us." The Queen smiled, accepting the cup of punch from her grandson. It was definitely the first time she saw The Queen with a plastic, red cup in her hands.
"I won't dear, Charles said you were a nurse at St Thomas'?" Prince Philip spoke with interest.
Evee couldn't help but see everyone's eyes turning towards her. God, she felt like she was in the eighth grade again, giving some presentation at the front of the class. "Yes, I am a nurse. I work with children at the oncological department. "
"Yes, that's where I met her." Harry smiled, giving Evee a little wink. She couldn't help but smile back. She did feel quite small standing next to the Queen.
"I heard she wasn't impressed by your antics." Harry's grandfather spoke with a twinkle in his eye.
"That wasn't his fault. He was a complete gentleman from the start." Evee smiled, praying to god they wouldn't think of her as some sort of femme fatal.
"Philip had to do quite a lot to get to me as well. Didn't you, dear?" She heard the Queen speak with a smile on her face.
"Oh certainly but it was worth it, wasn't it?" Evee couldn't help but almost say 'aw' when the elder couple share a smile. She was always a sucker for older couples.
"I for one, think it is good that you didn't throw yourself at his feet. Let's face it Harry, you did need a change." Eveline almost laughed at Harry's expression. He didn't dare to reply to his grandmother. "You're a Belgian, I've heard?"
"Yes, that is correct."
"You speak many languages, I assume?"
Evee nodded her head, "I speak four. Dutch is my native language. I also speak French, German and of course, English." The blonde couldn't help but feel like she was in some sort of interrogation room.
She was relieved when the Queen smiled at her, "I speak French quite well myself. J'ai entendu que Charlotte et George vous aiment voir."
"Le sentiment est mutuel. Ils sont tous deux très chers enfants." Evee noticed Philip nodding his head at her in agreement, Harry and William just looked at them with confused looks on their faces.
"Peut-être que vous pourriez être mes petits-enfants apprennent un peu de français , je ne pense pas qu'ils comprennent cette conversation."
"Je ferai de mon mieux."
"Dear, I think it's best if we start speaking English again, the boys look like they're about to run away." Philip spoke, pointing towards Harry and William.
"Ah well, yes. Where's Charles anyways? I've been wanting to speak to him. Miss, it was a pleasure to meet you. Harry, William, use your manners." She nodded at the both of them and turned around to leave the group.
Evee almost burst out laughing when the Queen and her husband finally left. "Don't you dare do it, Evee." Harry noticed how his girlfriend tried her best to not laugh at the both of them. "You can't use French to win over my grandmother."
"Oh, I think I just did." She couldn't help but laugh, god it felt good to have at least the satisfaction that the conversation went well. She had met the god damn Queen and the woman liked her. At least, she thought the Queen liked her. She was a nice lady, just like Kate told her she would be.
"I'm going to leave you two lovebirds to search for my wife and children." William nodded his head at the couple and turned around.
"You did good." Harry smiled at her, stepping next to Evee to put his arm around her shoulder. "I'm proud of you and your French."
"Thank you." Evee smiled, still beaming.
"Thank you for all of this. It means a lot." His blue eyes twinkled at hers when he felt her head pressing on his shoulder.
"Nothing but the best for the best, like you said on my birthday."
"I can't believe I'm already 32."
"At least you still look like a stud." Evee grinned when she could see his face coming closer to hers.
"Yes, that I do."
"You're so full of yourself." She couldn't help but laugh when he managed to bury his head inside her neck, biting the spot underneath her ear. "Harry! Your father and grandparents are here!"
"I don't care. It's my birthday." She heard him mumble in her neck.
"I think you have pushed that excuse to the maximum today." She laughed when she felt him push her into his chest, his arms tightly wrapped around her waist.
"Did I tell you how proud I am of you?" He whispered in a serious voice, his beard tickling her neck.
"I think you did yes." She nodded her head, holding back a smile. "But tell me again, just to be sure."
"I am so very, very proud of you."
