Chapter Four

Chapter Four

We're young hearts

Look at us go

All we really need is a stereo

"Mr. Styles? Mrs. Gayn will see you now." The receptionist said, sticking her head out of the office door.

"Cmon squirt..." I whispered, patting his knee before standing up. A.J. didn't say anything, not that I was expecting him to. He hadn't said a word to me since I asked him what happened. He looked up at me though, new tears forming in his eye as he bit his lip.

He looked absolutely terrified.

"It's going to be alright A.J." I said, but I wasn't really sure if I was lying or not.

I didn't have to whole story.

I didn't know why he looked like he'd just been in a cage fight.

I didn't know why I was here really besides the fact my son had allegedly started a fight.

Which in my opinion was absolute bullshit.

A.J. wasn't violent. None of my family was violent.

We choose words over our fists.

And that's how I know that this isn't A.J.'s fault.

We walked into Mrs. Gayn's office together, A.J. refused to look at her before sitting down in front of her. The second I saw Mrs. Gayn I established that the two of us would not be getting along.

She hadn't even looked at me yet and I could see the judgment and disappointment oozing off her.

She was an older woman, probably closer to my mum's age than mine. Her hair was up in a tight bun, her roots gray. She had a pair of glasses perched on the bridge of her nose, the frames a little too small for her fact in my opinion. When she finally did look at me, I took note of the wrinkles that looked to be at least an inch deep.

She was not attractive whatsoever.

Makes me wonder if there is a Mr. Gayn...

"Thank you for coming Mr. Styles." She said, her voice making me cringe. It was so dead panned, no joy or happiness whatsoever.

"Now let's get down to business. As I told you previously your son Alexander was involved in a fight with another class mate, and I'm sure as you know we don't tolerate fighting at this school." Mrs. Gayn looked down at me, her eyebrows arching as I looked at A.J. for a second.

"Mrs. Gayn... I can assure you that Alexander didn't start the fight, my son isn't violent. He doesn't just throw punches because he feels like it." I said, not liking the fact that she was looking at me like I was some idiot.

I'm not an idiot.

"I'm sure that's the case at home Mr. Styles, but this isn't the first time that Alexander has been to my office for fighting. If I remember correctly this is actually the third time, we only contacted you this time due to the severity of this one..." The room grew uncomfortably silent, the sound of the clock ticking really the only sound. I looked at A.J. in complete disbelief.

"Is this true?" I asked him. A.J. looked at me sadly before nodding.

"Dammit Alexander..." I whispered, pinching the bridge of my nose as I tried to wrap my head around it.

"As you can see this is becoming a problem Mr. Styles. Now as much as I hate to do this, I'm afraid that Alexander is suspended for the rest of the week." Mrs. Gayn said, but the not so sorry look on her face proved to me that she honestly didn't give a shit.

What a bitch.

"And what about the other kid? Obviously A.J. wasn't the only one to throw punches here." I said, still kinda pissed at A.J. for not telling me about the other fights.

But that didn't mean I was going to tolerate someone hurting my son.

"They've been let off with a warning."

"That's it? You're kidding me right?" I arched my eyebrow at her, trying my hardest not to get angry.

It wasn't easy.

"That's our policy Mr. Styles. This is their first warning."

"Of course it is, but are you seriously going to over look the fact that my son was physically injured?"

"I'm sorry Mr. Styles, but that's our policy. Your son started the fight and that's that. Now I have another meeting scheduled and I'm already late as it is. I'm sorry for the inconvenience Mr. Styles, but that's all we can do at this point." Mrs. Gayn stuck her hand out for me to shake, but I disregarded it. I grabbed A.J.'s hand before dragging him out of the office.

If I didn't walk away now I was going to slap that bitch so hard she wouldn't even know it happened.

"It wasn't my fault Daddy. They weren't my fault." A.J.'s voice was quiet, barely above a whisper once we reached the car. He looked at me with sad blue eyes, his bottom lip between his teeth. I knelt down so we were eye to eye, hoping that would help the truth come out a little easier.

"What happened A.J.?" I asked, even though I was pretty convinced he wasn't going to give me an answer.

"I can't tell you. They'll get mad."

"A.J."

"Please don't make me tell you Daddy..." He looked away from me at that point, his eyes casted down at his shoes as we stood there in the parking lot. I didn't know what to do, part of me wanted to drop to my knees and beg him to tell me... but the other part knew that if I pressured him into telling me things will get worse.

He would only get angry.

He got that from Niall.

So instead I gave a heavy sigh, ruffling his hair and kissing his forehead.

"I love you little bean... and I just want to help."

"I know Daddy... i love you too."
