Chapter Fifty
Evee's birthday had been one of many celebrations. After her weekend with Harry, she came home to receive gifts and birthday cards from everyone, even from Harry's family. Charles and Camilla had sent her a birthdaycard and Kate and Will invited them over for dinner to celebrate. She had an amazing night and couldn't help but beam at their gift, an autographed cd from Ed Sheeran (Harry wasn't happy). When the couple finally made it home, Harry told her he had another present. He gave her a Pride and Prejudice first edition Jane Austen book. He always knew it was one of her favorites. Evee knew how much it cost and nearly gave it back to him. After bickering for 30 minutes, she finally accepted it.
It was on tuesday when Evee opened the door to a mailman that she was surprised. The old man had a bouquet of roses. "Miss Delamane?" The man spoke.
"Yes?" Evee replied in confusion, Harry was laying in her bed and her birthday was yesterday. Everyone she could think of had sent her a gift or a card. Unless... She had actually missed one person.
"These are for you, I was here yesterday but you weren't home." The man with the gentle eyes spoke.
She wasn't home no, she was still in Scotland yesterdaymorning. Evee nodded her head and signed the papers the man gave her. "Thank you." She took the massive bouquet in her hands and closed the door.
Laying them on the table, she noticed a tiny card hanging on one of the flowers. Opening it, she could read, 'A beautiful birthday for an amazing friend. Hope you have a wonderful day. Yours always, F.'
She couldn't help but smile, for a moment she thought he'd forget about it. Last year they had celebrated her birthday with a houseparty and afterwards (even she had to admit) wonderful sex.
Harry read the card when Evee went to the bathroom, a slight tingle of jealousy rised in his chest. It wasn't worth it. He decided to just let it go. If the guy wanted to send her flowers, he could, it wasn't Evee's fault. The 'yours always' comment made him a little scared though, he knew she could leave him in a heartbeat if she wanted to. He prayed to god, she would never do it.
Eveline was desperate for ideas for Harry's birthday. How would she know what to give the guy who already had everything? She knew buying him something expensive was absolute shit. For one, she didn't have the money. For two, she knew he'd appreciate something from the heart a lot more. She had discussed his birthday with Kate and they had decided to throw him a surprise birthdayparty at Nottingham Cottage.
Which seemed to be a lot more difficult than she thought it would be. Eveline was the worst at keeping secrets and when Kate explained to Evee that she had invited his grandparents, she couldn't help but walk around on eggscales. She would meet the queen on his birthday. It was a big step, even the nurse knew that. His whole family would be there.
Planning a surpriseparty with Kate was nothing, the duchess was very organized and appartently when you're part of the royal family, you just have to tell them what you want and they get that for you. She knew things had to be decent (at least until his grandparents and father left the party).
"So the weather's good that day, we'll do something outside then?" Kate spoke excitingly. When she heard Evee's idea for a surprise party, she couldn't help but be enthusiastic. Harry hadn't had a surprise party in a long time. "We'll invite the family in the afternoon and have a party in the evening."
Evee nodded her head, she didn't know how big this party would be. Originally she just had a couple of friends in mind with a keg of beer, but that plan was swiped away by Kate's planning skills. She didn't dare to tell Kate that she wanted to keep it small, the duchess was so excited Evee didn't have to heart. "That sounds good. Do you actually know what else I could buy him?" She had the surprise party yes, but she didn't have a personal gift yet.
Kate took a sip of her wine, they were both sitting on the pattio in Kensington. "Just buy some lingerie. Men are always happy with that." The duchess shrugged like it was nothing.
"That's an amazing idea." It would be a gift for herself and for him. "I hadn't thought of that."
"He'll be happy I'm sure."
"He's not going to be the only one." Evee managed to mumble underneath her breath as she stroked Charlotte's hair on her lap.
Kate laughed, watching how George managed to run behind Lupo on the grass. "Are you nervous for his nan?"
"I am actually. Terrified." The blonde spoke, looking at the skinny brunette that was sitting on the other side of the table.
"I remember the first time I've met her. I was absolutely mortified."
"How did it go?"
"Alright actually, she was very sweet. You shouldn't worry about it, honestly. Just be yourself." Kate gently smiled at Evee. They had become quite close in these past months and she was glad she could call the nurse a good friend now.
"Somehow I don't think that would be a good idea." Evee laughed.
Kate grinned at her, "You were doing alright the first time you met Will and I."
"You guys were very laid back. I think it might be different now. Do I cursty?"
"Technically, you don't have to. You're a Belgian but practically, I think you actually would do good to do so. Even if it's just to say you have well intentions." Kate spoke, nodding her head. "I think she'd appreciate it."
"Yes. I will do that then. How do I do that anyways?" Evee watched as Kate stood up.
"I'll show you. You just lower your head and bend your knees. Then you come back to your original posture." Evee watched as Kate gave an example. She stood up herself, placing Charlotte gently in her stroller.
"Like this then?" Evee managed to gently bow her head and crunch down a little.
"Yes! Exactly, you're a natural! You'll do well."
"I thought it would be more difficult."
"You can't overthink it. It isn't that difficult no. " Kate smiled at the blonde who again tried to bow her head.
"Okay. You play the queen, I'll be myself." Evee laughed, waving her hand at Kate. "You'll need to get used to it anyways."
"God, don't talk about that yet." Kate giggled, sipping her second glass of wine.
"Your majesty." Evee watched as Kate raised her head and put out her hand, the blonde could see how she tried holding back laughter. The blonde took her hand and bowed her head, crunching down just a little.
Evee could hear Kate speak in a low voice, "Miss Delamane, it is a pleasure to finally meet you."
"Does she actually speak like that?" Evee grinned, raising her eyebrow.
"No! I'm just bad at impersionating." Kate giggled.
Evee nodded her head, getting back to her original posture. "The pleasure is all mine."
"So I've heard you are the one that's screwing my grandson." Evee heard Kate speak in a low voice, a giggle somewhere errupting in the middle.
Evee couldn't help but burst out laughing, "Kate! The kids!"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I swear she's a nice lady and I adore her! I just couldn't help myself."
Evee laughed, "Another glass of wine?"
"Absolutely, let me just get the nanny for Charlotte. I quite enjoy our little get togethers." The duchess giggled, stepping inside the palace in search for the nanny.
Meanwhile, Harry and William were upstairs looking down at their partners from the window. "What the hell are they doing?" Harry laughed, looking at his girlfriend and sister in law having a good time.
"I honestly have no idea." William mumbled, standing next to his brother with his arms crossed in front of his chest.
"Is Kate... Is Kate teaching Evee how the curtsy?"
"I think so yes." William knew the exact reason why Eveline actually asked Kate to teach her. She would meet his nan soon, even though his brother had no idea. It was an important step in their relationship.
"Why?"
"I don't know how the female mind works, how would I know?" Will shrugged, turning his head away. He didn't like keeping secrets from his brother.
"That's true. You don't know how the female mind works at all." Harry snickered.
"Atleast I have a ring on my finger." William mumbled, laughing at his brother.
"Took you long enough. Anyways, I'm glad they're getting along so well."
"Yes. It's important." Harry nodded his head, shifting his eyes once again to see his girlfriend crunching in front of Charlotte's stroller. She was talking to the little girl. It was very important, indeed.
