Chapter 3

  Steve's  POV:
I finished work early today and went out for coffee. I hoped to catch a glance of the young woman from earlier. It seemed she was nowhere in sight.

I ordered a cappuccino as usual.

"Will that be with ice or no ice, sir?"

 "No ice, please."

"Very well, sir, it shall be ready shortly."

I read the newspaper as I waited.  I frowned nothing, but bad news as always.  Only the funny section was worth the effort.  I completed the crossword puzzle before the drink was ready.

I sipped on the beverage slowly so as not to burn my tongue. I heard some laughter nearby.

I looked up to see the lady from this morning. Strange,  she appeared as I thought about her.  How very peculiar, indeed!

"Miss, a good afternoon it is, now,"  I said as I tipped my hat to her.

"Sir, it might be one yet, if the rain holds up."

I nodded my head in agreement. My mother had taught me not to argue with a woman.

"By the way, I do not think we were properly acquainted earlier."

"The name is Janet, and you are?"

"Steve, it is nice to have finely met you, Janet."

I stood there stunned as she curtsied.

"Steve, I  must be going to see my friends waiting for me over there."

I looked in the direction she pointed and saw a group of ladies chatting in the corner. I paid no attention to their conversation as that would have been rude. I  considered myself a proper gentleman.

I made sure to leave a generous tip when I paid for the coffee, then headed outside.

It was cloudy out but a far cry from this morning's weather.  I hoped it would not rain again anytime soon. I did not say as much out loud so as not to dare the clouds to open up and produce more of the wet stuff unannounced.

I headed home glad to have some relief at last.  For now, I knew her name at least which was better than before yes, I could handle a Janet better than a Suzie, a Lou, or a Sally. Women with those names were rather silly, immature, and insecure souls indeed.

          Until then, bye-bye, little owlets!

         Summer out!
