Chapter Twenty-Nine (N.S.)

Chapter Twenty-Nine

How could something so fair

Be so cruel

When this black sun revolved

Around you

"So... you owe me a new pair of shoes." I said casually after breakfast, standing at the sink as I rinsed off the dirty dishes. Harry let out a dramatic sigh, walking over to the sink before wrapping his arms around my waist.

"I already said I was sorry." He mumbled into my shoulder.

"Doesn't change the fact that I need shoes." I said.

"Okay. I'll head to the mall and get you some shoes."

"Take A.J. and Jemma with you?" I asked, turning around so I was facing him. Harry had his hands on my waist at that point, his thumbs rubbing soothing circles into my hips.

"Why?" He looked at me confused.

"Figured you could bond with them? You can leave them here, but I know A.J. has been dying to leave the house... and we both know Jemma hates it when A.J. doesn't include her." I said, shrugging.

"Okay... Are you sure you can handle Audrey and Jonah?" Harry asked, a concerned look now covering his face. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at him and instead I kissed his cheek.

"I'll be fine. I've taken care of all four by myself before."

"Okay... You promise that you'll call if there's any problems?"

"Since when did you become such a worry wart?" I folded my arms over my chest, arching my eyebrows as Harry continued to look concerned.

It made me nervous.

"I just don't want anything bad to happen. I'm sorry for being cautious." Harry snorted and I couldn't resist the urge to roll my eyes this time.

"You're cute, but you're being stupid. I can handle Jonah and Audrey just fine."

"I know you can.... I'm sorry." He grabbed my hand, intertwining his fingers with mine before kissing my cheek.

"It's okay." I smiled, hugging him before letting go.

"I guess I'll get going then." Harry sighed, running a hand through his hair as I smiled fondly.

"Good luck."

"I'm probably going to need it. I hate the mall." He groaned the last part out before walking out of the kitchen.

"Sorry babe." I called after him, but I didn't get a response. I shook my head fondly before going back to the dishes.

"Mummy. Want juice." Jonah said quietly, snuggling closely to me as I kissed the top of his head.

"Okay Jo... I'll get you some juice. What about you Audrey?" The two year old girl looked up from her blocks, her blue-green eyes filled with curiosity.

"Do you want juice?" I asked, standing up from the couch. Jonah let out a whine, obviously not liking the fact I had moved.

"Juice!" She said excitedly, nodding as she smiled. I smiled at the both of them before walking into the kitchen, grabbing to juice boxes. It was then that the phone rang, echoing through the empty house.

I frowned when I saw it was the hospital.

"Hello?" I answered it with my free hand, walking into the living room before handing Audrey her juice box. I fumbled with the other one before handing it to Jonah.

"Is this Niall Styles?" A female voice asked on the other end, her voice monotoned.

"Yes?"

"This is Doctor Caplow's assistant calling. I'm just calling to let you know that your blood tests came back and that we have reason to believe that you have Lymphoma." My breath caught in my throat, a million different things running through my head. I wasn't quite sure what Lymphoma was... but it didn't sound good.

"I'm sorry what?"

"We have reason to believe you have Lymphoma, it's a rare cancer of the blood, but if caught early can be easily cured. Doctor Caplow wants you to come in tomorrow for further tests." The receptionist sounded bored, her bedside manner making me sick to my stomach.

I couldn't breathe.

"O-Okay..." I finally managed to get out. The rest of what she said seemed to be white noise, the only thing I caught was the time of my appointment.

She hung up without even saying goodbye.

"Mummy. I sleepy." Jonah said, his voice taking me out of my daze. I blinked back tears before nodding.

But then I remembered he couldn't see me.

"Y-Yeah... Want to take a nap Jo?" I whispered, not even waiting for an answer before picking him up. I carried him up to his room, trying my hardest not to burst into a tears.

I felt numb.

I didn't even notice that Audrey followed us until she grabbed my pants. I looked at her, blinking back tears as I did so. After I placed Jonah down in his bed, I picked her up and carried her to my own room. She made no sound of protest as I climbed into the bed, her little hands clutching to my shirt as I did so.

It took her a while to fall asleep, but when she did...

That was when it really hit me.

I had cancer.

---------------------------------

Now just because Niall has cancer, don't assume I'm gonna kill him.

You guys always jump to the worse case scenario I swear to god....

I love you though.

Just like you should trust me.
