EVER SINCE THIS SAY HAD STARTED, LEE EUN-CHAE HAD FELT VERY OVERWHELMED. She wasn't exactly sure why, but a heavy weight filled her chest and it still hadn't gone away. The whole day at work had been never ending, feeling like it would last forever as it dragged on. So, as she walked home, her steps were fast paced, rushing to get into comfortable clothing. The cool wind pulled her hair in different directions, hands clutching tighter around the jacket she had on. Of course, it was cold and brutal on a day she felt miserable.
The bridge that was needed to cross started to come up and as she got closer, a silhouette of a person stood on the ledge. With widened eyes, Eun-Chae panicked and runs towards them, hoping she'd make it there in time. It felt like slow motion as she grabbed the person's hand, pulling them backward, not even thinking as their body landed on top of her's.
Eun-Chae's head pounded slightly from where it landed, thankfully not broken or sliced open. Slowly letting her eyes unfold, she blinks and is suddenly looking into a pair of eyes she had grown to love in the past. He was breathing hard, staring down at her as if she'd just given him the stars.
She snaps, pushing him off and quickly standing up. "Su-Bung! Are you absolutely insane?" Her voice was angry, trying to comprehend why he had been doing what he was caught for. "Why would you possibly try that?"
He wouldn't even look in her direction, "Because I lost everything, Eun-Chae. My job, my freaking money. You." This time, his eyes met her's. "Losing you was the worst thing that has ever happened to me and I regret letting you walk out that night."
Eun-Chae didn't know what to say back, analyzing him. His hair had been dyed purple again like it was when he first started his rapping career. He looked exhausted and beaten down, completely over life and anything it had to offer.
"I'm sorry. I really am. But, you know why we broke up." She replied, trying not to go up to him and squeeze him in her arms like a baby.
Before another word could be said, a man in a suit is standing right behind Su-Bung clearing his throat. They turned, immediately noticing his briefcase clutched in his large palm. He had a large smirk on his face, something sinister swimming in his orbs.
"Would you like to play a game with me?"
Eun-Chae clutched her ex boyfriend's hand on instinct, not liking the way this man eyed them down.
Su-Bung took note of the love of his life as she grabbed ahold of him in fear. But, having nothing else to lose, he agreed to play with the stranger.
They went back and forth in the game, Su-Bung getting slapped everytime he failed. Eun-Chae just stayed back, analyzing every move made. She'd just saved her ex, she didn't want him dying by some weird man.
It finally ended with him handing Su-Bung a card, claiming there was a much better way to earn money than this. Su-Bung had been contemplating, but he ultimately decided to give it a try.
Eun-Chae shook her head, wanting to choke both of them. "Yah! If you take him, take me with you too!" The man glanced her way at those words. "I'll go as well."
"No. No, no, no. Don't take her with us. She'll just cause problems." Su-Bung tried to get the attention off his love. "Just me."
The salesman looked to be contemplating them both. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the same card, giving it to Eun-Chae. "We could always involve more people. You two have a nice night."
Once he left, Su-Bung was all over Eun-Chae, questioning why she would do this. And she only replied with:
"Because I almost lost you tonight. I won't have you going on adventures when you're suicidal, just for you to gamble your life away." She slipped the paper into her jacket pocket. "I'm going. That's final."
NOTE : did anyone catch the true beauty reference? i'm so excited to write these two! i hope you all enjoy this journey!
