Chapter Eighty Six

The black range rover pulled over at Clarence House. It hadn't been that long since Harry had been there. He tried to make the best of his time when Evee wasn't home. He wasn't that profound of doing things behind her back but if he wanted to give her this surprise, it would have to do.

At least he wasn't as bad as she was on his birthday.

He had to laugh again. It had been an amazing romantic night, she had cooked dinner for him, they had danced Frank Sinatra to in the moonlight and afterwards she had thrown on her most romantic lingerie. Which, unfortunately, after both having 3 bottles of wine, didn't go as subtly as possible. In fact, she had stumbled over the carpet, fell down on the floor, hitting her head on the expensive coffee table (that he knew Bennett was so fond of but she would never tell him).

Least to say, the night didn't end up the way he expected... Well, a day with her never ends up the way he expects it. That's what made it so much fun.

Harry didn't really care that she had spent the evening in lingerie, in his lap with a frozen beef on her head. She made it up to him to him in Toronto, at the Invictus Games. Evee was absolutely perfect, every athlete was smitten by her. She really stole his limelight in his own creation but he didn't mind for a second. A smile formed on his face, Harry opened the car door and his feet made their way towards his father's house.

He knew this place like the back of his hand, he spent most of his teenage years here. It was sometimes odd stepping back into this place, remembering all the things happening here and how much things had changed.

Finally finding his father's study, he gently knocked on the door. When he heard a muffled 'come in', he opened the heavy, wooden door. A grin immediately overtook the Prince of Wales his face when he saw his son enter the room. "Ah, Harry, I've been expecting you!"

"Hi dad." The prince grinned, walking closer towards the bureau his father was seated behind. He immediately pulled him into a hug and kissed his cheek.

"How are you? Everything alright with Eveline?" Charles questioned, a little hesitant about why his son would come ever. "Let us move towards the living room."

Harry watched how Charles stood up and briefly patted his shoulder. "Evee's fine, she has a meeting for Heartchild now."

"She's been working hard, hasn't she?" Charles implied, a grin holding back on his face.

"Honestly, I don't know where she gets her energy." Harry spoke, strolling next to his father through the corridors.

"Well, it means that she motivated, that's very good. Four months away until the wedding. It's coming closer, isn't it?" The Prince Of Wales teased, he was good at estimating his son and he knew very well how nervous Harry would be on his wedding day. He already felt bad for him.

"Yes, just a little over four months. Things have been going extremely well, I'm wondering where the bump in the road will come across. I'm expecting at least something."

"Maybe you should just accept that you finally have something that goes extremely well." Charles replied, sitting down on one of the sofas. "The past hasn't always been too kind on you. Some things you have brought up on yourself of course, but still, it's nice that things are going the way they are."

Harry tried not to roll his eyes at his father's lecture and took the seat right across from him. He watched how the butler brought tea and biscuits. "It still surprises me how much the public is craving for this wedding."

"Aren't you longing for it?" Charles asked, his eyebrows raised as he took a sip from his tea in the meantime. "Biscuit?"

"No thank you." Harry replied, blowing into his tea, trying to cool it off. "Of course I'm longing for it. I'm marrying the woman of my dreams. I just thought well-, I thought it wouldn't bring such an ordeal. Have you even seen the guest list?"

"You're still my son. A prince. Eveline might make you feel like a normal, lovesick man, but you need to remember that you're part of this family. You will never not be." Harry stared into his father's eyes. "And she, she will be a Duchess. She will need to remember that as well."

Harry nodded his head, "She does. She knows that. She's trying her ultimate best to be a good influence."

"I am certain she is. The public always liked her but you cannot deny that the woman will never be the best actress in the book. I love my future daughter in law to bits but she is not a second Catherine Middleton."

"What do you mean by that?" Harry spoke, trying not to raise his voice at his father. He had all the information to defend Evee. She had done nothing but good for this family. She brought a new light to the palace. For one, Harry thought they should have kissed both his hands by now because he was marrying someone like her.

"Now now, don't attack too quickly. I didn't mean any harm by that. I'm just saying you should be careful. You're still my son, I have every reason to be protective of you."

"Is this about getting married too quickly again?" Harry shot back.

"No, I think you have both prove everybody wrong in that aspect." Charles nodded his head. "Marriage won't always feel like this you know. You're both still very much in love but there comes a time when you'll fight as well. She'll say you'll be gone too long, you won't like the way she raises the children, she won't like the way you dress. It's always something. There will be something."

"Fathe-"

"No. I know you love Eveline very, very much Harry. And I am very, very certain she loves you to death. I do want this marriage, because it's build out of love and it makes you happy. But not as a father this time but as the Prince of Wales, I need you to be careful as well. You don't want what happened to your old man." Charles tried to joke, but Harry could see the realness in his eyes. "I have made many mistakes and dragging your mother into them was one of the biggest ones."

"I will not make the same mistakes as you and mother did." Harry spoke hastily.

"I know you won't." Charles smiled. "But she's a lot like your mother, in the years after we separated that is. Evee is very honest and when there's trouble in the marriage, I am concerned on the way she would handle it."

"We will speak of it. If you wanted me to be with someone who's an actress, I don't see why you didn't like Cressida then." Harry stated, remembering the way his father acted around his ex-girlfriend.

"Oh god no. She was very friendly but nothing for you, Harry. Her ambitions were too high. She would have never gotten used to this life. You need someone who sees you as number one. Someone who cares for their career but thinks of you as their world. Eveline does that for you." The Prince Of Wales stated, hoping Harry wouldn't think that he spoke bad of Eveline. Charles genuinely cared for the girl. He couldn't wait for the wedding and for her to scold his son if she were to bear his child. A hint of amusement took over his face.

"Why do you have that twinkle in your eye? I know that twinkle." Harry spoke, squinting his eyes.

"I was just thinking how much you'll suffer if she were to get pregnant in the future. I wish I could say that it wouldn't bring me any amusement."

"I'm sure we'll be fine. Evee has never been too aggressive."

"Harry, you have never lived with a pregnant woman for nine months before. I will tell you right now, you will suffer just a little bit but it is really worth it in the end." Charles smiled, "What is it that you wanted to see me for, anyways?"

"Well, now that we're on the subject of chi-" Charles his eyes widened in horror. "No! No! No dad! She's not with child. Calm down. I'm not an idiot."

"I honestly think your grandmother would have a heart attack." Charles stated, taking a biscuit to steady his beaten heart.

"She's not. Not that I know of. We're very careful. I wanted to speak to you about houses."

"Houses?" His father questioned in confusion.

"With all the publicity Evee and I are getting I am worried that if we were to have children, we wouldn't have much privacy. I honestly just want to be able to raise them as freely as possible. I want Evee and I to have a place where we can be a family more than anything, away from Kensington Palace, away from London. I would actually buy something myself but I thought I would speak to you first about this, since you know best." Harry explained himself, looking at his father.

Harry watched how Charles nodded his head gently, "I have been thinking about this as well. Since William and Catherine have Ammer Hall. You would have to speak to your grandmother about this issue. I am honestly not aware of her plans in that matter."

Harry nodded his head, "Do you know any houses that she would think of, eventually?"

"I honestly think she might be eager to give Frogmore Cottage to you." Charles knew the property wasn't really used, just for private parties. The last time it was properly used was as a venue for Peter and Autumn's wedding and that was in 2008, nearly ten years ago.

Harry couldn't help but be surprised. He thought Frogmore Cottage was perfect, safe and secluded. It was close to Windsor castle and the estate was very beautiful. It was a perfect hour drive away from London and merely a seven minute drive to St George's chapel, where he was christened himself. He could imagine the family coming back to their home to celebrate if they were to have children.

"I thought grandfather always said he would live there if grandmother would pass before him." Harry spoke carefully.

"He might still do, I think he'd love to live together with Eveline." Charles laughed, throwing his head back.

"I can imagine their puns already." Harry cringed, knowing that his fiancé and his grandfather shared a special bond. He would always cheekily speak to her, complimenting on every occasion and she would return the gesture with a playful, respectful look. He loved his grandfather but he would not survive him living together with Evee, him and in the future, their kids.

"No seriously Harry, I'm certain your grandfather wouldn't mind you to have a more quiet life there... I will speak to your grandmother as soon as possible. I shall let you know if I know more." Charles informed his son. His serious expression turned into an amusing one, once again.

"What?" Harry questioned, a held back smile on his face.

"I would love to be a fly on the wall if my father and Eveline were to live together with you." The Prince Of Wales spoke, cheekily.

"Please don't tell her that idea, her nursing heart would actually consider it."

"I won't tell her, but I can't promise if something were to happen with your grandmother, my father wouldn't use his one-liners to knock on her door." Charles grinned.

"Let us sincerely hope grandmother's health will stay in order for a very long, long time." Harry spoke, a serious edge coming through.

"Of course. I wouldn't wish anything else." Charles replied, not wanting any harm to his mother. "But my father using his charm on Eveline to live with you both on the estate would just be a very funny image. Can you imagine coming home and seeing them both in the hot tub?"

"Father, please." Harry groaned, that was an imagine he wouldn't be able to scratch off his mind for quite a while.

Long live The Queen indeed.
